Nine races will be run and won at Belmont this Saturday where it is Belmont Guineas Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Belmont Guineas 🏆: View the Field for the Belmont Guineas
Race 1. (13:53) Tabtouch Westspeed Plat. Mdn 1400m
Tricky maiden but I think 9 Western Rhythm (Bet Now: $1.35) can get away with this. Brock Lewthwaite trains this Sessions filly, who debuted over 1200m here two weeks ago in a Maiden where she was off the speed and took a while to get going but picked up late and surged hard to just miss out on the win. She’ll eat up 1400m and is clearly the one to beat.
3 Jono (Bet Now: $9.00) should appreciate 1400m her for Neville Parnham. Ran over 1300m here back on May 28 when wide with cover before edging wider and finishing off strongly when second to Cousin Ivan. Racing as if 1400m will suit and overall, this isn’t the strongest maiden going around, so I think he has to be respected.
1 Redwood Ransom (Bet Now: $18.00) has had numerous chances to break the maiden tag but for multiples I’d certainly be including him. Was two months between runs when racing over 1200m at Kalgoorlie where he got back in the run and worked home well late to run third to Roseicapilla. 1400m is fine…does he have the class?
Race 2. (14:32) Amelia Park Plate 1300m
I’m going the way of 7 Seven Kingdoms (Bet Now: $8.00) for Team Williams. This Fighting Sun gelding debuted last Wednesday over 1000m here where he seemed to be run off his legs early and couldn’t really pick up soon after but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Madam Torio. Like him up to 1300m and has gate one, plus Pike sticks.
1 Reign Of Fire (Bet Now: $1.24) has the win on the board and will be a leading chance, but from a betting perspective, I couldn’t touch him, especially if he starts silly short odds. The reason I say that is although visually, he was outstanding, they’ve come out slow, around 36.7 for the first 600m, and leader to winner last 600m was 35.7, so they were entitled to come home a lot quicker than that given the soft tempo. Can win, but IMO, he’ll be short. I’d want $4+ before entertaining.
9 Lasting Impact (Bet Now: $23.00) should appreciate the rise to 1300m for Neville Parnham. Comes through the Reign Of Fire race from two weeks ago over 1200m here. He was keen in the run off the slow speed and didn’t quicken immediately but was sound to the line in finishing third. Up in trip I do like and is one for multiples.
Race 3. (15:12) Perth Racing At Home (bm71+) 1400m
6 Showmanship (Bet Now: $1.22) is one of a few good things on the card here. Team Williams look to have a very promising four year old on their hands here. He gave them a pasting at this track/distance two weeks ago, sitting near the speed throughout before Pike clicked him up and away he went. He’s a future Stakes class horse and should win again.
5 Mr Genoa (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Luke Fernie trained four year old who was very good in defeat two weeks ago over 1200m here. Wide no cover on speed for the trip and was entitled to drop out but he kept chipping away and was a definite pass mark when third to Black Ducati. How much did that run take out of him? The market should be a guide.
7 Dark Prospect (Bet Now: $31.00) is a very interesting runner. He’s better suited at 2000m+ but his three runs this prep have come over 1400m, the latest seeing him work home strongly from the back to run second to Showmanship. He’ll want a rise in trip eventually but staying at 1400m is certainly no negative off the last run.
Race 4. (15:48) Belmont Guineas 1600m
Bad luck is the only thing beating 5 Kay Cee (Bet Now: $1.55). Was somewhat against her when she resumed in the Raconteur given she was first up off a decent break and not at an ideal trip. But class came through and she got up to beat Laverrod, producing the best last 400m of the meeting. Only has to hold that form to win never mind the upside she’s got.
7 Karijini Aurora (Bet Now: $8.50) ran third to Kay Cee in the Raconteur and I thought the run had plenty of merit to it. It was her first run in seven weeks and got a bit keen in the run. Despite that, she kept finding and was really good in defeat. She’ll take good improvement off that and I think a good lead here is Pike is booked to steer.
2 Tinsnip (Bet Now: $41.00) has the ability to run a positive race here, but he just hasn’t showed it for some time. Two runs back from a break have been poor, especially last start where he sat near last and stayed there in an awful run. Karrakatta runner up from last year, so he’s the talent. Just needs to show it now and stable wouldn’t persist.
Race 5. (16:28) The Turf Club (bm62+) 1200m
7 Bright Diamond (Bet Now: $2.15) on top. Team Williams trained filly that is 2/2 to start her career, both starts/wins coming here. Debuted with a win over 1000m, with the bob of the head going her way. Then stepped up to this trip and was very good late in wearing them down, clocking good late splits. Heading in the right direction and clearly can measure up here.
