There was enough in the debut run of 5 Romero (Bet Now: $3.90) to suggest he can take this out. That debut came over 1000m here a few weeks ago. Just didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight nearer the inside and that cost him the win IMO when a narrow second. Up in trip, drawn out, he’ll be strong at the end.

Danger

4 Mix (Bet Now: $1.90) looks hard to beat in the opener. Brad Widdup trained three year old that resumed over 1200m at Kembla. Attempted to lead throughout and gave a solid kick I thought. Just couldn’t quite finish it off and was nabbed late by Canadian Spice. The knock is the overall time was slow relative to the day but he’s got upside and has that strong provincial form.

Long Shot

7 Undisturbed (Bet Now: $14.00) is a son of Anacheeva resuming for the astute Donna Scott yard. Hasn’t raced since his debut on the Riverside track at Wagga back in November when near the speed throughout and battled on well to run third despite every chance. Notable too was the alarming betting drift that day ($3-$4.8) yet still ran well. Trial was good and stable always has to be respected.

Race 2. (13:50) Carlton Draught Hcp (c2) 1000m

I just think 7 Elegist (Bet Now: $6.50) is the wrong odds at double figures. I’d have him around the $5.5-$6 mark. Henry Dwyer trained gelding that resumes with some pretty strong form lines behind him from last prep, some of it being subsequent metro form. Two jumpouts to get ready, he’ll park off a hot speed and hopefully gets the rub of the green in the straight.

Danger

Nothing wrong with the two runs back from a spell by 8 Nicci’s Song (Bet Now: $2.50). Sharp first up winner at Wagga before going to the Sapphire Coast when leading and was worn down late by Pindarra’s Dream in a race that rated super for the meeting, with a big gap to third. Lands near the speed and is hard to beat.

Long Shot

1 Theresabearinthere (Bet Now: $6.50) has super early toe. His problem is I can run faster than him the last 1000m. The way it sets up to my eye, especially with the booking of a 3kg apprentice, it’ll be jump and run. That is the best chance this horse has because that was when he was most effective when the Jolly camp had him in SA. He’ll lead…last few strides will be his test.

Race 3. (14:25) Adrian Ledger Memorial (bm66) 2400m

John Sargent will love getting 1 Prince Camelot (Bet Now: $9.00) onto a dry deck I dare say. He’s had six runs this prep and barring the first up run, they have all come on wet ground. He has run well, just hasn’t been effective enough to win and I’m putting that down to the wet ground. Much better horse on top of it and he gets conditions to suit here.

Danger

2 Sinamay (Bet Now: $3.40) is a definite query at a strong 2400m but should get run of the race stuff from the inside draw to give herself every chance. Ran over 2000m at Wangaratta last time out when on speed and fighting on strongly when second to a Maher/Eustace mare, Chaska. If she can run the trip out, she’s a leading chance.

Long Shot

6 Wadeema’s Girl (Bet Now: $8.50) is flying for the Ledger team and they’d love to win this race for obvious reasons. She has won her past two and a truly run 2400m will be ideal for her. Impressive winner two back at Werribee over 2800m before coming back 400m in trip at Moe and winning again in good style. Kept on ice with this race in mind and is a winning threat for sure.

Race 4. (15:05) Dlg Aluminium & Glazing (bm58) 1175m

14 Bluetooth (Bet Now: $5.00) must be showing something at home because she is a seven year old mare only having start seven here. Broke the maiden tag at Werribee last time and she was impressive, with sustained speed coming to the fore and she was dominant. Should lead this field up and prove hard to run down.

Danger

15 Miss Venezuela (Bet Now: $4.80) commands respect for the Hayes/Dabernig team. This girl took a little while to break her maiden status but it came at this track/distance, with a positive ride from McDougall seeing her bolt up in good style. Harder here, but she’s got the right racing pattern to give herself every chance.

Long Shot

7 Jet Jackson (Bet Now: $10.00) is an interesting runner. Resumed in a 58 at Benalla and was heavily backed at odds, into as short as $6.50 from $12 before eventually starting $7.50. He sat off the speed before McNeil got him clear air and he surged hard late to win and win well. If he can hold a decent spot from the gate, he’ll be in the finish.

