20/1/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Murray Bridge

1 Call Me Shamus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. He ran over this trip three weeks ago at Morphetville in what became a sit/sprint and wasn’t too bad late in the piece, clocking the best late splits of the race when second to a very much in form Rebel Lee. Think Murray Bridge will be more to his liking and if he’s within range, I think class gets him home.

5 Lake’s Folly (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a consistent animal for Michael Hickmott that should be around the mark. He had the suck run from the gate at Morphettville a few weeks back but couldn’t dash when they sprinted. He stayed on and was solid in defeat behind Rebel Lee but was comfortably held. He gets home track advantage now and hopefully with a more genuine tempo, he’ll be dangerous.

7 Ammo Amor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Kristi Evans and will be out of trouble on speed, which was the case when winning three weeks back, getting complete control in front and giving nothing else a look in under a super front running steer from Metcalfe. Clearly more depth here, but hard to knock the way he’s going and he will give himself every chance.

2 Larimer Street (Bet Now:  $SP.00) gets another chance for me. I was keen on him when resuming three weeks ago at Morphettville but being first up off one soft jumpout, his condition just gave way late behind the very much in form and hard fit Aston Rapova. He has that run on the board and I think the Murray Bridge 1000m is a much better set up for him to sit back and launch at these late.

7 Zoulah (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is better suited over further but she is a quality mare for the Clarken/O’Shea camp that resumes. She did a good job in the Winter/Spring, headlined by a narrow second in the Balaklava Cup. 1600m is her go in life, and I dare say is prepped towards Adelaide Cup Day, but she will be strong late and has class.

8 Mr Have A Chat (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has come back in really good order and appeals as one of the hardest to beat. Led at a furious tempo fresh and knocked up late when fourth to Rodeo before running second to that horse a few weeks ago, sitting near the speed and fighting on very gamely, only getting nabbed late. Last bit I think will test but he is much better suited at 1000m here IMO. One of the main contenders.

1 Hopon Harry (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. Tough win over this trip at Morphettville on Boxing Day where he had to knuckle down late to get the better of an in form Wild Imagination but in a driving finish, he was too good for them. He’s come back in really good order and only has to hold his form to just about be winning again despite some likely types engaged.

4 Blazerro (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win one. He ran a few weeks ago at Murray Bridge over 1400m and kept finding the line in defeat, only getting nabbed near the peg by a hard fit and in form Saskatoon. Slight query at 1600m but he has the right form around him, he has upside and stable is in form. Leading contender.

6 The Map (Bet Now:  $SP.00) resuming at 1600m tells me this kicks off her Adelaide Cup prep. Her last run came on November 16 over 2500m at Morphettville when making an absolute mess of them in a dominant display, confirming her status as one of the more promising staying types in SA at the moment. 1600m is short of her best, but should launch late and could pinch a first four spot with residual fitness.

9 Winning Revolution (Bet Now:  $SP.00) hasn’t been too bad in three runs for Jon O’Connor and is hard to beat here. He ran over 1100m three weeks ago at Morphettville where he had a suck run behind the speed and was there to threaten at the top of the straight but couldn’t quite get there behind Hongbao. They have tried to stretch him out in trip but he is a 1000m horse. Hard to beat back to this trip.

7 Brazano (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have come back in pretty good order. Market said it would be a prep run when resuming at Morphettville on Boxing Day and despite never really being a threat, I thought he found the well enough in defeat behind impressive winner Our Heidi, who would be odds on in a race like this. Off that effort, he commands respect here.

12 Waterhead (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a 1000m horse in a 1000m race so with that in mind, she is a sneaky first four prospect. Both runs back from a spell have come over 1000m at Port Lincoln where each time she has been on speed and fought on pretty well in defeat each time behind a couple of horses who have run well in town before, Effortkat fresh and last time behind Storm Voyager. She’ll give a sight I am sure.

9 En Francais (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Jake Stephens trained mare that resumes. This mare is better suited over further but she has talent and has upside/progression compared to most. Her jumpout work has been pretty good and this stable can get them ready to go fresh. 1400m first up rather than 1200m tells me there is some level of intent, so watch the market.

3 Jack The Lad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks like he will be winning races in SA. Formerly with Chris Waller, he had his first run for the Francis/Kent camp four weeks ago here in a much stronger race than this and was very good in defeat behind Saskatoon. The depth here is nowhere near as strong, he has good upside and should be strong at the end.

4 Just Chipping Away (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Darryl Dodson since racing at this track/distance where he wasn’t really suited by the sit/sprint set up of the race but stuck on and was quite game in defeat behind Saskatoon. He has that 1400m run under the belt now, which should hold him in good stead for this in what is a winnable race.

