SA Metro racing this Saturday heads to Gawler for an eight race program. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out two metres from the 900m-500m; True for the remainder.
Race 1. (13:06) Coopers Pacific Pale Ale Handicap (78) 1200m
3 Kenyan Wonder (Bet Now: $5.00) should be suited back up in trip. Was 1200m back to 1100m when racing at Gawler two weeks ago and she worked to the line pretty well, but was never really a winning threat behind Terbium, who won by five and was the standout win of the meeting. Back up in trip, Kenyan Wonder should prove hard to hold out late.
Paul Seater has 4 Miss Jane (Bet Now: $2.90) going well this time in. On the quick back up after racing on Boxing Day at Morphettville when a close up fourth behind impressive winner Symphonette, who had the A1 ground out wide and was too good. Has run well on the back up previously and finds a winnable race.
Was a very encouraging return by 1 Oamaru Owl (Bet Now: $3.90), who resumed over 1100m here a fortnight ago. Led at a solid enough clip and gave a stack of cheek from in front. Just couldn’t sustain it and tired late, but was able to cling on for a share of third spot behind dominant winner Terbium. If he can improve off that, he’ll be a leading contender here.
Race 2. (13:41) TAB Maiden Plate 1100m
4 Daily Spirit (Bet Now: $2.60) is knocking on the door to break her maiden tag. Macdonald/Gluyas trained filly that ran in a maiden here two weeks ago where she sat back off the pace and was very green when wanting to come wider. As she was doing that, eventual winner Outlaws Revenge stole a winning break, but Daily Spirit kept on. She can win this for sure and the jockey upgrade is significant.
The seven day back up with a horse that debuted isn’t an ideal recipe but do like the look of 7 Spinola Bay (Bet Now: $4.20). She debuted at Morphettville last Saturday when sitting back off the speed before presenting wider and looming large to win, just failing to finish it off when second to Impossible Action. If she can reproduce that effort here, think she goes very close.
8 Tanja’s Dream (Bet Now: $10.00) is suited back in trip I feel. Ran over 1400m last Wednesday at Oakbank where she seemed to get into a reasonable spot near the speed and she did try hard, but the seven furlongs was a bridge too far when fourth to Recognise. Back to 1100m I do like and she can run a cheeky race here.
Race 3. (14:16) Thank You Phil Mueller Maiden Plate 1505m
5 Montepulciano (Bet Now: $3.30) looks the standout on the card. Team Jolly trained three year old that was sent to Flemington three weeks ago in a benchmark race and was backed, opening $20+ before starting $10 and working home strongly late when third to Beltoro, who ran well behind a potential star in Ayrton last Saturday. That form just reads far superior to this lot.
2 Fighter (Bet Now: $2.30) has the potential to win, but upstairs, don’t think there is much doing. Looked his race on paper when he raced at Morphettville last Saturday but when Vorster asked for an effort, the response wasn’t there straight and instead just grinded away, missing out on picking up Thrill Kill. Up to 1500m I do like and is in the right camp.
Couldn’t back 4 Justedee (Bet Now: $11.00) to win but he’s a good thing to run top four. He’s consistent and runs honestly each time he steps out. Problem is he doesn’t win. Looked very well placed his past couple but just hasn’t attacked the line at all and been disappointing. He’ll run well here. Just not a win bet proposition.
Race 4. (14:51) Coopers Handicap (78) 1505m
7 Exalted Traveller (Bet Now: $3.80) is going for three on end and can definitely do it here. Loved the way he knuckled down to win two back at Morphettville before going to Strathalbyn where he stalked the speed before Caitlin Jones fed him clear air and away he went. Harder here, but have to like the way he is going about it.
1 Farooq (Bet Now: $4.00) is an interesting runner. Five weeks between runs for Sue Murphy since racing over the mile at Morphettville when back off the speed and working home nicely late when third to Black Syrah. He does have the class factor on his side and despite the break between runs, stable usually have them ready when they race at metro level.
6 Pretty Glass (Bet Now: $7.00) is racing so well for Jess Giles and is deserving of a win. Looked like it would come three weeks ago at Morphettville when looming large to win, but she couldn’t quite get there and had to settle for a second to Don’tdreamitsover. Off that effort, think she has to be rated highly here against this lot.
Race 5. (15:31) G&J Civil Handicap (56) 1200m
4 Khani Star (Bet Now: $4.80) looks really well placed here by Darren Magro. She won a 64 Final here two weeks ago, and was dominant in winning, and now drops to what looks a moderate 56 so she does look rather well placed to win again, but consistently winning hasn’t been her strong suit, so keen to see how she goes.
