Bendigo will host a strong stand alone program this Saturday for Golden mile Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:25) RSN 945am Handicap (84) 2400m
9 Point Nepean (Bet Now: $3.60 TOP ODDS) has the Team Williams polish so he has to be respected. He resumed over 2400m at Sandown and was hailed as the winner but got nabbed near the peg by Eco Warrior. He’ll be better for the run and does bring with him from overseas some class, plus down in the weights…he appeals big time.
3 Scarlet Tufty (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) has found positive form and I think he can hold it. He contested the Stony Creek Cup last time out and battled on quite gamely when a narrow second to Vardani, a horse that is flying at the moment. Like him up to 2400m and clearly has more upside than most.
4 Creative Hero (Bet Now: $41.00 TOP ODDS) looks to bring some okay Tassie form across. Last run came in the Tassie St Leger at Launceston and was quite good late when a closing third. The racing style and the way he winds into his work suits the booking of Frog, so giving him some level of respect.
Race 2. (13:00) Carlton Draught Handicap (70) 1300m
If you can trust the win of 16 Stretto (Bet Now: $2.15 TOP ODDS) and believe he can hold that here, he’ll win again. He gave them an absolute spanking at Sandown where it was more or less a barrier trial really under J Kah, absolutely trucking in the run and he was barely extended. The one to beat if he holds that here.
17 Vitruvius (Bet Now: $13.00 TOP ODDS) is a quality animal for Paul Preusker that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since November 26 at The Valley over the mile when back in the run and tried hard, but just couldn’t quite finish it off behind Laundy. Prebble gets on really well with him and he’ll be strong late.
15 Lina’s Legend (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) has the talent to put this lot away. Just a query on his past couple. Down the track two back in the CS Hayes before sitting on speed at Flemington and just felt the pinch late behind Fortunate Kiss. He has the talent and want to give him one last chance.
Race 3. (13:35) VOBIS Gold Rush 1000m
10 Over Shady (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) looks a filly with some talent. She was kept quite safe in betting when debuting at the midweeks at Sandown over 1000m where she ran third behind a pretty smart one in Yowie. Had jumped out pretty well prior to that so want to keep her safe here.
9 Soju Session (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) will put herself on speed and give cheek. Debuted over this trip at Ballarat on a bog where she sat on speed and showed plenty late in fending them off. Was there to be beaten but found under pressure. She’ll jump on the bunny and prove hard to beat.
2 New York Hurricane (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS) will be strong late. Debuted in the Soju Session race where he just lacked the change up speed but was solid late in running fourth. This should be a truly run 1000m and on firmer footing, I think an improved showing is on the cards I feel.
Race 4. (14:15) Immix Metal Recycling Handicap (84) 1100m
14 Duchess Of Dorset (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) is a Canford Cliffs mare for Symon Wilde that resumes. Hasn’t raced since Ballarat Cup Day when spanking them, aided by a ripping steer from Linda Meech. Love horses that go out on a high and her recent Ararat jumpout suggests she’s here to run a beauty fresh.
6 Zorro’s Dream (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is flying for Mitch Freedman and he can get back into the winners list. Spanked them two back at Morphettville before racing down the Flemington straight, a track he loves, and just missed out on the win when a narrow second to Express Pass. That form reads well for this.
10 Fine Dane (Bet Now: $20.00 TOP ODDS) will put himself on speed and give his all. He tried his guts out at Flemington last time and was far from disgraced in defeat behind a Stakes class horse in Express Pass. The end of 1100m will see him get tired late, but no doubt he’ll give a sight.
Race 5. (14:55) Bendigo Gold Bracelet 1400m
3 Sirileo Miss (Bet Now: $4.20) has a class edge and I think that just about gets her home. She resumed in the Tressady at Flemington where she wasn’t suited by the race shape and shifty track, so be forgiving of that effort behind Annavisto. Much better suited here, and has class on her side.
6 La Chevalee (Bet Now: $4.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Maher/Eustace trained mare that resumed over 1400m at Sandown where she got a fair way out of her ground but really liked the way she finished her race off when third to The Garden. Fitter, she’ll take beating with her best.
