The Brisbane Summer Carnival continues on Saturday at Doomben with blacktype racing the focus towards the Magic Millions. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:23) Brc Giddy Up Club Rb Hcp (70) 1050m
5 Derulo (Bet Now: $2.70) is a fascinating runner. North Queensland young gun that is now with John Smerdon. Was simply too good for them when racing at Townsville/Cairns, winning four of his five starts with a narrow second in there as well. Market will tell you if he’s ready. If he’s backed late, then I’d be jumping on the bandwagon.
3 Tracy May (Bet Now: $5.00) is certainly capable with her best. Four weeks between runs since racing at the Sunny Coast when off the speed and working to the line nicely late when fourth to Veranes in a race where the form looks strong, especially with Gee Tee Tee bolting up last Saturday. She’s closing in on a win and could well come here.
Lauren Doyle has done a very good job with 1 Mort Doyle (Bet Now: $8.50) this time in. He ran over this track/distance three weeks ago when back near last in the run and making up good ground late in an eye catching effort behind Gin ‘N’ Bitters. If he can sit a pair or two closer in the run, think he’ll be dangerous against these.
Race 2. (13:58) Gallopers Sports Club Hcp (c6) 1615m
3 Mount Tabora (Bet Now: $4.80) looks to be enjoying life in Queensland under the care of Team Edmonds. Trialled up in good order and confirmed that trial wasn’t a one off. Did a bit of work in the run and fought on quite gamely in defeat I thought behind Beachbreak. He’ll improve off that and with a more positive ride can take this out.
7 So Dapper (Bet Now: $3.10) is a capable galloper in town when right. Think he’s not far off that based on his win at the Sunny Coast just under two weeks ago. Near the speed throughout, looked to be bolting, and once the button was pressed, away he went, bolting up to win and win well. Off that effort, has to be respected here.
4 Picka Plum (Bet Now: $4.60) looks to have returned in strong order for Paul Jenkins. The resumption behind Tokoriki Lad had merit to it prior to racing over this track/distance a fortnight back where she had good specking at odds and under a lovely ride from Fradd, she was able to wear down Full Nelson in a sprint home. Going well and is hard to beat.
Race 3. (14:33) Abbie Sweeper (bm75) 1200m
5 Gin ‘N’ Bitters (Bet Now: $4.20) looks progressive and think she can win again. Looked in a bit of trouble when she raced here three weeks ago but knuckled down late and in the end, it was class that got her home. That was her first run in five weeks, so you’d like to think there is room for improvement, and she does have a touch of quality.
10 Pull Anchor (Bet Now: $8.00) is in very consistent form at the moment for Tony Gollan and is deserving of a city win. Ran last time out at the Gold Coast over 1200m, chasing strongly but having to settle for another placing, this time behind Malawi Gold. Back to Mares grade I do like for her and stable is in form. Leading chance.
12 Courting Verity (Bet Now: $7.00) rises a bit in depth/grade but Troy Pascoe has got her going super at the moment and deserves a crack in town. She has won three on the bounce, the latest coming at Rockhampton when tucked in behind the speed before angling clear late and charging away for a dominant win. She can measure up to these.
Race 4. (15:12) Sky Racing Qlty 2020m
2 So You Win (Bet Now: $4.00) is flying for Chris Waller and I think he can win again. Close up second to Ballistic Boy two back at the Sunny Coast before stepping back up to 2000m here two weeks ago and his class got him home in wearing them down late. Creeping up in the weights, but is holding his form really well and seems to be loving life in Queensland.
5 Get Stuck In (Bet Now: $4.40) is working up to a win. Tony Gollan trained gelding that ran over this track/distance a fortnight ago where he had the suck run in behind the speed. Got out in time and looked the winner but was nabbed late by a very much in form So You Win. He’s got upside to come and that run last time out should hold him in good stead for this.
7 A Man To Match (Bet Now: $10.00) is ticking along beautifully towards the Magic Millions Stayers. Given the race shape, had no hope of winning when racing here two weeks back, but liked the way he finished his race off behind So You Win. If he can sit a pair or two closer in the run this time around, think he’ll be dangerous.
Race 5. (15:52) Brc Membership Plus Plate (c3) 1350m
15 Lot’s Wife (Bet Now: $5.50) is a talented mare and think she can continue her winning ways. Resumed at the Gold Coast at the midweeks where she was near the speed throughout. Pushed for an effort and responded. Was there to be beaten but found under pressure and was too good. Like the way she goes about it and can win this for sure.
