Race 1. (13:39) Morley Growers Market Handicap 1000m
I’ll take a chance on 1 Tycoon Harry (Bet Now: $SP.00) to resume a winner despite likely having bigger fish to fry. Very nice three year old that resumes for Jim Taylor, having not raced since March 9 at Bunbury when a strong winner from off the speed, getting clear late and finished best. Recent trial was very good, will press forward and is a proven weight carrier.
3 Seeyouatthesession (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Sessions that resumes for Simon Miller. He is first up, having not raced since March 9 at Bunbury in the race mentioned above. He had a suck run out the back and made up headway without threatening. Looked very sharp in a Lark Hill trial win so keen to see how he goes.
5 Cheeky Charlotte (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a nice filly resuming. Luke Fernie trained filly that had a three run Autumn prep to start her career, winning on debut before placing next time and then a down the track effort, spelled soon after. Just one quiet 400m trial here for her return so I’d watch the market and see what it does.
Race 2. (14:14) Peters Investments Plate 1200m
2 Supido Express (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top for me. Luke Fernie trained juvenile that has been quite good in two career outings, winning on debut over this track/distance before going to the same set up three weeks ago when on speed and fought hard but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Noahquintility. Good racing style, has Pike aboard and strikes a winnable race.
6 Horcrux (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Rommel for Simon Miller that is on debut. Just a quiet trial here in the Autumn before a spell. He has come back and he went like a jet at Lark Hill over 950m, winning by a space and running decent enough time. Tricky draw to overcome but he does look above average.
9 Areduet (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win but has been plagued by bad gates, which is what she gets again here. Her last three runs have come over 1000m when getting back off the speed and has been finding the line with purpose, the latest run being two weeks back. Eats up 1200m for mine and with luck from the gate, she’ll look the winner at some stage.
Race 3. (14:53) Tabtouch Handicap (0MWLY) 1400m
8 Lova Session (Bet Now: $SP.00) is finding it hard to win but that said, he is always around the mark and surely a win is near for him. He ran over 1800m at Pinjarra just over two weeks ago when back off the speed and kept chasing in a really good effort behind Expelliarmus, finishing third. Like him back to 1400m, maps perfect…surely his time is now.
5 Probity (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. He resumed a fortnight back over 1200m here where he was back off the speed and kept chasing but really like the way he found the line late in the piece behind The Great Hoya. Might want one more and a further rise in trip, but off the return, he rates highly.
10 Fearless Talk (Bet Now: $SP.00) is around three weeks between runs for David Philip since racing at Bunbury when on speed throughout over 1400m and gave a decent sight but just couldn’t quite see it through when a narrow second to Coatachino. Looks to land on speed and will give cheek I am sure.
Race 4. (15:33) Free Entry To Belmont Handicap (66+) 2200m
3 Kisses From Kelly (Bet Now: $SP.00) seems a straight bat play for me. Holly Taylor trained gelding that has been quite good this time in, establishing himself as a metro class horse, his latest run being two weeks ago when off the speed and drove hard late when second to Antique Miss. Good record at the track and only has to hold his form to be around the mark.
1 Antique Miss (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one with upside/timing and she is absolutely humming for Michael Grantham. She won the race mentioned above from a fortnight back, giving them a start and a beating in an electric finale, letting down like a nice horse to win and win well. Heading in the right direction, she’ll take beating.
8 God’s Garden (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing well without winning for Susan Olive and should be thereabouts. She is three weeks between runs since running a narrow second to Kisses From Kelly. She kept finding the line and at times, looked the winner, but couldn’t quite see it through. Not sure she wins but a must for exotics.
Race 5. (16:09) Drummond Golf Handicap (1MW) 1300m
Landed with 1 Bird’s The Word (Bet Now: $SP.00). Team Pearce trained gelding that ran last Saturday over 1200m here, driving hard late from off the speed but just missed out on the win when a narrow second to Boots Like Bruce. He was 1400m to 1200m there so back up to 1300m, back in overall depth, he’ll do me here.
