Race One (12:34pm) : Westspeed Plate 1650m: Form Guide
Back Me: Small field, but the race of the day. Kia Ora Koutou (Best Odds: $1.45) wasn’t suited by the slow tempo last time out, but he produced a brilliant finishing burst when clear to win with real class and authority. He looks well above average, and looks as though he will be strong at the end of the mile compared to the main threat, which is See Me Sizzle.
Big Danger: See Me Sizzle (Best Odds: $2.80) ran over 1400m here last Saturday and he was given a Pike special to get the job done, and he did it quite comfortably on the line, so I don’t think the mile will be an issue. Small field also helps.
Roughie: Juicing Carrots (Best Odds: $16.00) probably lacks the brilliance of the first two tips, but there was plenty to like about his win last start at Northam where he sat on speed most of the way and kept finding for a gritty win. He only carries 52kg on his back and is the knockout chance.

Race Two (1:13pm) : Westspeed Handicap 1000m: Form Guide
Back Me: Bombs Away (Best Odds: $2.10) led all the way on debut over this track/distance and won quite easily, and ran smart time for the journey. The lead looks his again, and it will take a smart one to beat him here IMO.
Big Danger: Loopy’s Ladies (Best Odds: $8.00) ran over 1200m here a couple of weeks back and tried hard, but just couldn’t quite finish the race off when a close second. Back to the 1000m is ideal and senior rider goes aboard.
Roughie: Delicate Miss (Best Odds: $15.00) resumes here for the Harrison yard after failing badly in the Karrakatta Plate, seemingly being outclassed. No trials for his return to racing, but 1000m is perfect and has gate one.

Race Three (1:53pm) : Irish Race Day 10th October Handicap (60+) 1200m: Form Guide
Back Me: Mississippian (Best Odds: $4.80) for me here. He resumed off a six month break over 1100m at Northam and just toyed with his rivals, winning ridiculously easy and ran very slick time for the journey. Pike sticks and despite drawn wide, he does have a booming finish on him.
Big Danger: Roma Fighter (Best Odds: $3.20) ran over 1000m here last start and was given a lovely front running steer from Peter Hall, with the galloper proving far too good for his rivals. Harder here, and is up to 1200m, but he is in form and strikes a winnable race.
Roughie: Chasing Chaos (Best Odds: $6.00) ran over this track/distance a couple of weeks back and finished off the race strongly late when second to Company Exchange. Probably has to improve a bit to win, but the speed will be on and that will suit this Steve Wolfe runner.

Race Four (2:33pm) : Return To Ascot 17th October Handicap (60+) 1200m: Form Guide
Back Me: Rare Delight (Best Odds: $5.00) resumed over this distance at Pinjarra a couple of weeks back and was afforded every chance from Pike and the Grant Williams trained runner got the bob of the head in a thrilling finish. Pike remains on, and with the run under the belt now, she should take good improvement and prove hard to beat.
Big Danger: Secret Minx (Best Odds: $4.00) resumes for Adam Durrant after a two run prep to kick off the career. Both runs came at Bunbury, starting off with a debut win before failing at Stakes level. Looked good in a recent barrier trial, draws well and is on the minimum weight for an in form rider.
Roughie: Bayella (Best Odds: $7.00) was wide no cover last start over this track/distance and fought on very gamely when a close up second to impressive winner Zuccheros. Draws well again and is in ripping form and will definitely be there at the finish.

Race Five (3:09pm) : Perth Racing Membership Handicap (72+) 1650m: Form Guide
Back Me: Looks a two horse race here between Halo Express (Best Odds: $2.80) and Galaxy Son. Leaning towards the topweight purely based on the Pike factor. He was ridden perhaps a touch too close to the speed last start but his class and the vigour of Pike got the horse him. I think he is better with a bunny to chase, and that should eventuate from the handy draw.
Big Danger: Galaxy Son stepped back in trip to 1400m last start and he closed off very strongly near the inside when third to Military Ruler. Senior rider back on now and up to the mile will really suit this horse to perfection.
Roughie: Dabang (Best Odds: $19.00) resumed in a good race at Kalgoorlie a couple of weeks back and wasn’t beaten far behind Western Blaze. His two trial wins leading up to that were pretty good, so don’t be surprised to see him improve here.

Race Six (3:47pm) : Corestaff Handicap (72+) 1200m: Form Guide
Back Me: As good as PIke is, he really slaughtered Woolibar (Best Odds: $4.80) last Saturday, and the horse really should have won but unfortunately he got stuck wide no cover. Pike is off, and that isn’t surprising, and though the horse is drawn wide again, with luck, he can beat these.
Big Danger: Battle Hero (Best Odds: $2.80) is a classy Stakes winner that resumes for Grant Williams. Best form is at the mile and beyond, but he looked forward enough in a recent Lark Hill trial to suggest he can run well fresh, and Pike is on.
Roughie: Petrol Power (Best Odds: $5.00) ran over this track/distance a couple of weeks back and tried his guts out when a close up second to the well above average sprinter Red Ora. No Red Ora, he is fit and gets in very well at the weights after the claim for Aaron Mitchell.

Race Seven (4:25pm) : Westspeed Stayers’ Bonus Handicap (60+) 2200m: Form Guide
Back Me: Really keen on the Adam Durrant up and comer, Caralabek (Best Odds: $3.50). He was most impressive in winning over 2000m last start at Pinjarra, charging home from the back to win like a horse going places. Pike sticks which is a good lead and this field isn’t overly strong.
Big Danger: Military Service (Best Odds: $6.50) looked a little unlucky when racing over this track/distance a couple of weeks back, getting badly held up near the inside and not being allowed to build up momentum. Little concerned that Jake Casey is not riding because he has sparked the horse into form, but nonetheless, he should prove tough to hold out late.
Roughie: Abebe (Best Odds: $8.00) was a 12 start maiden prior to his romp last start over this distance at Northam. Didn’t beat much, but he did it easily and now that he has got the win on the board, he can go right on with it.

Race Eight (5:00pm) : Vale Artie Barfield Handicap (66+) 1650m: Form Guide
Back Me: Coming Back (Best Odds: $3.60) steps back up to the mile after running over 1400m here a couple of weeks back when storming home to run a close second to Military Ruler. Draws to get a soft trip from the gate and Glenn Smith is riding in fantastic form.
Big Danger: The Director (Best Odds: $15.00) didn’t appear to handle the seven day back up last start when a battling fifth. He has had a two week back, and this does look a suitable target for him despite drawing wide and facing a strong field.
Roughie: Vanrippa (Best Odds: $4.00) ran over 1700m here a couple of weeks and was ridden close to the speed, but the horse just couldn’t quite finish it off when a close up fourth to Rare Selection. Back slightly in trip, and the good lead here is that Pike rides this gelding and not Coming Back.