Race 5. (15:40) Albury Guineas 1400m

1 Easy Campese (Bet Now: $5.50) can run a positive race here. John Sargent trained three year old that was second up in the Hobartville where he found that top tier three year olds a bit much, running last behind Aegon. Better suited here I feel and third up, should just about be at peak fitness.

Danger

4 Impressive Lass (Bet Now: $3.20) is in a real purple patch at the moment for Clare Cunningham, winning her past two. Broke the maiden tag two back at Wyong before racing on Canberra Cup Day when on speed throughout and she was strong, as you’d expect being by Real Impact. Confident she can measure up here.

Long Shot

Whatever 2 Azaly (Bet Now: $7.00) does here, he will improve on, but he has enough quality to give it a shake I’d suggest. Hasn’t raced since the Geelong Classic in the Spring when a narrow second to Confrontational. Dare say has eyes on the SA Derby, so likely to get back but be strong at the end.

Race 6. (16:15) Flat Knacker 900m

I’m with 5 Cardiff (Bet Now: $2.30). Kody Nestor has done a good job with this horse since taking over, winning fresh at Canterbury before racing there again and just feeling the pinch late when fourth to Lunar Tramp. Dry ground, fresh legs, 900m, an inside draw…I think he’ll be too nippy for this lot.

Danger

Blaike McDougall does seem to get the best out of 7 Bombdiggity (Bet Now: $7.50). Certainly got the best out of him fresh to win at Wagga. He then went to the Kenso track where Hugh Bowman jumped on. Led and fought on strongly when fourth to Coco Cuber. Hard to beat I’d suggest in a race like this.

Long Shot

9 Prairie Fire (Bet Now: $7.00) is certainly good enough if he’s within range. Danny Williams trained gelding that resumes and you look at his Spring form, gee he was good without winning. Far from disgraced in the Concorde/Shorts, far from disgraced in the Kosciuszko…any hint of that being produced here and he’d bolt up. Just where he gets to from the draw.

Race 7. (16:50) Albury Cup 2000m

2 Mahamedeis (Bet Now: $3.80) is flying for Nick Ryan and think he’s a near good thing. Was good late fresh behind stablemate Regardsmaree before going to the fast run Blamey where he was again an eye catcher at the end behind Star Of The Seas. Third up, hard fit, up to an ideal trip, he looks the one, clearly.

Danger

The Canberra track during the Carnival was disgraceful. Either you could handle it or not. 6 Entente (Bet Now: $3.70) didn’t handle it but he still fought on very well in defeat I thought in the Canberra Cup when fourth to Mr Marathon Man. Back on a more suitable track, he can bounce back for sure.

Long Shot

16 Huntly Castle (Bet Now: $23.00) lacks the class of some of these but he comes here in form. Just too far back two back at Caulfield before going to Wagga over 1800m where he sat off a slow speed before McDougall got going to get him into the race and he dashed right away late to win by a space. Harder here, but does no work from the draw and off last run, 2000m should be fine.

Race 8. (17:30) Lexus Of Wodonga Hcp (c3) 1500m

Back Me

I’m pretty keen here on 8 Temoin Chaud (Bet Now: $4.40) in the get out. Nick Olive trained mare that resumed over 1200m at Wagga and she was impressive, showing good change up speed when Billy Owen asked her to go and she was strong to the line, running good overall time as well. Fitter, up in trip, down in the weights…she’ll take running down.

Danger

6 Swagger (Bet Now: $3.70) does look a key threat. Just a matter of where he gets to in the run from a tricky draw. Was bursting to win one and it finally came last time out over 1400m here, sitting just off the pace before Jordan Mallyon eased him into clear air and he produced a good turn of foot. If he’s within range on the turn, he can win.

Long Shot

9 Post Free (Bet Now: $11.00) is the knockout chance, especially if she can sit closer in the run from the good draw. Resumed in a Highway at Rosehill and just got too far back but was good late behind Blue Missile, who has won again to frank the form. If the barrier is used to advantage, think she’ll be dangerous.
