The two day Scone Carnival concludes this Saturday with a bumper ten race card. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out three metres from the 800m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.

Race 1. (11:05) Yalumba Midway (Bm72) 1700m
4 Magnatear (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quirky animal but he has an engine under the hood. Sam Kavanagh trained gelding that ran on Anzac Day on the Kenso and the quirkiness was on display in the straight because he tried his best to throw the race away but Nash stood over him and lifted him late to win. Good test here, but confident he measures up.
12 Karmazone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1700m. Daniel Robinson trained gelding that resumed in the Midway a fortnight back over 1500m at Hawkesbury. He got back a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, I really liked his finale in a pleasing return. Might want one more and 2000m, he appeals.
10 Philipsburg (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for James Ponsonby. He resumed on that very testing Randwick track on All Aged Day, far from disgraced, before going to Hawkesbury where he was solid late but seemingly his chance. Hard fit now and this isn’t an overly deep Midway.
Race 2. (11:40) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1600m
10 Monte Outlander (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth an each way play. Noel Mayfield-Smith trained gelding that ran in the Highway at Randwick on All Aged Day and like most for the meeting, he couldn’t pick his feet up in the conditions when down the track behind Belvedere Boys. That form reads very well for this and on a firmer deck, I think he’s good enough to measure up.
1 Rematch (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Messara/Gavranich. He ran at Newcastle last time when lumping 63kg and for the most part of the straight, he was running on as if he was the winner, but couldn’t quite see it through when third. Home track, hard fit, touch of quality, appeals.
11 Torovista (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a nice horse for Dave McColm. He brings Brisbane metro form, which stands up in Highway races. His last run was at Eagle Farm when near the speed throughout and tried hard but just lacked the quality to put them away late when fourth to the in form Northern Decree. That reads well for this.
Race 3. (12:15) Woodlands Stakes 1100m
I reckon the early markets completely missed 10 Let’s Go Barbie (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for Chris Waller. Toque was a dominant on speed winner, but up/in was no disadvantage. This girl was back, had to come wide, was held up, but when clear, she savaged the line and ran through it with real purpose. Moved well in trials prior, debut was good…just think she’s the each way play.
3 Lazzura (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a nice filly on the up for Chris Waller and has to be respected as a key chance. She was big odds when debuting at Kembla but the way she gave them a start and a beating, launching late to finish best in an impressive debut. Good improvement to come and this race isn’t deep.
7 Aroha Stone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Nathan Doyle trained filly that is on debut. Daughter of El Roca that has had three trials, spanning two preps, in readiness for start one. Latest trial was April 23 at Wyong on testing ground and moved quite well to win the trial in solid time. Not a deep race this, so I think she commands some level of respect.
Race 4. (12:50) Muswellbrook Ford (Bm78) 1700m
8 Unusual Legacy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a nice horse for Chris Waller and should take beating. He resumed over 1500m at Rosehill in what looked a strong race and he didn’t disgrace himself at all in defeat when fourth to Highlights. Previous second up winner and fitter, up to 1700m, he’s going to take beating.
7 Perfect Play (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect. Import that made his Australian debut for Annabel on Anzac Day on the Kenso where he kept finding the line from just off the speed but found one better in Fay’s Angels. Fitter, ideal map, he should be around the mark.
6 Baltic Coast (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key chance. Far from disgraced in the Provincial Championship Final before going to the midweeks at Canterbury where he got a bit too far back but was good late in the piece behind the in form Hollywood Hero. Like him up in trip on the bigger track, he’s a winning chance.
Race 5. (13:25) Kia Ora (Bm72) 1300m
8 Jewellery (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the straight bat play for James Cummings, who had a fat day yesterday. This mare resumed at the midweeks at Canterbury when held up at times but was clear late and found the line, but had to settle for a second to Spring Lee. Up to 1300m and fitter, kind map and if the inside is okay, she’ll take beating.
13 Ostraka (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key chance. Annabel Neasham trained three year old that resumed at Rosehill three weeks back. He was near the speed throughout and was there to win but being first up, condition just gave way late in the piece when third to Disneck. Fitter and up in trip, his best is good enough to be around the mark.
9 Broadway Bouncer (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should take beating for Kristen Buchanan. Bumped into Bojangles two back, who of course ran super in the Hawkesbury Guineas. This guy then went to Rosehill a few weeks back and found the line with purpose when second to Everyone’s A Star. Like him up to 1300m and with natural upside, rates highly.