7 Impecunious (Bet Now: $7.50) is a quality mare when right. This mare resumes, having not raced since Cox Plate Day when far from disgraced in the Crystal Mile behind Just Folk. She has jumped out well leading in and if they can run on from the back, she’s in with a shout.
Race 6. (15:35) St Leger Trial 2200m
2 The Cunning Fox (Bet Now: $3.00) should appreciate the rise to 2200m. Patrick Payne trained three year old that comes through the Alister Clark where he got a fair way out of his ground but didn’t mind his finale despite never being a threat behind surprise winner Prix De Turn. He was only second up off a break there so third up at 2200m I do like, and he can settle much closer in the run.
5 Celestial Fury (Bet Now: $7.00) rates highly. Resumed over the mile at Pakenham where he got a fair way back in the run and worked home very well late in the piece when second in a very encouraging return. Like him up in trip…will spot them a start but will be strong late.
7 Duke Of Bedford (Bet Now: $17.00) looks a progressive galloper for the Busuttin/Young camp. Resumed in a 1700m maiden at Geelong where he had a suck run in transit before peeling wider into clear air and as the race went on, he got better and was impressive in winning. Keen to see him at 2200m.
Race 7. (16:15) Bendigo Guineas 1400m
I thought it was a very encouraging return from 1 Chartres (Bet Now: $11.00) in the Zeditave. Blessed with the track pattern, but even allowing for that, he was a little unlucky not to finish closer behind Finance Tycoon. Far from disgraced in the Sandown Guineas in the Spring so the rise to 1400m I do like and he’s got good upside to come.
10 Cardigan Queen (Bet Now: $2.50) is a few weeks between runs for the Maher/Eustace camp since racing at Flemington where she was luckless. Was badly held up before eventually getting clear late and charging to just miss. She is flying this time in, deserves another win and gets a great chance here.
There was a bit of quality about the first up win of 3 Gundec (Bet Now: $5.50) at Geelong. He was on speed and trucking under Bowditch before being clicked up and away he went. He was dominant and his late splits were some of the best of the meeting. I think he commands respect in a winnable race.
Race 8. (16:50) Golden Mile 1600m
Surely…surely the rub of the green will go the way of 14 Cherry Tortini (Bet Now: $3.60). Good lord, if you were on his back at Flemington two weeks ago, apologies for bringing it up. He should have bolted in but had zero luck in the straight before getting clear and savaging the line late to run third to Gentleman Roy. Normal luck here and surely he wins.
1 I Am Superman (Bet Now: $5.50) could easily blow this field away. He has a fair bit on these re class. Team Snowden have just been waiting for dry ground and they’ve had to come to Bendigo to find it. First up run in the Apollo behind Think It Over was a beauty and his recent trial was sharp. If there is a query, it’s a strong mile. Can he run it?
7 Crosshaven (Bet Now: $10.00) isn’t winning races but he is racing in honest form. Ran three weeks back at Flemington over 1400m where he chased and was game, but clearly no match for Kissonallforcheeks. 1600m is a query with him, and while I doubt he wins, I can entertain him for wider multiples.
Race 9. (17:30) Global Turf Handicap (100) 1400m
10 Second Slip (Bet Now: $8.50) failed in this race last year but I think he’s going better this time around. He resumed in the Matrice on Adelaide Cup Day when on speed and fought on really strongly, only to be nabbed late by stablemate Ironclad. Fitter, up to 1400m, he’ll take beating.
4 Groundswell (Bet Now: $13.00) is a flat track bully that loves to dominate races from the front. So if that can eventuate here, he’ll take beating. Sat outside the speed in The Elms and fought on really well in defeat when fourth to Corner Pocket. The form out of this was okay in the Blamey, but this horse races best in front.
5 Milton Park (Bet Now: $41.00) looks better suited at this level. John Moloney trained gelding that comes through the Shaftesbury Avenue at Floemington where he just found the class a bit rich when down the track behind Kissonallforcheeks. This looks more his go, so an improved showing is on the cards.
