The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide metro racing takes place this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out six metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out three metres for the remainder.

Back Me

I think firmer footing will suit the Gordon Richards trained 4 Roselli Sting (Bet Now: $6.00), who ran on a bog surface at Gawler (Metro) last Saturday where he really struggled in the conditions and I think just put a line through the run behind Charossa. Has a good record on the Parks and a dry-ish deck will be right up his alley, so for mine, he’s a knockout chance in a very winnable race.

Danger

I like 2 Going Gaga (Bet Now: $2.50) back to 1400m. This Michael Hickmott trained gelding ran over the mile on the course proper two weeks back where he was a bit disappointing behind Balcazar, but I’m not sure 1600m is his trip, so like him back to 1400m and these days, he does tend to save his best for the Parks track, so he can bounce back here for sure.

Long Shot

3 Kirona (Bet Now: $21.00) is a talented mare for Ryan Balfour that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since June 16 last year when down the track behind Casino Club, so has had over a year off, but her recent Murray Bridge trial last week wasn’t too bad and she does have a touch of class when right. Not expecting her to win, but how often do we see these stayers run a cheeky race fresh.

Race 2. (13:11) Oaklands Plate 1400m

Have to be with the Tony McEvoy trained 3 Westport (Bet Now: $1.80). This filly is 2/2 this time in. Got the job done first up at Balaklava before racing here last Wednesday where she was three and four wide no cover for the trip and being a 2YO against her older horses, she was entitled to drop away, but she finished best and scored a massive win. If she’s taken no harm from that, she’s the one to beat.

Danger

1 Iscariot (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Will Clarken trained youngster who has had two career outings. Won well enough on debut at Gawler before racing on the course proper here two weeks ago where he had the suck run behind the speed and for the most part, I thought he had his chance. Looks to be a bit more depth this time around but have to respect the stable and anything they are saddling up at the moment.

Long Shot

I think 1400m will suit the Phillip Stokes trained 5 Indiscretion (Bet Now: $6.00). This filly has had two starts, both at Sandown. Debut over 1000m was a real eye catcher before racing at 1200m where she was very disappointing after being hard in the market, with the jockey saying post race she felt flat, which is a concern, but happy to back the judgement of the stable.

Race 3. (13:46) Grand Syndicates Supports SA Racing Handicap (70) 1250m

I think the class of 1 More Than Exceed (Bet Now: $2.15) just about gets him home. Phillip Stokes trains this three year old and interesting he had a couple of runners nominated for this race, including Raging Queen, but goes with this bloke, who returns to SA after campaigning in Melbourne where he ran well without winning. Hoping Gary Lo goes forward from the outset and then can take a sit behind Toorak Smock/Counter Drive and have last say.

Danger

2 Counter Drive (Bet Now: $3.00) has returned in super order for the Macdonald/Gluyas team. Strung together a couple of impressive wins before racing on the course proper two weeks ago where he was near the speed and doing work, fighting on strongly to run second to the well backed Toolbar. Looks to get the lead here and that’s when he appears to race best.

Long Shot

Hard to find a Long Shot because those high in the market look to dominate proceedings, so third pick is 5 Yulong June (Bet Now: $6.00)ย  for Tony McEvoy, who comes here off the back of a failure at Caulfield where she just went too keen on speed and dropped out late behind Smart Elissim. Drops significantly in depth, Nose Roll goes on to hopefully relax and should do no work from gate one.

Race 4. (14:26) On The Pulse Equine Handicap (70) 1550m

Looking at this race with the assumption Killavally races at Flemington. Going the way of 1 Cafe Tortini (Bet Now: $2.15) for the in form Patrick Payne stable. Thought it was a really sweet steer from Mick Dee that got him home last time out at Sale, waiting as long as possible to let him down and when he did, he responded and held a safe margin to the line. Gets run of the race and just appears better than these.

Danger

They rode 3 Nudge Bar (Bet Now: $4.00) with cover last time out on the course proper two weeks ago and I’m just not sure those tactics worked. He ran well, but looked to have his chance when third to Howlowcanyougo. Sat on speed the start prior and I think there is the opportunity to glide over from the wide gate to sit near the pace and if that eventuates, he’ll take some beating.

Long Shot

Really interesting runner is 6 Mannix (Bet Now: $7.00), who had his first run for Will Clarken last Wednesday over 1250m here when back in the run off a fast speed and looked in trouble on the turn but balanced up in the straight and savaged the line late to get the win. He looks as if he will eat up further, which he gets here, and always have to respect these Clarken runners when they take the next step.

