2/10/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben

Nine races will be run and won at Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out 4.5 metres for the entire circuit.

13 Acotango (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Kacy Fogden trained colt that should be respected. Son of Spieth that has had one trial to get ready, which came at the Gold Coast where he ran fourth. Didn’t wear the Blinkers. They are on for this and Ryan Maloney, who rode in the trial, sticks.

2 Heroic Son (Bet Now: $4.40) has had two trials to prepare for start one, which should hold him in good stead. Team Hulbert trained son of Heroic Valour that won his first trial in good style before a solid second here on Tuesday morning. I do like horses that trial then run a few days later.

15 Thelwell (Bet Now: $10.00) is a son of Bel Esprit that resumes. He trialled here a couple of weeks ago and looked to go about his business quite nicely I thought when a narrow second. As is the case with these juvenile races, the market will be the guide as to how well he’s going.

This looks a lovely race for the Team Edmonds mare 3 The Pines (Bet Now: $2.00). She ran two weeks back in the Pink Ribbon Cup at the Gold Coast and closed off pretty well from off the speed when second to Miami Fleiss. That form reads A1 for this. Just doesn’t want to get too far back off them.

2 Rebel Salute (Bet Now: $3.80) is a very smart horse for Team Guy but his barrier manners are mixed and they are becoming an issue for him. Cost him the win three weeks ago at Doomben, getting back after a tardy beginning and surging hard late to just miss out. Flying and if he’s within range on the turn, he’ll go close.

6 Big Bad Bruce (Bet Now: $10.00) hasn’t really done much wrong this time in for Tony Gollan. Lovely ride from Maloney saw him bolt up two back at Doomben. Then raced there again when off the speed and tried hard. Just failed to get there when a narrow third to Full Nelson, who ran super last time out, so the form reads well.

11 Ingear (Bet Now: $3.00) is a few weeks between runs for Tony Gollan since resuming with an all the way win at Eagle Farm. Good ticker shown by her because she was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure and was too good. Harder here, but she’s in the right camp and has the best rider in Brisbane steering.

3 Contemptuous (Bet Now: $2.40) has done little wrong this time in for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp and is hard to beat. He didn’t beat a great deal over 1000m at Eagle Farm last time but he took bad luck out of the equation, led, and he was miles too good. Back to Saturday grade, he’ll take beating.

8 Deference (Bet Now: $7.00) has pretty good form around him from his days with James Cummings so I think he has to be respected here. Gillian Heinrich now has him and his first run for the stable came on his new home track at the Gold Coast when well tried at odds and ran well I thought, finishing fourth to She Can Sing. Fitter and up to 1200m, he appeals.

9 Irish Sequel (Bet Now: $4.20) is a working progress for Chris Waller and is the one with the most upside/progression. Caught the eye fresh at Eagle Farm before stepping up to 1800m at the Gold Coast. Just left flat footed when the sprint went on but stayed to the task and was good late. He’ll eat up 2000m and is a key threat.

3 Spanish Point (Bet Now: $5.50) is hit and miss but his best is certainly good enough. Had a mini let up prior to racing at the Gold Coast where he was specked at a big price and the punters who had a slice of the good odds were rewarded with a strong win, helped by a peach from Ryan Maloney. Fitter, up in trip, he appeals.

1 Destiny’s Own (Bet Now: $26.00) won’t mind some give in the track. Racing well at the moment for Brenton Andrew that was backed with confidence last time out at Ipswich and under a lovely ride from Angela Jones, the gelding came with a well timed run and finished over the top. First four threat.

6 First Son (Bet Now: $8.50) looks a very progressive galloper for Garnett Taylor. Unbeaten in two career outings. Debuted with a strong win at Rockhampton. Proved that was no fluke when producing a strong finale from the back to win on his home track at the Sunny Coast. Harder here, but confident he measures up.

7 Makedon (Bet Now: $4.20) is becoming costly from a punters perspective but his best is certainly good enough to win. Backed as if unbeatable when racing here last Wednesday and to my eye, he was really plain, seemingly getting every chance. His best sees him win…but he’s burned too many holes for me to butter up.

