20/12/2024 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gold Coast, Magic Millions The Debut night

History will be made at the Gold Coast this Friday, with the lights switched on for the first night meeting, headlined by The Debut (1000m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.

6 Amalgamation (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat against these. He comes through the Cormac T race from two weeks back at Eagle Farm. He was specked at odds and ran up to that push, getting a good run in transit and tried hard but just lacked the class/quality. That form clearly reads well for this.

2 Noctilucent (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for the Edmonds/McLean camp that is a last start maiden winner. That win came over 1700m here where he got better as the race went on and was quite dominant late in the piece. The rise to 2200m should be fine and he has upside/scope.

11 Going To The Sun (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will stay all day and is a must for exotics. He ran over 2400m here last time out when off speed and despite being on the one paced side, he kept on and was pretty good in defeat. Not sure he is good enough to win but can be entertain for exotics.

8 Katerini (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks ready to rock and roll. Keen on her prospects after two encouraging runs to start the prep. Real eye catcher fresh at Doomben before going there again where she got off the speed on testing ground and found the line okay without threatening behind stablemate Bluepinot. Hard fit, 1800m, and firmer footing, she takes beating.

2 Ionaceltic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a stablemate of Katerini and is knocking on the door. He ran second over the mile at Ipswich last time when on speed and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite finish the job, eventually finishing second. Gets a good set up here and I think will be dangerous with a more patient steer.

4 Flash One Hey (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one that has less convictions than most and 1800m should be fine. He ran over the mile on the Sunny Coast Poly last time out when on speed and he tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to Rumbling Away. Not sure he wins, but a first four threat.

8 Merchant Gold (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should run well here. Brett Cavanough trained three year old that is on debut off the back of a couple of trials, both in NSW and at Newcastle, looking strong each time. Big field, but I say the depth isn’t deep, so I say he will run only run well against these.

15 Ecclestone (Bet Now:  $SP.00) lands on speed and takes beating. Formerly with Team Snowden, his first run for Tony Gollan came over 1200m at Doomben when attempting to lead throughout and he tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through when third to Creativity Miss. Firmer footing, he’ll take beating.

20 Anson Bay (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can be an improver. Stablemate of Ecclestone that resumed at Doomben over 1200m. He went forward, ridden with intent, and tried hard, but condition just gave way late in the piece behind Attentive. Had trialled well prior so I am not dismissing him.

12 Stellar Lady (Bet Now:  $SP.00) seems the straight bat play for Matty Hoysted after a dominant win over 1000m at the Sunny Coast where she got the suck run in transit. Just a matter of pushing the button and once that eventuated, she was far too good. Maps ideally again and should be strong late.

10 Monte Cruise (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a talented daughter of Deep Field that resumes for Noel Mayfield-Smith. This girl is first up, having not raced since Aug 20 at Taree when near the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through when third to Telegraph. Trialled well for the return and will be strong late.

8 Mouette (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous with her best. Forgive/forget her run two back given she did too much work on speed and that early burn told late in the piece when down the track behind The Astronomer before racing at Doomben again when failing to fire. Back to this level, better run in transit, she’s a threat at odds.

My recommendation here is back 6 Forgotten Spirit (Bet Now:  $SP.00) each way here and take some of the $101 available for the Magic Millions because if she wins here, she becomes a $15/$21 chance. Tony Gollan has been dominant with the juveniles in QLD to start the season, but outside his stable, I think the pick of the local juveniles is this girl. Her two trials have been outstanding, trained on the track, and maps perfect.

10 Wollzeile (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Tassort for Kris Lees that commands respect. She won a trial at Wyong over 845m and although the margin was narrow, the time was pretty good and she seemed to move well enough. Stable has been good with their juveniles, so watch the market.

3 Jaggery (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Encryption for Liam Birchley that won a trial over 850m here. The trial win was narrow but the overall time was solid enough to my eye and from gate one, Voel Callow aboard, I think he’ll run a positive race at odds.

2 Cosmic Fire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be rated as one of the hardest to beat after resuming with a dominant win over 1000m several weeks ago at the Sunny Coast, giving them a start, and a beating, and was quite strong to the line in getting the job done. Kept on ice with The Sunlight in mind I dare say and his recent trial win was very sharp.

9 Overfull (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given another chance. She ran a blinder in defea at Flemington during Cup Week before being freshened and going to Doomben where she found heavy ground and struggled. Fresh legs and back to 1000m, she appeals.

5 Star Ambition (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner. He returns to racing as a gelding for the Edmonds/McLean camp, having not raced since the Winter when having a two run prep, winning on debut before a second to Astapor at Eagle Farm. Trial work has been strong and has home track advantage.

11 Lord Of Biscay (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat here. Trialled up like a rocket prior to resuming at Kembla where he just looked in need of the run and that’s how it panned out when down the track behind The Novelist. His best is more than good enough.

10 Billionair Baby (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here as a last start winner in town, that win coming two weeks ago at Doomben where he got a beaut run in transit near the speed before being asked for the big effort by Wheeler and he proved quite dominant late in the piece. Maps ideally again, commands respect.

2 Atlantic Ocean (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of I Am Invincible that resumes for Chris Waller. He is first up, having not raced since Aug 17 at Doomben when down the track and at the end of his prep behind Rockribbed, who was flying at the time. He can sprint well fresh and didn’t mind his trial to get ready.

Gee this race has thinned out after scratchings. I’ll go with 22 Miss Trustful (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Ciaron Maher trained filly that resumed at Canterbury where she got into a decent spot from the inside gate but just lacked the class to go with them late in the piece behind Codetta. Looks better suited at this level and maps to get run of the race.

3 Lady Shotgun (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Angela Plumb. 2/2 this time in, both coming here. First up, she was impressive on the Synthetic but was even better last time out on the Turf, giving them a start and a beating in an electric performance. Harder here, but confident she measures up.

10 New Level (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Almanzor that resumes for Kelly Schweida. This guy is first up, having not raced since July 17 at Doomben when racing over the mile and didn’t fire when last behind Tambourine Man. Liked the way he went in a recent Deagon trial and can sprint well fresh, so watch the market.

NEXT BEST: Race Six Number 2 Cosmic Fire

LONG SHOT: Race Five Number 6 Forgotten Spirit