5 Tenacious Reward (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Demerit that resumes for the Paul Roberts camp. This guy is first up, having not raced since May 18 over the mile here when giving them a start and a beating, launching late to finish best and win well. He is a horse who can sprint well on the fresh side and his trial win was quite sharp.
2 Outfield (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Steven Burton trained gelding that is flying this time in and deserves another crack at metro level. Close up in defeat over 1400m here two back and before/after that have been sharp wins at the Provincials, the latest run being a dominant all the way win at Pinjarra. He’ll give himself every chance with his racing style.
Race 6. (16:44) Schweppes Handicap (1MW) 1600m
2 Westriver Miracle (Bet Now: $SP.00) drops a fair way in grade/depth here and I think if he’s ever going to find positive form again, he has found a very winnable race. He ran over this track/distance three weeks ago where he got back in the run and failed to make up any real headway late in the piece behind Playhouse Patron. Back to this level, Chris Parnham aboard, I want to take a chance with him.
1 Emerald Trader (Bet Now: $SP.00) is bursting to win a race this time in for Lynette Watson. He has placed in all three runs this time in, the latest being at this track/distance five weeks ago when back in the run and closed off with purpose late in the piece when a narrow second to Antique Miss. Does tend to race well on the fresh and is hard to beat if he can settle closer.
8 Buckeye Bullet (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider exotics. He ran over this track/distance last Wednesday when doing work early to land on speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite sustain the run when third to Gratias Dio. Hard fit now and I think with a more patient steer, he’s dangerous for sure.
Race 7. (17:18) Belmont Classic 2200m
6 Petrouchka (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to pick herself. Team Williams trained filly that comes through the Belmont Oaks from two weeks ago where she gave them a start and a beating, letting down with purpose late to win and win well. The overall time was better than the boys on the same day and with good upside/improvement, Pike sticks…the one to beat.
2 Manzor Magic (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one with good upside. He comes through the Aquanita from a fortnight back where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never threatening, he made up headway and was quite good in defeat behind Cool Memory. He can settle much closer in the run and will be strong late
5 Ocean Ranger (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like he will eat up 2200m. Anne King trained three year old that comes here off the back of a maiden win over 1800m at Pinjarra where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late to finish best in a sharp display. Harder assignment here, but does bring with him some upside and different form.
Race 8. (17:56) Happy 80th Derek Hulbert Handicap (66+) 1000m
6 Ginnivan (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a short course specialist and looks really well suited here I feel. He is two weeks between runs since on speed at this track/distance and he tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite sustain the run when a narrow second to Final Siren. He saves his best for the track/distance, good racing style, hard to beat.
1 Lexington City (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous if they ride him with a sit. For some reason, they hunted to lead when resuming in the race mentioned above. He tried hard but given he was fresh and doing the work leading, he tired late when fourth to Final Siren. With a more patient steer, I think he can run a much improved race.
7 Paddy’s Flyin (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a David Harrison trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since March 2 at Ascot when having his second run for the prep and was terrible behind Golden Fighter. Resumes without a trial but maps kind and gets P Harvey fresh, so watch the market.
Race 9. (18:31) Budget Car Truck & Rental Handicap (72+) 1200m
8 Upper Limits (Bet Now: $SP.00) is better suited over a bit further but he is a good horse for Jeremy Easthope and I think he can resume with a win despite the tricky gate. He is first up, having not raced since Jan 20 at Ascot when just off the speed before being presented wider and he loomed to win but couldn’t quite finish the job behind Cheval De Vega. He does tend to save his best for Belmont and his trial work has been quite good.
7 Ice Pick Nick (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hard to beat for Stefan Vahala. He hasn’t raced since June 1 over this track/distance when on speed throughout and gave a very strong kick but just wasn’t able to see it through when a narrow second to Rope Them In. Good racing style, he’ll be strong late and this isn’t a deep race.
1 Catalpa (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Jeremy Easthope trained gelding that resumes after formerly being with Team Williams. He is a proper Saturday class horse and while 1200m is on the short side for him, he does have class and has trialled up okay in readiness, with three of them under the belt. Watch the market.
