Blacktype racing returns to Morphettville this Saturday where it is W H Whylie Handicap Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:41) Eco Skip Hire (bm72) 1600m
Danny O’Brien looks to have found a very winnable Saturday metro race here with 3 Somerset Maugham (Bet Now: $2.10). Lane was very positive from the outset aboard this guy at Sale last time out over 1700m and he led throughout, bolting up in impressive fashion. Didn’t smash the clock as such but the depth here isn’t strong.
I think you can trust 1 Allusion (Bet Now: $3.40) to go back-to-back. Team McEvoy trained gelding who was very inconsistent when last in work, but resumed here three weeks ago and I liked his desire when getting clear late, attacking the line to win well. It’s a risk to gamble he’ll repeat that, but if he does, I think he wins again.
2 Ice Ghost (Bet Now: $8.50) has returned in pretty good order for the Gordon Richards stable. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1550m on the Parks track here and stuck on well in defeat, but overall, thought he had his chance when third to Allusion. He’s going well…does he have the killer blow to win at Saturday metro level?
Race 2. (13:16) Tab Mdn Plate 1200m
8 Quietly Discreet (Bet Now: $4.80) deserves another chance. Think Crowther rode her a bit warm when she resumed here two weeks ago, hunting up to hold the lead and the early burn just told late, tiring to run fourth. Think she’ll be much better with a bunny to chase and if that can eventuate here, she’ll take some beating.
2 Jonquest (Bet Now: $4.00) is on the seven day back up for the Macdonald/Gluyas team after racing last Saturday where when on speed throughout and he gave a decent enough kick under Stubby, but found Frankie Pinot too good on the day. The depth here looks strong, but he’s hard fit now with the two runs under the belt and is hard to beat.
1 Impossible Action (Bet Now: $13.00) looks to have his share of talent. Team Jolly trained three year old that debuted last Wednesday at Murray Bridge when jumping well to land on speed before taking the front early on in the straight. Gave a really good kick but was bloused late, finishing second. Has ability and got to be respected.
Race 3. (13:51) Furphy (bm64) 1600m
3 Karpool Khan (Bet Now: $17.00) is a handy four year old that had his first run for Kylie Huxtable on the Parks track two weeks ago when facing three rivals and while he was outclassed behind Aqudeuct, he was closing off strongly late, so off that, the rise to 1600m will suit, the bigger track is ideal and has more upside than most.
1 Cannot Be Serios (Bet Now: $7.00) is racing in good form this time in for Michael Hickmott, who has had a sparkling start to the new season. Impressive winner at this track/distance two back before racing on the Parks track when doing that little bit too much work on speed and feeling the pinch late. He’s going well and can bounce back.
8 Exalted Traveller (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Grant Young trained gelding who isn’t far off a win. Narrow second to Allusion on the Parks track two back before going to Murray Bridge last Wednesday when on a good speed and battled away well when second to Conconi. He’ll win one soon…can he win at Saturday level? Time will tell.
Race 4. (14:30) Adelaide Galvanising (bm58) 1050m
3 Chucky (Bet Now: $3.00) deserves another chance. I was keen on his chances when he ran three weeks ago on the Parks track, but just got a mile out of his ground and he was never a factor at all when down the track behind Skilled Bunch. Form prior suggested a win wasn’t far off, giving him another look against these.
11 La Vita (Bet Now: $5.00) isn’t the most reliable galloper going around but she’s got talent when right and strikes a winnable race to resume in. Stuart Gower trained mare that hasn’t raced since May 23 when down the track at Murray Bridge behind Rock Harbour after doing a stack of work in the run. Stable can get them read first up and this is a weak 58.
2 Ready Sunshine (Bet Now: $12.00) is five weeks between runs for Ryan Balfour after racing over 1100m on the course proper here. Was back and chasing right from the outset and really just couldn’t get involved in the race won by Deep Dive. Like him with fresh legs and if the tempo isn’t as hot this time around, he can bounce back.
Race 5. (15:06) Aami (bm60) 1200m
6 Carlaluisa (Bet Now: $9.50) can be a bit hit and miss but if she can sit closer in the run this time around, she’ll take some beating. I’d be willing to put a line through her run last Saturday here. Got back to near last in the run from the wide gate and was never really a factor behind Pindaric. Hopefully an sit closer in the run and if so, she’ll be dangerous.
Staying at six furlongs I find interesting with 4 Trident (Bet Now: $5.00) but have to respect a stable that has had a lethal start to the season. Made his Australian debut three weeks ago on the Parks track and I liked the way he found the line in defeat behind a promising one, So You Can. If this was 1400m, could almost be tempted to have him on top. Just back in trip is the query.
