Nine races have been set down for Belmont this Saturday where it is Belmont Guineas Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:59) Happy 70Th Costa Madaschi 2Yo 1000m
1 Rumour Says (Bet Now: $1.70) looks above average and I think she can make it 2/2. Lot of quality about her debut win two weeks ago here when producing the best last 600/400/200 of the race in beating up a handy field, which included Revitup. If she can overcome the tricky gate, she’s the one to beat.
2 Secrecy (Bet Now: $10.00) is a So Secet gelding that is on debut. He’s 2/2 at the trials to get ready for start one and each time he has looked pretty sharp. Sharp enough for a debut win in town? Not sure, but he does command respect in what is a competutuve race.
8 Feels Playful (Bet Now: $14.00) can be an improver off the trials. She debuts for Mitch Pateman and was just fair in the frist trial, but the second trial saw the Blinkers applied and she ran an improved race when second. Good gate with the claim, she is one for wider exotics.
Race 2. (14:34) Free Entry To Belmont Pk-Bm72+ 2200m
8 Reliable Star (Bet Now: $2.90) looks the good thing on the program. Adam Durrant trained mare who looks to have returned in super order. Ran over the mile here two weeks ago…well, techincally it was a run, but it was a barrier trial pretty much. She had zero luck in the straight and went to the line under a hold. Up in trip, upside, quality…looks her race.
3 Baramagic (Bet Now: $9.00) will jump on the bunny and give a sight. Ran over this track/distance a fortnight back where he led at a crawl and kicked strongly, only getting bloused near the peg by Prince Turbo, who is flying this time in. He’ll be in front and looking the winner. Last bit will test.
6 Gunnago (Bet Now: $15.00) saves his best for Belmont and I do think a rise in distance helps his cause. He is three weeks between runs since racing over the mile here where he got back in a slowly run race and was good late without threatening. Not sure he wins, but a first four contender.
Race 3. (15:09) Tabtouch-Wspeed Platinum-Rs0ly 1400m
Having a throw at the stumps in the shape of 8 Baby Blues (Bet Now: $21.00). Her recent numerical form suggests she is no hope but her last couple have come at the mile and IMO I think 1600m sees her out at this level, which is why back to 1400m is a big positive for her, and overall, this is a very thin race.
9 Glamour Packed (Bet Now: $5.50) can bounce back for Colin Webster. I’d be forgiving of her last start plain effort. I reckon they rode her a touch too warm and it backfired, with the mare failing to finish it off. With a more conservative steer, you’ll see a better performance from a capable mare.
7 Lady Duckworth (Bet Now: $21.00) is a mare better suited over further but she can run a positive race fresh. She resumes, having not raced since Jan 24 when down the track behind a very handy stayer, Come Right Back. Thought the trial was a solid piece of work and while she might need the run, wouldn’t be shocked if she snuck a first four spot.
Race 4. (15:49) Amelia Park (Bm62+) 1200m
2 Sniparoochy (Bet Now: $3.40) looks the safe option. She’s on the seven day back up after racing over 1300m here last Saturday where she was near the speed throughout and tried her guts out but couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow second got Seduce Me. Back to 1200m, maps well, hard to beat.
6 Colossal (Bet Now: $4.80) has done little wrong in a three start career for Grant Williams. Won the opening two outings before coming back to 1000m two weeks ago and he surged hard late from off the speed when a narrow second to Beads. Up to 1200m again, he’s a leading chance.
7 Acefire (Bet Now: $21.00) is a son of Ready For Victory that resumes for Roy Rogers. He hasn’t raced since Feb 19 over 1100m at Ascot when down the track behind the then in form Via Monte. Interesting he resumes without a public trial but have to respect the stable.
Race 5. (16:29) Crown Perth (Rs1mw) 1400m
6 Galactic Storm (Bet Now: $3.40) comes back to 1400m for Adam Durrant after racing over the mile four weeks ago here and really, it was essentially a barrier trial for him. He had zero luck in the straight and clearly should have finished closer. Back in trip with fresh legs looks okay and he does have more upside/progression than most engaged here. Happy to be in his corner.