9 Magic Conqueror (Bet Now: $4.40) has been given a seven week let up since sitting on speed and getting the job done over the mile here in a 3YO race. Freshened up back to 1350m against the older horses is an ask, but he gets a lovely barrier to use and Michael Rodd has taken little time to find his groove back home.
The best version of 16 Miss Penfold (Bet Now: $11.00) is certainly capable. Kelly Schweida trained mare that resumed over 1350m here three weeks ago when getting a suck run just behind the speed and battled away okay without threatening behind Beachbreak. You’ll think she’d come on from that and she does have quality when she brings her best.
Race 6. (16:32) Tab Venue Mode (bm75) 1200m
11 Global Citizen (Bet Now: $2.60) is heading in the right direction for the Edmonds camp. Has won his past three, and is 2/2 this prep. Won over 900m fresh before stretching out to 1100m when on speed and too good. Has been given a good grounding for this 1200m assignment and hard to knock a horse with a picket fence.
1 Snowzone (Bet Now: $9.50) has been up forever it seems but he gets a decent enough set up here to bounce back into some level of positive form. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he was back in the run and failed to come on behind Racecourse Road. Blinkers back on, wet track, genuine tempo…he’s nearly $20 in early betting, which I find silly.
7 Raging Pole (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Team Sears trained gelding that was somewhat out of form but he bounced back in a big way when winning at Ipswich last Wednesday. He was back off the speed and under riding, seemingly going nowhere, but he picked up, surged hard late and was able to get up and win. Think he can measure up against these.
Race 7. (17:12) Roku Gin (bm85) 1110m
11 Miss Iano (Bet Now: $15.00) can run a cheeky race here at odds. She ran over 1200m at Pakenham two weeks ago where she was back near last in the run and never really threatened, but did make up some headway late in a pretty good effort. Much better suited here and she does have a touch of quality about her when right.
16 Ruuca… (Bet Now: $3.20) oh he’s a bludger. So hard to follow and trust with confidence. He threw away any chance first up behind Skins but didn’t have time to think a few weeks ago here and the result was a strong win. His best would see him measure up as a Stakes class horse, but he is just so loose upstairs. Hard to beat here.
Very interesting that 1 Akasaki (Bet Now: $35.00) backs up a week later. He ran last Saturday in the Bribie where he was really well specked late at odds and he ran on strongly to finish fifth to Usmanov. The set up this week, despite dropping sharply in grade and depth, is worse, but you’re getting a decent price once again.
Race 8. (17:52) Gold Edition Plate 1200m
Hard to get away from 11 Isotope (Bet Now: $1.80). Times aren’t everything, but from two weeks ago, the Mode Plate rated much, much better than the Winning Rupert hence why I feel the fillies will dominate here, and this girl. I was against her in the Mode Plate, and was pretty much the only one in Australia to have that thought process. She gave them a spanking and did it without really being extended. She’s got more to come and clearly is the one to beat.
9 Away Game (Bet Now: $3.80) is a fascinating runner. Magic Millions winner from January that makes her long awaited return to racing. Injury and setbacks meant she missed the Spring, but has been prepped right up for Magic Millions 2021. Liked her recent Rosehill trial and she is the class runner of the field. Hard to beat.
Very interested in 5 Batangas Entry (Bet Now: $34.00), who resumes for Kelly Schweida. Put together a couple of really sharp wins during the Spring, firstly at at the Gold Coast before an impressive win here. Been kept on ice to potentially target Summer riches and his two trials to get ready have been quite good. Market will be fascinating to see what it does with him.
Race 9. (18:30) Lough Neagh Stakes 1350m
7 Chapter And Verse (Bet Now: $23.00) for me. Desleigh Forster trained gelding who looks to be ticking along beautifully towards the Magic Millions. Resumed in the George Moore two weeks ago where he was a bit flat footed when the sprint went on, but picked up and was good late behind Hard Empire. Three time second up winner and was an eye catcher in this race last year. Hard to beat.
Class will carry 4 Outback Barbie (Bet Now: $3.30) a long way. This Tony Gollan mare comes through the George Moore where she just didn’t have the speed in the legs to go with them when the sprint went on, but liked the way she found the line. She’s racing as if the 1350m will be ideal and should come on from that run.
Like 3 Tambo’s Mate (Bet Now: $9.50) up to 1350m. He comes through the George Moore where he had to do a power of work to get near the speed and despite that, he tried his guts out when fourth to Hard Empire in an excellent effort. Like him up to 1350m and if he can get on speed without spending too many petrol tickets, he’ll take some beating.
