Ipswich will host their biggest race day this Saturday for Ipswich Cup Day, a ten race program with good quality. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out half a metre for the entire circuit.
Ipswich Cup π: View the Field and Odds for the Ipswich Cup
Race 1. (11:43) Sirromet Wines Bundamba Plate 2150m
5 Honey Pot (Bet Now:Β $1.90) could have claims to being one of the better maidens going around. Resumed in the Bill Carter and she was a real eye catcher from the back behind Stroll, beate just under a length. She is Stakes class for sure and is bursting to win a race. She should get that win here.
8 Saweetie (Bet Now:Β $10.00) commands respect. Solid on speed win tw back at the Sunny Coast before going to the Bill Carter where they rode her with a sit and was solid late behind Stroll. Her form is exposed somewhat, but she has the runs on the board to give this a shake.
7 Hattusa (Bet Now:Β $20.00) is a knockout hope. She ran two weeks back on the bog at the Gold Coast and she was off the bit before the turn, but Tiff Brooker kept her balanced, she surged and put them away to win well. Has solid form around her, so she’s in with a shout at a price.
Race 2. (12:18) Schweppes T.L. Cooney 1350m
1 Subterranean (Bet Now:Β $4.80) is an improver at odds for Matty Dunn. Ran several weeks back at Scone where he just couldn’t get involved given the race shape, a leader dominated affair won by Redoute’s Image. His best is good enough and finds a winnable race if he brings any hint of it.
5 Indiscreetly (Bet Now:Β $2.90) is a Danny Bougoure trained filly that resumes. She hasn’t raced since the Magic Millions Guineas when producing an end of prep run when down the track behind King Of Sparta. Three trials leading in, the market will be fascianting to see what it does with her.
2 Hamlet Von Snitzel (Bet Now:Β $3.30) can bounce back. He was thrown in the deep end in the QLD Day at Eagle Farm and while he was never a winning threat, his finale was solid enough behind a very much in form Godolphin horse, Athelric. Back to this level, he appeals.
Race 3. (12:53) Channel Seven Stayers (Bm78) 1200m
3 Read My Future (Bet Now:Β $2.70) is heading in the right direction for Annabel Neasham. He has won his past two, both on the Poly at the Sunny Coast and each time he has been dominant. Good test for him here, but he’s in the right camp and overall, this isn’t a strong race.
2 Accessory (Bet Now:Β $6.00) has to be rated as one of the hardest to beat. Narrow second to an in form Street Dancer two back at Doomben before backing that up with a dominant win over 2400m at the Sunny Coast where he was given a peach by Jaden Lloyd and duly saluted in good style. Off that, 2500m is fine and is one of the hardest to beat.
8 Neptune’s Choice (Bet Now:Β $20.00) has more upside than most and I think is suited up in trip. Ran in the Accessory race from the Sunny Coast and while he was never a threat, he was far from disgraced in defeat behind the Sweeney trained stayer. Not sure he wins, but one for exotics.
Race 4. (13:28) Gt Northern Ipswich Mile-Rs1ly 1666m
7 Olympic Class (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is the straight bat option for Michael Morrison. This gelding is on the seven day back up after winning last Saturday at the Gold Coast where he lumped 59.5kg to win and win well over the 1800m. Tumbles to 52.5kg, he maps ideally and will be strong at the end.
Back in trip I do like for 8 He Is (Bet Now:Β $10.00). He ran over 2000m at Doomben last start and he just found the ten furlongs a bridge too far behind Kipling’s Journey. Back to the mile is a positive and his previous form suggests he can measure up in a race like this. Respecting for sure.
1 Glen Ord (Bet Now:Β $21.00) is rising ten, but gee he’s maintaining a healthy zest for racing. Was big odds when racing over the mile at the Sunny Coast last start and despite the big SP, he was impressive in gapping his rivals. That was a weak 75, and there is more depth here, but he’s genuine and can be around the mark.
Race 5. (14:03) River 949Fm Hcp (C6) 1100m
I want to give 8 Orbisyn (Bet Now:Β $3.20) another chance. David Vandyke trained gelding that was a notable late drifter in betting when resuming at Doomben and the market got it spot on. He really struggled on the bog track in a total forgive I feel. I think on top of the ground, he can run a much improved race and his best sees him measure up.