Back to the mile I like for 3 Our Rebel (Bet Now: $5.50). Was wide early before pressing forward when racing over 1800m at the Gold Coast last time out and battled on gamely in defeat when fourth to Spanish Point. Drawn the rail, he’ll be near the speed and with a significant jockey upgrade, he’ll take beating.

8 So Taken (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Chris Waller trained mare that has returned in good order. Good late from the back fresh when fourth to Miami Fleiss, a mare that is flying at the moment. Raced again at Doomben and again was good from off the speed, this time behind Animate. That form reads well for this.

3 Supergiant (Bet Now: $7.00) has the quality to figure in the finish. Michael Costa trained four year old that has raced over 1350m here both runs back from a spell, the latest behind Ballistic Boy when back and working to the line pretty well without being a winning threat. I think he’s come back well and is a definite threat at his best.

7 Couldn’t Refuse (Bet Now: $15.00) should be suited up to the mile for Desleigh Forster. Ran over 1400m at the Gold Coast a fortnight back where he paraded like he would need the hit out after the first up run and that is how it panned out behind Samurai. Hard fit now, up to the mile, an improved showing is on the cards.

Jump and run please Michael Cahill aboard 16 The Face (Bet Now: $2.35). If indeed that eventuates, he has too much class for this lot. Ryan/Alexiou trained four year old that resumed at Randwick and was good in defeat from just off the speed when a close up fourth to Triple Ace. That form is known here given Triple Ace is a proven winner in Brisbane. Hard to beat if he finds the front despite drawing wide.

2 Ditmas (Bet Now: $19.00) hasn’t won in a little while but I don’t think he’s far off. Kept finding the line and chasing a fortnight back at the Gold Coast when a close up third to Weona Smartone. He’s racing well this time in and looks ready to win. Just keeps finding one or two better.

5 Kalik (Bet Now: $34.00) is suited up in trip I feel. Has raced over 1000m in both runs back from a break, resuming at the Sunny Coast behind Tavisan before going to Eagle Farm and doing a bit too much work in the run behind Je Suis Belle. His best is good enough so don’t ignore him.

5 Spaceboy (Bet Now: $3.60) looks the one to beat. Few weeks between runs since racing at Stakes level at Caulfeild when on speed and giving a mini kick, but tired late behind Masked Crusader. Back to this level and he’s a swimmer, so the wet track won’t be an issue if the rain comes.

1 The Odyssey (Bet Now: $7.00) should take beating here for Kelly Schweida. Market said he would need the run when resuming over 900m at the Gold Coast a fortnight back but he was quite good from off the speed when third to The Move. Loves the short course at Doomben and up on speed, he’ll take running down.

I think 3 Tavisan (Bet Now: $18.00) deserves another chance for Kris Lees. First run for the stable was an impressive win at the Sunny Coast over 1000m. Then came back to 900m at the Gold Coast and that jump/run style of race just isn’t his go. Better suited back up in trip and can bounce back.

2 Enterprise Pomme (Bet Now: $2.45) should prove hard to beat back to Brisbane. First and only run for the Ryan/Alexiou camp came in the Furious where she attempted to lead throughout and gave a bold sight. Just felt the pinch late but still a good effort when fourth to Jamaea. Back to this level, she’ll press forward and take beating.

6 Oriental Princess… (Bet Now: $16.00) where on earth did two weeks ago come from? Unwanted in betting when resuming over 1100m against some well performed types, but credit to her, she led throughout, was strong late and fended off her rivals. Off that, you’d think 1200m is fine. Question is can she repeat the dose?

1200m is a query with 4 Gemelon Bolt (Bet Now: $11.00) but does have an element of class on his side. He ran behind Oriental Princess two weeks back at the Gold Coast and was okay late, but never really a winning threat. Perhaps back to Doomben and a more aggressive steer, he can bounce back.