7 Woulda Thought So (Bet Now: $10.00) isn’t the most reliable galloper going around when it comes to winning but he’s usually around the mark and runs an honest race, which was the case when he was last seen, seven weeks ago, when third to Exalted Traveller. Couldn’t back him to win, but one for multiples. gets the Blinkers on first time and I think that can spark real improvement from this mare. Ran just over three weeks ago over the mile at Murray Bridge and worked home strongly late when third to Allaciato, beaten just under three lengths. Fresh legs and back to 1200m I find interesting so watch the market.
Race 6. (15:46) Spring Carnival At Morp.(bm68) 1100m
Great to see 1 Lakhani Rose (Bet Now: $5.00) back at the races and I think she can resume with a win. Have said for a couple of preps now that she’s blacktype quality but the stable have been very patient with her, keeping her to restricted company and benchmark races. Last raced over 1000m at Murray Bridge when run off her legs and given a very quiet steer, flashing late. Two jumpouts have been good and her turn of foot is superior to these.
5 Magic Sunset (Bet Now: $7.00) looks hard to beat for the Will Clarken camp. Had her first run for the new stable over 1000m on the Parks track two weeks ago and I loved the way she found the line late in the piece when a close up third to a progressive one, Taken Off. Think that form reads well and she should improve off that effort.
Fitter and up in trip are two big ticks for the Shane Oxlade trained 12 Lady Pavli Chenko (Bet Now: $14.00). This mare resumed in the Taken Off race from two weeks ago on the Parks track and she wasn’t too bad in defeat. Never a winning threat, but stayed on and was sound. Reckon she might need one more, but her best is good enough.
Race 7. (16:26) Zilzie (bm68) 2000m
3 Ace Of Clubs (Bet Now: $4.40) is racing in career best form for the Roslyn Day team and I think he can win again. Has won three of his past four, the latest coming three weeks ago on the Parks track when given a lovely ride by Claudia Lions and finishing best to nab Tatalina on the peg. He’s going super and think he can win again.
2 Tibetan (Bet Now: $4.40) jumps straight to 2000m but the Michael Hickmott stable is flying at the moment and I think has to be respected. Made his Australian debut in a 1500m maiden at Gawler where he was forced to race four wide for the trip yet despite that hard run, he kept finding under pressure and was too good. Good test here, but think he’s up to it.
The best version of 9 Resurge (Bet Now: $10.00) is capable. Loved the way he toughed it out to win and defy a notable betting drift first up at Murray Bridge. Then raced here four weeks ago and was too bad to be true when beating one runner home behind Muntham Missile. If he brings his best, he can win.
Race 8. (17:05) WH Wylie Qlty 1100m
5 Garner (Bet Now: $1.90) will be popular. The strike rate Gordon Richards has in Victoria is very good and Garner is likeable here. Resumed over 1100m at Caulfield three weeks ago and was really warming to the task late when a close up fifth to Diamond Effort. Narrow second when second up last prep in a Stakes race, and he does seem a real short course horse.
4 Ef Troop (Bet Now: $6.00) has class/quality and that will carry him a long way here. Team McEvoy trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since March 28 at Bendigo on Golden Mile Day when down the track behind impressive galloper Big Night Out. Two trials to get ready have been pleasing and looks ready to go fresh.
2 Snitzkraft (Bet Now: $17.00) is a very interesting runner. Phillip Stokes trained sprinter that needs a firm track, so the weather will determine how strong his chances are. He hasn’t raced for six weeks since running fourth to the well performed stablemate Octane down the Flemington straight. Tick over trial was good and his best is good enough. Just needs dry ground.
Race 9. (17:40) Pike & Joyce (bm72) 1100m
With 2 Magna Bella (Bet Now: $11.00) in the get out. Andrew Clarken trained mare that resumes after a two run prep during the Autumn Carnival, resuming with a strong third before having excuses in the Proud Miss and was spelled. Just one jumoout to get ready, but it came last Friday at Murray Bridge and I thought she went pretty well behind Behemoth.
3 One More Jack (Bet Now: $4.00) is an interesting runner. He was the find of last season in SA. He graduated from a Port Lincoln maiden to going on and winning multiple races in town before finishing a close up fourth in the Autumn Final when stretched out to 1400m. Just one quiet jumpout and trial to get ready, so I’d watch the market.
15 Thompson’s Reward (Bet Now: $6.00) is eligible for easier, but David Jolly has him going super and a win here wouldn’t totally shock at all. Ran two weeks back on the Parks track when given a 12/10 steer by Gatt and looked home, but was nabbed late by Taken Off. Steep class rise for him here, but he’s returned in good form.