Race 5. (15:06) Ductair Handicap (82) 1550m

Interesting placement from Matt Cumani when it comes to 5 Tristano (Bet Now: $3.80). Was really good on speed two back behind Lord Belvedere before going to Sandown where he pulled up lame in a total forgive behind Bedford, who won last Saturday to frank the form. With 51kg on his back, I would assume Lewis German will look to hold the lead and if that eventuates, he’ll take some beating.

Danger

Back to 1550m and rising in weight is the concern for 1 Street Sheik (Bet Now: $2.35) but he’s racing very well at the moment. Was a bit harsh on his run at Caulfield two back, with most riders in that race saying they couldn’t see a thing given how dark it was. Patrick Payne backed him up a week later over 1800m at Morphettville and under a lovely ride from Tahlia Hope, he was far too good for his rivals. Goes up 5kg and comes back in trip, so they are the negatives and he’s short in the market, but clearly the best horse in the race.

Long Shot

4 France’s Boy (Bet Now: $7.50) is racing in really good form at the moment for the John Hickmott. He ran over the mile on the course proper two weeks ago when well off the speed but savaged the line late to run third to Balcazar. Back to 1550m is the concern with him, as is his horrible record on the Parks track, but he’s in career best form and has to be included.

Race 6. (15:46) Willow Grove Stud Handicap (86) 1000m

See no reason to jump off the Gordon Richards trained 4 Bold Star (Bet Now: $2.90), who has been up a fair while but continues to race really well. Ran over 1200m on the course proper two weeks ago where he did work in the run to get on speed and was entitled to perhaps fade late, but he kept finding under Raquel Clark and was impressive, albeit the inside lanes were the better ground. Back to 1000m a little query, but a strong speed should see him sit off it and be strong late.

Danger

6 Seven Year Reward (Bet Now: $4.40) is a former Greg Eurell runner who had his first run for Will Clarken over 1050m on the course proper two weeks ago and while the form guide says he ran sixth, beaten 3.5L, his run was much better than that given he had to make his run out wide and it was a meeting there those nearer the inside were advantaged. Giving him another chance.

Long Shot

7 Ready Sunshine (Bet Now: $35.00) is a rising nine year old for Ryan Balfour who is on the seven day back up after racing at Gawler (Metro) last Saturday where he got back in the run and finished off strongly to run fourth, and note that race was late in the day and the pattern towards the end was on speed/rail was the place to be, so his run was good. Harder here, but a knockout chance.

Sue Jaensch has 7 Disco Rebel (Bet Now: $8.50) in career best form at the moment. Loved the way she let down to win two back at Casterton before racing over 2250m here last Wednesday when wide throughout but despite that, ambled to the front in the straight and kept going for a dominant win. Harder here, but have to like the way she’s going about it at the moment.

Danger

Returning to Adelaide could spark 4 Good Idea (Bet Now: $7.00) into some positive form again. Impressive winner three back at Seymour before racing at Sandown at his next two where he raced flat and was disappointing. He is bred to be a handy stayer and I think the drop in depth will help his cause and at his best, he’s certainly capable of beating this lot.

Long Shot

1 Up ‘N’ Rolling (Bet Now: $17.00) is gradually getting race fitness under the belt for Grant Young after formerly being with Chris Waller. He ran last Saturday at Gawler and that isn’t his racing pattern at all so for mine, a total forgive behind Dane Of Heroes. He’s better when ridden with a sit, so up to 2400m, I think that will eventuate here, and is one for multiples.

Race 8. (17:05) Racing.com Handicap (70) 1250m

Back Me

Have to give 1 Mr Hamilton (Bet Now: $4.20) another chance. Toughed it out strongly to win first up before racing here a few weeks ago and on face value, you’d have to mark him down as disappointing behind Irish Mint but perhaps doing a little bit of work in the run with the 60kg, second up off a good first up win, perhaps he was flat. Hoping for a sharp third up bounce back and two trials since have been sharp.

Danger

6 Raging Queen (Bet Now: $3.80) a definite threat for me. Phillip Stokes trains this filly, who is first up, having not raced since contesting a lead up to the Oaks, the Laelia, where she finished off strongly from off the pace to run third to Cosmic Alert. Think she’ll be better over further, but has a touch of class on her side and her trial win last week at Murray Bridge was very good.

Long Shot

What to make of 7 Swipe Me Right (Bet Now: $9.00), a Bill Bogarts trained gelding who ran over this track/distance last Wednesday where he sat back in the ruck before Tourneur eased wider on the turn and under hard riding, he produced a brilliant finale despite wanting to lay in and scored a sharp win. His best is Saturday class, so if he brings what he produced last Wednesday, he’s in the mix.