Race 6. (14:00) Denise's Joy Stakes 1100m
5 Commemorative (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks to be humming along beautifully in search of a Stakes win. She hasn’t raced since the PJ Bell during The Championships when far from disgraced on the bog behind all the way winner Facile. Tick over trial at Warwick Farm was very sharp and this stable are #1 when it comes to a mid prep trial in readiness for next start.
13 Martini Mumma (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quality filly for Matty Dale that has to step up to Stakes grade from Highway level but she does look above average. The Highway win at Rosehill was impressive, the way she let down and her change up speed was fairly evident, the way she put them away. Maps perfect, short course is ideal…leading chance.
4 Lazzago (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a talented filly for Chris Waller that comes here off a freshen up, having not raced since April 6 at Caulfield when racing over 1200m. She got back to near last in the run and did make up headway but was never threatening behind Inhibitions. Fresh legs and back to 1100m, can see her sitting back and launching late.
Race 7. (14:35) Ortensia Stakes 1100m
I think the each way bet here is clearly 15 Iowna Merc (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). They don’t trial much better than what he did at Canterbury, sitting last before rounding them up out wide under minimal riding and gee he moved well. Keen to risk the likes of Opal Ridge and Parisal, I think this guy will be launching late and is right down in the weights.
5 Hard To Say (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) lacks the class of some of these but he is such a genuine bugger that will just keep chipping away. He is three weeks between runs since winning at Rosehill where he led throughout under Nash and I loved the way he dug in to win when challenged to fend them off and win. Like him at 1100m vs 1200m, and with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.
9 Le Melody (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is sneaky flying for Stephen Jones and has home track advantage. Launched late to just miss two back at Warwick Farm before going to the Gold Rush where she was outclassed but far from disgraced in defeat behind Parisal. Likely will be spotting them a start but if she can settle closer, she’s dangerous at odds.
Race 8. (15:10) Dark Jewel Classic 1400m
11 Banana Queen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should take beating here for Ryan/Alexiou. This mare resumed two weeks ago in the Hawkesbury Crown where she got back off the speed and was wide in the straight. Just took a little too long to wind into her work but was good late behind Coco Jamboo. Fitter, bigger track and firmer deck, like her a lot.
5 Shadows Of Love (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done little wrong this time in for Kim Waugh and commands respect. She did an excellent job during the Provincial Championship Series before going to the Hawkesbury Crown where she kept chasing and was as game as ever in defeat behind Coco Jamboo. Looks really well set up here and commands respect.
7 Pippali (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. This mare comes through the Hawkesbury Crown where she got a fair way out of her ground and did make up some headway but she was never really a threat behind Coco Jamboo. Likely spots them a start but should be strong and her best is good enough.
Race 9. (15:50) Luskin Star Stakes 1300m
2 Tamerlane (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a ripper for James Cummings that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Jan 27 in the Carrington at Randwick when second to Zou Tiger, seemingly getting every chance but had no answers for the quality animal. Resumes and has looked strong in trial work to get ready for the return, and first up at 1300m signals some form of intent.
8 Much Much Better (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Sara Ryan. He resumed in the Gold Rush at Hawkesbury two weeks back where he led, and seemingly had some form of control. He tried hard but first up, he didn’t have the zip in the legs but was far from disgraced behind Parisal. Looks the leader here and fitter, dry deck, he’ll give cheek.
16 Key Largo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is capable of being dangerous at odds. He comes through the Hall Mark at Randwick where he was outclassed on paper but he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Mazu, beaten just over six lengths. I think a fast run 1300m suits and he will be launching at them late.
Race 10. (16:30) Gulliver's (Bm78) 1100m
14 Smashing Eagle (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has an awful racing pattern but I am convinced he is flying for Ryan/Alexiou. He ran over 1100m at Hawkesbury two weeks back where he got back to near last in the run but worked home with real purpose and was very good in defeat behind Contemporary. If he can settle closer, or get a drag into the race, he’ll take holding out.
8 Jedibeel (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has come back a different, better horse I feel. Trailled up like a jet prior to resuming on Anzac Day on the Kenso where he looked a good thing on paper and never looked like getting beat, getting the sweet sit behind the speed before angling clear and finished best. Good test here, but confident he measures up.
15 Dollar Magic (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) resumes for Scott Singleton and I think she is here to run really well fresh. She is a proven Saturday metro performer that finds herself in a winnable race here IMO and her trials to get ready have been very good, she has a good racing style, she has class…if she brings her best, she goes close.