2 Turf Tapper (Bet Now: $6.50) has been a real model of consistency this time in for Shayne Cahill and I think he record another win on the board for the campaign. Ran last Wednesday at Oakbank when sitting off the pace before Stubby eased him into clear and he really attacked the line, just missing out on the win when second to Smart Alick. Hard to beat against these.
7 Get In The Bowl (Bet Now: $8.50) is eight years of age but is racing very well without winning this time in for the Shane Oxlade camp. Ran over 1200m at Strathalbyn a couple of Wednesdays back when sitting off the speed and working home okay without threatening when third. Not sure I could back him to win, but one for multiples.
Race 6. (16:11) Adelaide Plains Bloodstock Handicap (68) 1200m
2 Taken Off (Bet Now: $2.35) is bursting to win a race this prep and he gets his chance here. Just got stuck in the worst ground two back when resuming at Morphettville behind Just Chipping Away. He then raced here two weeks ago and really, should have bolted in. Just had no luck at all in the straight when full of running. Better luck here and think he wins.
7 Picargo (Bet Now: $4.00) is the map horse given he will sit behind likely leader Little Rich Boy. The query I have him with him is 1200m. Been on him his past two when he has raced at 1200m and IMO he’s had every chance, just hasn’t attacked the line. He gets the A1 run in transit to get every chance…can I back him to do it? Personally, no.
3 Tony’s Reward (Bet Now: $10.00) can win this. Macdonald/Gluyas trained gelding that had his first run for the new stable here two weeks ago. Sat back off the speed before peeling wider and presenting to win the race. Just found one too good in Ice Ghost. If he can reproduce his effort from the resumption, he’s right in the mix.
Race 7. (16:51) Holdfast Insurance Handicap (60) 1100m
8 Glory Game (Bet Now: $8.00) is racing in good form at the moment for the Macdonald/Gluyas team. Ran a few weeks ago at Morphettville where she was back and chasing a good speed. Got clear late and worked home well, but overall, thought she had her chance when third to Mayan. Hard to beat against this lot.
2 The Raven (Bet Now: $12.00) has done little wrong this time in and is a worthy threat. Kristi Evans trained gelding that put together two on the bounce, including one at Morphettville on the Parks track. Then went to Penola when third to Rhythmatic. Then raced here when near the speed from the inside gate and was good in defeat when a close up second to Exalted Gold. Racing well and is hard to beat.
11 Four Of A Kind (Bet Now: $9.50) is racing well for Phillip Stokes. Just can’t quite crack it for a win. Ran three weeks back at Morphettville when near the speed throughout and battled away well. Just couldn’t peg back Annika, who led throughout and was too good, albeit being on speed was certainly no disadvantage. Can win…but backing her to do it is another thing.
Race 8. (17:31) Kingsford Hotel Handicap (64) 2105m
1 Monteferrante (Bet Now: $3.90) looks the one with most upside and progression. Has the McEvoy polish and comes into this third up off the back of two strong runs to kick off her prep, the latest coming at the twilight meeting at Morphettville a couple of Fridays back when a closing third to Dazzling Damsel. Suited up in trip and the depth here, as a whole, is thin.
5 The Red Sea (Bet Now: $13.00) doesn’t exactly have gears but he is a stayer and will keep on. That’s what he tried to do two weeks ago here in a heat of the Southern Speed Series. He led at a good clip and gave his all. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Galahad Guru. He’ll try something similar here and look to pinch it.
3 Ace Attack (Bet Now: $15.00) can be hit and miss, but his recent efforts have been quite good. Last couple of runs have come at this track/distance, winning two back before racing behind Galahad Guru here a fortnight ago. He was chasing that genuine tempo and stayed on well to run third. He’s racing well and should be respected.
Race 9. (18:10) Terrace Function Centre Handicap (60) 1505m
Market will be fascinating with 4 Fox D’Or (Bet Now: $4.80). I think he has the most upside and progression of this lot, but it’s an interesting set up for his resumption. Hasn’t raced since May 13 when winning fresh, his maiden over 1700m here, getting better as the race went on and drawing clear late. One 1000m trial to get ready, but is in the right stable, draws well…if there’s market support, jump on with confidence.
15 Sharply Attired (Bet Now: $8.00) is knocking on the door to win one. She ran last Wednesday at Oakbank when back off the speed before trucking through nicely and Zechner looked to get her out in time to threaten. Just couldn’t quite get there when second to Zoustorm. Bursting to win a race and think this is well within reach.
7 Fight For Freedom (Bet Now: $7.50) hasn’t really run a bad this time in for Bill Bogarts and that was confirmed with a pretty dominant win here two weeks ago, sitting off a good speed before Tourneur asked him for the big effort and away he went, charging clear to win and win well. Off that, think he’s hard to beat against these.
