The Belmont racing season kicks off this Saturday for Belmont Sprint Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

1 Emerald Trader (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep and he does save his best for Belmont so with that in mind, happy to be in his corner. He resumed over 1400m at Ascot where he got back off the speed and took a little while to wind into his work but was good late in the piece when third. Much better set up here, more upside than most, hard to beat.

5 My Fury (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a good racing style and is racing well. This mare ran over the mile at the Ascot midweeks last time out where she attempted to lead throughout and gave a decent enough kick but just couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to Here For Cheques. Has run well at Belmont and with a soft lead, will take running down.

7 Tenacious Reward (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a good record at Belmont and can run an improved race. He ran two weeks back at Ascot and on face value, he was plain, but on a day where those on speed were suited, given he was back, forgive and forget the run IMO. Prior run was very good and with his best, he can take this out.

4 Kings Salute (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has come back in really good order IMO and should take beating here. Both runs back have come at Pinjarra, resuming with a third over 1200m before stretching to 1300m where he gave them a start and a beating in an impressive display. Third up and hard fit at 1400m, he appeals as one of the hardest to beat.

1 Chollima (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a nice filly heading in the right direction. Three weeks between runs since resuming with an electric win at Ascot, sitting back and was held up at times before driving through and savaged the line to win and win well. Fitter and up to 1400m, good upside to come, rates highly.

5 Ton Of Grunt (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1400m from 1500m, which to me signals this is a prep run for something further next time, but he has talent. He has caught the eye in both career outings, on debut over 1300m before stepping up to 1500m where he gave them a start and a beating in an electric performance. He’ll be launching at them late.

3 Golden Kathleen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) sits second behind Bustling as the best juvenile in WA and I am very confident she can get a win on the board here. Bad start sealed her fate in the Karrakatta before going to the Sires where she was clean to jump, was on speed and there to threaten, but Bustling was just too good, safely beating the rest. Back to 1300m no issue and if there is petrol left in the tank, she’ll be too good.

1 Big Shots (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the key and I dare say only threat to Golden Kathleen, if there is one. He was far from disgraced when resuming in the Karrakatta before going to the Sires where he got back to near last in the run and did make up ground but was never a winning factor behind Bustling. No Bustling here, he commands respect.

9 Antz Pantz Baby (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Vital Equine that resumes for Mitch Pateman. This girl is first up, having not raced since her debut back in December when far from disgraced but had her chance when defeated by Sinful Living. Given a good break and has looked to trial up nicely in readiness for the return.

7 Kings Honour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is humming for Hayden Ballantyne and it’s hard to get away from him. He has won his past two, both over 1000m. Bolted up at Pinjarra two back before proving that was no fluke with a dominant display at Ascot last Wednesday. He’s a short course type, good racing style, he’ll take beating.

8 Wicked Venom (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hit and miss, but his best is more than good enough to give this a shake. He ran over 1000m two weeks ago at Ascot when back off the speed before finding clear air and worked home strongly when second to the very much in form Treasured Queen. Tricky gate, but with luck, is dangerous.

6 Estimator (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a knockout hope. He resumed down the straight at Pinjarra when back off the speed and while he was never really threatening, he kept finding the line in a solid return behind Plato Or Plomo. Fitter and back to a bending track, can settle closer, he’s dangerous for sure.

2 Generosity (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks ready to win for Simon Miller. She has placed in both runs back, the latest being two weeks ago when back and launched late, but couldn’t quite get the win when second to Rope Them In. Hard fit now, maps ideally and up to 1300m, winnable race, keen on her prospects.

5 Playz With Fire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the talent under the hood to be Saturday class, but she is quirky. She resumed at Ascot a fortnight back where she was a real mess pre race, then got badly held up after getting back, before eventually getting clear and finding the line strongly. If she brings her best, she can threaten.

8 Kermit’s Luck (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands some form of respect. Just needed the run fresh at Pinjarra before going to Ascot where he ran a much improved race, sitting on speed and sticking on well to finish second to State Of Fury. His best is more than good enough, so keen to see how he goes.

4 Sowar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning but not a whole lot of confidence in this race. Mitch Pateman trained gelding that has been in work forever it seems like but continues to race at a really strong level. Latest run was over 1800m last Saturday at Ascot when back off the speed and kept finding the line in a good effort behind Allez Allez. Has won at 2100m previously, hard fit, in form, ideal map…happy to have him on top.

5 Fat Roy Slim (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is creeping up in the relative weights but he’s flying for Brock Lewthwaite. He has won his past two, the latest at Ascot a fortnight back when given a 12/10 by Pike to not go around a horse, save all the ground and prove too good. Harder here, but he has to be respected.

1 Let’sdeal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a tough nut who will just keep chipping away. Steve Wolfe trains this gelding, who ran behind Fat Roy Slim two weeks back at Ascot. He was one of the first off the bit but he kept finding the line and was really good in defeat to finish fourth. Honest, thereabouts and for mine, is a must for exotics.

8 Count The Sessions (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win and he looks to have found an ideal race to break a run of outs. He ran over 1400m last Saturday at Ascot where he got a lovely sit in transit behind the speed and presented to win but couldn’t quite finish the job when third to Zephyra. Good track/distance record and the depth here isn’t as deep. Hard to beat.

4 Malkar Pindari (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can bounce back for Simon Miller. Let down with real purpose to win first up before going to Ascot again three weeks ago where she got into a dream spot in transit but was under pressure and didn’t finish off behind Triple Jay. Tipping a third up bounce back is on the cards.

1 Desennea (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can bounce back. He ran two weeks back at Ascot where he seemingly got every chance but couldn’t quite finish the job behind Oly’s Choice, who is flying at present. He was looking like a win was near for him so I am not going to be dismissing him just yet.

All things being equal, 2 Western Empire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have a bit on these. He’s come back in beast mode and no coincidence that it has come with the returning to the stable of Team Williams. Arrogant win at Northam last time and you’d think he’ll love the open surroundings Belmont has to offer. I think he’ll keep winning and announce himself as a Railway contender for later in the year.

1 Valour Road (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a ripper for Simon Miller that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since the Gold Rush during the Summer when as brave as ever in defeat behind Munhamek, finishing a close up sixth. Given a good break, has trialled well leading in and 1400m fresh tells me there is intent.

5 Comfort Me (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a great record at Belmont and can run an improved race. He comes through the Northam race won by Western Empire. He had good market support and had a suck run in behind, but didn’t finish his race off at all and was on the plain side. He does tend to save his best for Belmont, and can be ridden more positively.

10 Keshi Boom…(Bet Now:  $SP.00) great to see her back at the races. Interesting time for her to return but she is a star and probably sits just behind Zipaway as the best 3YO in WA. Her last run was the Champion Fillies when given a 12/10 by Pike and was much too good. Two trials under the belt to get ready and although 1200m is on the short side, she has class.

4 Super Smink (Bet Now:  $SP.00) isn’t at the level she was 6-12 months but where she is at now is good enough to threaten. Set a task and ran accordingly when down the track in The Quokka first up before going to Northam when back and did make up ground but was never a threat behind Western Empire. Like her back to 1200m and we know her best is good enough.

1 Mojo Rhythm (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run an improved race. He had the Blinkers on at Northam last time but he was way too keen just off the speed and didn’t finish the race off at all behind Western Empire. Off his prior efforts, he would be an absolute must for exotics.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 3 Golden Kathleen

LONG SHOT: Race Six Number 4 Sowar