2 Stylax (Bet Now: $5.50) has come back in really good order for Fred Kersley. 2/3 this time in, with Pinjarra wins being split by a close up fourth here behind Warm N Fuzzy. That form line reads well for a race in town and he gets an ideal, so I think he’s certainly in as a key threat.
Fitter and up to 1400m are two big ticks for 4 Devine Beast (Bet Now: $15.00). Roy Rogers trained gelding that resumed over 1200m here at the midweeks and was very good from the back when a close up third to Bourbon Beau. Harder here, but got good upside and will be strong late.
Race 6. (17:05) Ascend Sales Trophies (Bm78+) 1400m
I’ll bank on 2 Last Of The Line (Bet Now: $11.00) getting back to somewhere near his best. He was being a prepped up for a Railway when last in work but was spelled after a plain effort in the Northerly. Been given a good break and has trialled up very nicely. If he runs to his best, he wins.
6 Watch Me Dance (Bet Now: $4.60) hasn’t won in a long time, but this is one of the easier races she has contested in some time. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago and was pretty good from near last behind a quality three year old, Otheroneson. Hard to beat if the inside gate is used to advantage.
7 Media Baron (Bet Now: $20.00) can be an improver with a more genuine tempo. He ran over the mile here last start where the tempo was a crawl but he failed to fire a shot and was rather plain late in the piece. Runs prior suggested a win was near and I think with a good speed in front, he’ll run a better race.
Race 7. (17:40) Belmont Guineas 1600m
3 Otheroneson (Bet Now: $2.90) has to be on top for me. Massive win from him two weeks ago here. He was wide no cover for the trip, back in the field, hot speed, taking on older horses…he was entitled to weaken but he actually surged and savaged the line to win. He’s a beauty and have to be in his corner.
1 Devoted (Bet Now: $2.80) is a really good horse for Michael Grantham. His win a fortnight back in the Raconteur was massive given it was a sharp class rise from the first up win and more, the saddle slipped, yet he still won. He’ll love the rise to the mile and is one of the hardest to beat.
7 Be Optimistic (Bet Now: $34.00) deserves a crack at a race like this. Not sure she beat much at Pinjarra last start but the change up speed she produced when let down was quite impressive. Good test for her here, but she has the turn of foot to be competitive.
Race 8. (18:15) Tabtouch-Better Your Bet-Bm72+ 1600m
2 Billy Ray (Bet Now: $3.90) has really found his career best and the key might be getting to Belmont, where he is building an imposing record. Ran over 1400m here last Saturday where he got the suck run behind the speed before CJP got clear air and he drove hard late to win. 1600m should be fine and finds a winnable 72+.
12 Power Of St George (Bet Now: $11.00) is another that has a good record at the track and that trend continued two weeks ago where he sat back in the run before peeling wider into clear air and letting down hard to win nicely. That was a weak 0MWLY race, so rises in grade/depth, but good track record and winning form sees him in the mix.
8 Crescent City (Bet Now: $18.00) can bounce back. He’s had two runs back from a spell. Close up third to Billy Ray fresh before racing here last Saturday where he had the suck run behind the speed but found zero and was quite plain. He’s too consistent of a horse to sack off that effort.
Race 9. (18:50) Peninsula Dining Room (Bm66+) 1000m
On speed, back to 1000m, I am in the corner of 2 Nowhiteflag (Bet Now: $4.80). Ran over 1200m here two weeks ago where he led and he looked the winner but was run down late when third to Startrade. His best has come at 1000m and with Paul Harvey aboard, he’ll take beating from the front.
1 Beads (Bet Now: $4.40) is a beauty for Steve Wolfe and he does save his best for 1000m. Took on his own age at this track/distance a fortnight back where he had a suck run behind the speed and finished best to win and win well in a good return. Takes on the older horses, but he’s a very genuine animal.
6 Trevern (Bet Now: $12.00) deserves another look. Resumed three weeks back where he was part of a solid early speed and that early burn fresh just told late when down the track behind Eeyore Wayz. Good second up record and with a more economical run, he’ll run a much improved race.
