1. Descarado – Last years Caulfield Cup winner, returned with a very good run a fortnight ago at Warwick Farm which showed he had recovered from his Melbourne Cup run. Ran wide at the Farm but still managed to battle on to run a very respectful 6th. Extra distance suits but would have liked more rain. Good each way claims.
2. Maluckyday – Hailed by many as this years Melbourne Cup winner, resumed in the Chipping Norton (along with Descarado) and ran on very well into fourth place. Will be suited by the extra distance tomorrow and handles the firmer ground well. Looks to be the one to beat.
3. Zavite – Out of form and doesnt look like he will figure in this race. Pass
4. Illustrious Blue – Another runner out of the Chipping Norton Stakes and will improve with the extra distance, looks to be going well this preparation but i think he will need a few more runs before we see him at his best. Will be using this to build some fitness with the Sydney cup being his aim. Place chance at best.
5. Hawk Island – A very honest galloper who won well last start at Rosehill, has some claims but this field looks too classy. Happy to leave out of my selections.
6. Sacred Choice – Finished closest to Danleigh in the Chipping Norton Stakes and hit the line well showing he will be suited by the extra distance, has race fitness on his side and should figure in the finish at decent each way odds.
7. Keep The Peace – The unkown runner of the race, coming off a very good run in NZ and has winning form around the distance. Hard to match her up in the race but should be respected and kept safe as bookmakers have done. Each way claims.
Selections: Sacred Choice, Maluckyday, Descarado, Illustrious Blue