2 Skins (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is a stablemate of Orbisyn that can be a big improver second up. He resumed at this track/distance where I thought he was a good thing but he just looked like he needed the run when third to Dragon Miss. I think that was a prep run for this, then potentially two weeks time on the home deck at the Sunny Coast, so he’s a market watch for sure.
5 Goldsborough (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is a Gary Duncan trained gelding that resumes. This talented animal hasn’t raced since July 11 last year when a game second at the Sunny Coast behind Eloquently. Interesting he resumes without a trial but he has the quality to run a beauty fresh.
Race 6. (14:38) Ray White Ipswich Hcp 1100m
12 Yes Dream… (Bet Now:Β $6.50) how good is he? North Queenslander that is unbeaten in five career outings, the latest coming over 1300m at Townsville when smashing the clock from on speed with a big weight. Back to 1100m I find interesting, but I always respect these horses from the North that have a high winning strike rate.
6 Coco Rox (Bet Now:Β $3.90) has the runs on the board to give this a shake. Close up third two back in the Denise’s Joy at Scone before going to Caulfield where she was brave in defeat behind the very impressive Winning Verse. She’ll jump on the bunny and prove hard to get past.
15 Nord Lyon (Bet Now:Β $12.00) can bounce back. Thrown in the deep end last start in the QLD Day and while he was never a threat, I thought he was far from disgraced in defet behind Athelric. Back miles in grade/depth and back to 1100m, an improved shwing is on the cards I feel.
Race 7. (15:13) Ipswich Cup 2150m
Each way for me in the shape of 10 Youngblood (Bet Now:Β $11.00). He is a dead set stayer that will keep batting away and will want to make this a staying contest. Sit/sprint didn’t suit at Eagle Farm behind Bartholemeu Dias so be forgiving. He was a month between runs and back in trip. Now back up in trip, fitter, he’ll run well at a price I’d suggest.
3 Bartholemeu Dias (Bet Now:Β $5.00) looks like he is enjoying life under the care of Annabel Neasham. Wasn’t too bad fresh at Rosehill behind Night Of Power before going to Eagle Farm two weeks ago where he got a peach from Lloyd, drove hard between runners and once he got clear air, away he went, and he was dominant. Hard to beat here.
13 Ostermeier (Bet Now:Β $34.00) has a fab track/distance record and appears to have been set for the race. Dominant win three back over 2200m at Eagle Farm. Given a mini break and has had two prep runs with this race in mind, the latest behing Bartholemeu Dias. One for wider exotics.
Race 8. (15:53) Eye Liner Stakes 1350m
5 Vinco (Bet Now:Β $4.50) is a track/distance winner and the stable loves to target this race. He was a strong winner of the Spear Chief two weeks ago when getting a suck run behind the speed and showing good change up speed when clear to win and win well. Fast run 1350m, he’ll be strong late and is hard to beat.
3 Holyfield (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is a hard horse to catch but he brings strong form lines. He ran a game fourth in the BRC Sprint and of course that form produced Alligator Blood, the Stradbroke winner last Saturday, so that clearly reads well for this. He is one of the main winning chances.
15 Palladas (Bet Now:Β $6.50) needs luck from the gate but he’s racing really well. Looked all over a winner last start at Eagle Farm but he had no answers late for the finale from Francesco Guardi. If he drew an inside gate, he’d go close. Just not sure where he gets to from the gate, but with luck, a knockout chance.
Race 9. (16:37) Gai Waterhouse Classic 1200m
5 Tahitian Dancer (Bet Now:Β $4.60) is bursting to win a Stakes race for Tony Gollan. Has placed in the Bright Shadow and Helen Coughlan her past couple, the Helen Coughlan being a fast finishing third to Najmaty. She’s been purchased to win at Stakes level and I think she gets a great chance.
8 Tycoon Evie (Bet Now:Β $8.00) was scratched from the Dane Ripper last Saturday to be saved for this. She resumed in the Helen Coughlan and was quite good from near last in the run behind Najmaty. She can settle much closer in the run and off that return, she’ll take beating.
18 Glitter Strip (Bet Now:Β $18.00) is a talented mare when right and I think she has returned in pretty good order. Resumed over 1200m at Doomben and was good late from off the speed when second to The Big Goodbye. Winner at the track and with a good speed in front, she’ll get her chance to launch late.
