The field for the 2010 Stradbroke Handicap was released on Wednesday and was followed by the official barrier draw, it looks to be a cracker of a field. We take a look at who we feel will be the winning contenders.
The 18 horse race looks to be a very quality field of runners with some of the best horses in the country taking part in the $1 million dollar race.
We have selected our favourite 5 runners and tried to analyse their tactics for the race, read below for our tips on the race.
Whobegotyou: Has opened up as the short priced favourite which looks to be a very open fields, currently the best price available is $3 which we think is way too short for a race of this calibre.
Drawn barrier 9 we suspect Whobegotyou will drop back into the field most likely sitting about 12th-14th and should get a rail position, the wide Eagle Farm track is a bonus and should allow for him to come around the field on the turn. He looks to be the class runner and his run in the Doomben 10,000 was very good.
We agree he should be the favourite for the race although we wont be taking the odds of $3 in a 18 horse field with each runner having their claims.
Black Piranha: Opened in betting at $14 and has remained steady, the barrier draw didnt do him any favours but hopefully it wont disadvantage him too much. We suspect he will sit mid field and try and get some cover, Nash Rawiller has been in great form recently so having a very expereinced and inform jockey will help.
Had a massive run in the Doomben 10,000 behind Hot Danish and Whobegotyou and we think the $14 on offer is quite good, we feel he should have gone closer if he was not held up at the 250m. One to watch at good each way odds.
Ortensia: Went into the Doomben 10,000 as the early market favourite but dissapointed punters by finishing 8th, has drawn another outside barrier but again shouldn’t be too much of an issue as she will settle at the back of the field. The extra 50 meters should suit and if the race is run quickly she should be charging home late.
Currently at $12 we feel she is another great each way chance and as mentioned if the speed is on she will be right in the finish.
Swift Alliance: Drops 4KG from its previous run in the Group 1 Galaxy at Randwick behind Ortensia and should be on the speed tomorrow. Has been racing well and at $26 is worth an each way bet.
Ghetto Blaster: Was tipped as our roughie for the Doomben 10,000 although didnt seem to like the going and was posted wide for a majority of the race. We have stuck with him again as he has drawn the inside barrier and will be given a nice sit behind the leaders.
He is currently at $41 and we think he is the best roughie of the race and should get all the favours.
Melito: Another one to come out of the Doomben 10,000 in which we thought she was very unlucky not to have gone closer, has drawn a good barrier (4) and C Brown will be riding with 3.5kg less weight. Should be able to sit just off the leaders and with a bit of luck should be right in the finish.
Currently at $6 and we think she is the best of the favourites at her current price.
Latin News: Wasnt accepted in the starting field but is the first emergencie, coming out of a listed race behind Girl Hussler in which he was a certainty beat. If he gets a run in the race he will be very competitive and with 50kg on his back should be right in the finish. Should be able to settle just off the speed and have the last crack at the leaders.
Not sure if he is up to this class as its a huge jump up although has shown plenty of ability in his 8 starts and had a very good run in the Doomben 10,000.
Currently at $8.50 but would be shorter if he was listed in the 18.
Overview: Looks to be a very open race with each of the 18 runners having enough claims to win the race, depending how the track plays will determine whether we will be taken the likes of Whobegotyou and Ortensia or sticking with horses on the speed.
