The iconic two day Wagga Carnival kicks off this Thursday where it is Town Plate Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

7 Snow In May (Bet Now: $1.90) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. John O’Shea trained filly that has trialled well on a couple of occasions in readiness for start one, the latest over 900m at Canterbury when a closing second, and did respond to riding. Stable likes to target this race and this isn’t a field that has depth.

10 Yes Isla Yes (Bet Now: $7.00) is a daughter of Yes Yes Yes on debut for Theresa Bateup. This girl trialled at Canterbury when near the speed throughout and was asked for an effort, but did respond and was good in defeat behind a dominant winner. Maps to do no work in the run and stable loves this track, and this Carnival.

3 Conjoin (Bet Now: $21.00) is a knockout hope. He took on older horses two back at this track/distance and struggled on the bog before going back to 1000m in the Prelude to this race and found the line well enough without threatening. Back up in trip, he’ll likely spot them a start but should be strong at the end.

Going to have an each way throw at the stumps in the shape of 3 Chasing Quivers (Bet Now: $46.00), who is on debut for David O’Prey. This girl didn’t set the world on fire in the Spring in a couple of trials so was spelled. She was given a good break and looked very sharp in all the way jumpout win on the Wangaratta Synthetic. Tricky draw, but reckon she has enough talent to measure up, and she is a decent enough price to find out.

1 Hulm (Bet Now: $5.00) is one of the more fascinating runners on the card. Formerly with Team Snowden, he is now with Ross Purcell, and gee his trial at Leeton was electric. He led throughout, smashed the clock and did it without being extended. He looks prepped right up for this so the market will be fascinating.

5 Kurokaren (Bet Now: $10.00) is an improver for Gary Colvin. This mare resumed over 1175m at Albury when near the speed throughout and tried hard but being first up, condition just gave way late when third. Maps to get a better run in transit and back to 1000m, she should be strong at the end.

2 Adolphus (Bet Now: $1.80) seems the straight bat option for Matty Dale. This guy is first up after a two run Spring prep to start his career, running very well each time, the second run seeing him place at Canberra. Resumes without a public trial but gets Tommy Berry and maps perfect. On race day form, he’s the one to beat.

6 Scarli Japali (Bet Now: $5.50) was strong on debut and commands respect. She debuted over 1200m here where she got back to near last in the run and spotted those in front a tidy start but I really liked the way she found the line late in the piece behind Box Of Crackers. Fitter and up to 1400m, she rates highly.

4 Divine Conclusion (Bet Now: $23.00) is a son of Divine Prophet that is on debut. This guy has had just one trial for Darrell Burnet after two trials with Gab Ellis. The trial for Burnet came over 1000m here and he moved well enough I thought. Debuting at 1400m signals intent, so watch the market and see what it does.

6 Check Side (Bet Now: $7.00) is racing like he will appreciate 1600m and has a kind map. His last couple of runs have come over 1400m, the latest being here where he got back from the inside gate and was widest on the turn, somehow, and did make up ground, but was never a winning factor. Hopefully can be nearer the inside this time around and be effective late.

9 Oneforian (Bet Now: $5.00) should like getting to the mile. He ran a closing second fresh at the Sapphire Coast before going to Canberra when on speed and was a bit one paced when asked but he kept on and was good in defeat behind Imasuperstar, Should press forward and third up, should just about be hard fit, ready to go.

7 Goofinator (Bet Now: $8.50) has done little wrong in an eight start career and is a definite knockout hope. He comes back to the mile after racing over 2000m at Canberra last time when on speed and tried hard but just failed to see the trip out. He’ll be strong late and maps ideally. A win wouldn’t shock at all.

3 Just Go Bang (Bet Now: $6.50) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. He got the job done over the mile at Canberra last time, settling off the speed before getting wider, building into the race and got better as the race went on to win. 2000m, I think, will be fine, and this isn’t a deep race.

7 Duchy Of Cornwall (Bet Now: $8.00) is dangerous against these. Tim Donnelly trained gelding that comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since March 21 over 2000m at Albury when just off the speed but failed to make up any real headway and was never really a factor. Tick over trial was good and is trained on the track. Watch the market.

11 Hurricane Coni (Bet Now: $12.00) looks the leader and is dangerous if he gets front end control. He led in the Canberra race mentioned above and just couldn’t quite see it through, feeling the pinch late to finish a close up fifth. He is a winner at the trip and if he gets a soft lead, he’ll take running down.

1 Sturn Words (Bet Now: $4.80) is a progressive three year old for Joseph/Jones. Bombed the start which sealed his fate when resuming at Goulburn before going to the Sapphire Coast where he got into a decent spot behind the speed before angling into clear air and he got better as the race went on and was dominant late. Room for improvement, happy to be in his corner.

3 Big Opinion (Bet Now: $6.00) commands respect. Matty Dale trained gelding that is 2/2 this time in, getting the job done fresh over 1000m at Goulburn before heading to 1175m at Albury where he had to fight hard, both on the track and in the Stewards Room, to win the race, but credit to him, he toughed it out. Good test here, but confident he measures up.

7 Bobotov (Bet Now: $15.00) lands on speed and will keep chipping away. His last couple of runs have come over 1400m at Albury, the latest seeing him outside the speed and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found and was too good. Good racing style, he commands some level of respect.

8 Secret Plan (Bet Now: $31.00) is worth a throw at the stumps for mine. Former WA galloper that had a stint in Victoria with John Leek Jr but is having his first proper prep for Richard Litt after two runs in the Spring where they were nothing runs. Litt has had a full prep with him and gee his trials to get ready have been outstanding. Big price, happy to find out how he’s going each way.

1 Rocketing By (Bet Now: $8.50) is three weeks between runs for David Pfieffer since racing in the Star Kingdom at Rosehill where he got back to near last in the run and did make up headway but was never really a factor behind Bandi’s Boy but he was still good in defeat. Good upside and improvement to come, he’s in the mix.

12 Body Bob (Bet Now: $5.50) lands on speed and will take running down at odds. He resumed over 1200m at Canberra where he did work to land on speed and he was entitled to knock up but he kept chipping and was only nabbed late by Merc. He has a good racing style, he’s tough, fitter…leading contender.

14 County Kilkenny (Bet Now: $7.50) is the way to go for mine in the get out. Tim Donnelly trained gelding that was building to win and he got it over the mile at Albury, knuckling down with purpose late to get up in the final couple of strides. Home track advantage, off a win, strong late…happy to be in his corner.

10 Capital Express (Bet Now: $5.50) is flying for Donna Scott and rates as one of the leading contenders. She was knocking on the door to win and that win came last start over this track/distance, giving them a start and a beating in a very strong performance. She’s found winning form and she can certainly go on with it.

2 Invertational (Bet Now: $18.00) loves racing at Wagga and strikes a winnable race. She ran in a strong Federal at Canberra last time where she got back in the run and made up some headway without threatening behind Baledon. The rise to 1600m I find interesting and is drawn tricky, but should be strong late and has class.