5 She’s Enchanted (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Brett Pope trained filly that is on the seven day back up after racing over 1000m here last Saturday where she was well backed late and under a lovely steer from McNaught, the filly was too good in beating the older horses. Back to her own age I do like and should be fine at 1200m. Leading chance.
6 Mood Swings (Bet Now: $11.00) is three weeks between runs for George Dupre after racing over this track/distance where he wasn’t really suited by the stop/start tempo of the race but picked up and was good late when third to Indian Pacific in what has turned out to be a red hot form reference. Does he want further? Time will tell.
Race 6. (17:05) All Flags Signs&banners-rs1mw 1200m
6 Wanna Be Good (Bet Now: $8.50)…I’m sick. Why do I keep giving him a chance? He hasn’t won in over a year, but surely…he’s got a win in him soon. Ran over 1000m here last Wednesday and was one of the runs of the day from near last when second to Kennedy, clearly producing the best late splits of the meeting. Like him up in trip and certainly finds a winnable race.
4 Maschino Miss (Bet Now: $8.50) is a daughter of Mischino for David Harrison that resumes. This mare hasn’t raced since contesting the Esperance Bay Sprint when second to Abu Dhabi, who led from the front and gave nothing else a look in. Interesting she resumes without a public trial but is a mare who can sprint well fresh.
10 Cockyjoy (Bet Now: $15.00) is a daughter of Galah who should be suited up to 1200m. Resumed over 1000m here two weeks ago when on speed throughout and tried hard but lacked the killer blow when third to the progressive We’ve Got Dreams. Yet to prove herself at 1200m but has done enough to suggest she’ll be okay at it.
Race 7. (17:40) Mumm Champagne (bm78+) 1600m
There are good things on the card, but I’m hoping 11 Jeraft (Bet Now: $16.00) is double figure odds because I think he’s a really good gamble each way, provided the track is dry. Forget he went around last Saturday behind Windstorm when four wide no cover for the trip on the Soft7 track. Much better suited on firmer footing and Chris Parnham takes the ride back, plus loves the seven day back up.
12 Son Of Bacchus (Bet Now: $5.00) should appreciate a firmer deck here. Ran over this track/distance three weeks on testing ground and couldn’t finish the race off after getting a sweet run in transit behind Festival Miss. He can be a bit hit and miss but if he gets the right run in transit, which he maps to get here, he can be dangerous.
The class of 1 Wrinkly (Bet Now: $6.00) will carry him a long way. Neville Parnham trained gelding who is on the seven day back up after racing over 1200m here last Saturday when near a genuine speed and tried hard when fourth to the heavily backed Mankind. 1200m straight to the mile in seven days is a query, but has class and will give a bold sight from near the front.
Race 8. (18:10) Crown Towers (bm66+) 1600m
Hard to get away from 8 Western Pride (Bet Now: $2.10) for Adam Durrant. Her first run in a year came over 1300m here two weeks ago when put into a lovely spot under Pike and from the home turn onwards, it was a pretty painless watch if you were on. She’ll eat up the 1600m…the knock would be second up syndrome, but she’s in the right hands.
1 Gates Of Babylon (Bet Now: $6.50) has done little wrong for Brett Pope this time. Three weeks between runs since attempting to lead throughout at this track/distance and he gave a really good kick when asked by Pateman. Just found one better in Festival Miss. Looks to get a good run on speed, will give a sight…last bit will be the acid.
Up to 1600m I do like for 6 Megazone (Bet Now: $20.00). Ashley Maley trains this gelding, who has raced over 1400m at his past couple, the latest being two weeks ago when a closing third to a promising animal in Showmanship. That form reads well for a race like this and up to the mile, can see him running a positive race at odds.
Race 9. (18:45) Byron Bay Premium Lager-bm71+ 1000m
7 Cryptic Love (Bet Now: $14.00) on top for me. David Harrison trained mare who has been freshened up, having not raced since May 9 over 1200m at Ascot when a fast finishing fourth to Double Bubble, clocking the best late splits of the meeting. Fresh, back to 1000m, will she need the run? Think the market will be the main guide in answering that question.
3 Massimo (Bet Now: $2.50) can win this, but from a betting perspective, he’s well and truly going through to the keeper. He was touted as a possible Winterbottom horse during the Summer Carnival last year. He hasn’t lived up to that hype this time in, beaten in all four runs, three of those being sent as favourite. Can’t back him, but his best would see him spank these.
1 Hoboken (Bet Now: $23.00) is a son of Statue Of Liberty who has been around the mark for a little while but had a run of outs. That all changed at this track/distance three weeks on a wet track. Put into a lovely spot off a good speed and was able to wear down stablemate Guns Of Navarone. Can he repeat the dose? Time will tell.