I’ll take a punt on 2 Morialta (Bet Now:  $SP.00), who resumes for Stuart Padman. This gelding had a two run early Spring prep and didn’t really fire a shot each time, so he was tipped out soon after. He looks to have come back really well off a jumpout and trial, both here. 1000m is on the short side, but he will be strong late off what looks a very genuine tempo.

10 Sabermetric (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a hit/miss type but hit and he’s hard to beat. Had the A1 run in transit at Morphettville on Boxing Day and despite a struggle to eventually get the win, he surged late and was strong to the line in winning, beating Danish Fortune, who ran well last Saturday at Gawler and looks hard to beat earlier in the day, so you’ll know come jump time here how strong that form is.

11 Hello Ladies (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should love the rise to 1000m for Shayne Cahill. This gelding resumed over 900m at Murray Bridge where he got back to near last in the run and spotted those in front too much head start but loved the way he found the line late in the piece behind My Ruby, clocking good late splits. Can settle much closer in the run and be strong late. Hard to beat against these.

10 Whiskey N Woman (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top in the get out. Jordan Frew trains this gelding, who has home track advantage and is bursting to win a race. Looked hard to beat on paper here last start but was caught wide no cover for the trip and did a super job to fight on like he did, beaten a lip by Spears. Should get a more economical run in transit, Pannell sticks and he’ll do me here.

6 Eaglelou (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is suited back in trip. He ran over 1800m at Morphettville last time out where he was ridden quite negatively I thought by Potter, spotting Residue far too much head start and was never a factor, being asked to do too much. Drops a fair bit in depth here and I think with a more positive ride, he can run a much improved race and take this out.

14 Kaciga (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a sneaky first four prospect at a big price. This mare was 1600m back to 1500m at Morphettville a few weeks back and was solid to the line late from off the speed when fourth to impressive winner Lacrima. The first up run was quite good so despite massive SP’s in those runs back from a break, she’s in with a shout and a win wouldn’t totally shock.

Siding with 2 General Mint (Bet Now:  $SP.00). He ran over 900m here last time out where he was on the fence and chasing from the outset, but was good to the line late in the piece when fourth to Daskulya. He does seem much better suited up in trip, which is what he gets here, and Murray Bridge should be more ideal than what he would have faced at Oakbank on Wednesday.

Fresh legs and back to 1100m is a big tick for 3 Betta Eddie (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Latest run came over 1350m at Strathalbyn last time where he was back and wide in the run and despite doing work, he kept finding the line and was good in defeat behind Kayseri. Maps to get a lovely run in transit and should be strong at the end. One of the main contenders.

1 French Rock (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has run well at Murray Bridge previously and his best is certainly good enough to be dangerous. He was massive in defeat at Oakbank last time when four wide the trip yet kept finding the line when third to dominant winner Sir Grumpy. He was a month between runs so you’d think there is room for improvement and gets in well after the claim.

I think getting back to a bigger track will be ideal for 3 Dantela (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Dunn/Bishop trained mare that was good in defeat two back at Balaklava before going to 1350m on the home deck at Port Lincoln where he was back near last in the run and never a winning factor but liked the way he found the line late in the piece when third. He should get a nice drag into the race and prove strong at the end.

If 2 Shez Betty (Bet Now:  $SP.00) runs up to the first up run, she wins, but her overall record is plain. That said, the return behind Wonderwomen was very good at Gawler, finding the line well behind the dominant winner. If you can trust that first up effort, even money seems overs, but 14: 1-1-1 isn’t a record I’d be too keen to take $2 about, so I think watch the market.

4 Shema (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can bounce back against this moderate bunch. Strong maiden win two back at Port Lincoln before going to 1700m at Gawler where she found the distance and class a bit rich when down the track behind track specialist Getouttheway. Back to this grade and back to 1400m, I think she can run a much improved race.

6 Turf Tapper (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps in the get out. He ran over 1050m at Oakbank last time out where he got a mile out of his ground and didn’t quite handle the tight track but balanced up and found the line quite well late behind Sir Grumpy. He has a good second up record and with Winkers again, that should sharpen him up and can settle closer in the run from the gate.

7 Bignota (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying at the moment and is hard to beat. He found a moderate 54 at Mount Gambier last time where he produced sustained speed from the front and gave nothing else a look in, winning by a space with something in hand. Drawn wide, but should press forward and with the claim, he does get in quite well. Leading contender.

1 Fearless Al (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a veteran but gee it’s hard to knock the way he’s going at the moment. Forgive and forget he went around two back at Port Lincoln before going to 1400m at Oakbank off a freshen up and was good to the line without threatening when third to Fizique. The late splits there were some of the best of the meeting so I think he commands respect against these.

BEST BET: Race Five Number 8 East Indiaman

NEXT BEST: Race Four Number 9 Winning Revolution

LONG SHOT: Race Six Number 2 Morialta
