18/5/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Rosehill, Lord Mayors Cup day

Racing returns to Rosehill this Saturday where nine races have been set down. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Going the way of 3 Hulk (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS). Formerly with Darren Weir, this colt, now with Chris Waller, had one soft trial at Canterbury leading into his resumption at Warwick Farm where he looked to travel well near the speed and fought on well, with condition just giving out late. He should take really good improvement from that run and his form from the first prep does read well, plus gets blinkers first time.

4 Kubrick (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) looks to be a handy enough youngster for Chris Waller who had trialled up well prior to resuming over 1000m at Cranbourne where he got off the bit before the turn and was under pressure but responded strongly under Johnny Allen and surged late to get the win. 1200m+ will suit him ideally IMO and this isn’t the strongest 2YO race going around.

2 Espinola (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is a son of Bel Esprit for the Hayes/Dabernig team who had trialled well prior to resuming during the Wagga Carnival where he looked a good thing on paper and was ridden accordingly by Walker, putting him into a good spot in the run before getting clear on the turn and putting them away quickly. Didn’t beat much, but ran time and form from the Spring reads alright.

9 Elm Court (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) on top. Matty Dale trains this daughter of Mossman, who was a drifter in betting when resuming over the 1175m at Albury but despite the market saying she might need the run, she absolutely bolted in, winning by a space with a bit in hand, ran time, and that form has been ticked off with two subsequent winners. Confident this girl can measure up.

2 Bridyn May (Bet Now: $18.00 TOP ODDS) is a Danny Williams trained mare who was kept quite safe in betting when resuming in a Highway at Hawkesbury three weeks ago where she had a suck run nearer the inside and battled away pretty well in defeat behind stablemate Major Danger. Think she’ll take really good improvement from that and keep in mind a few runs ago she did run second to Noble Boy.

8 So Shy (Bet Now: $31.00 TOP ODDS) was a horse I liked in the Highway at Hawkesbury from three weeks ago and while he didn’t win or place, I thought his effort was full of merit when fifth to Major Danger given it was his first run in 39 weeks, paraded as if he would improve with the run and that’s how it panned out, but far from disgraced. Provided there’s no second up syndrome, he’s a winning chance.

12 Jazzland (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) for me. Kristen Buchanan trains this progressive stayer, who resumed over the Warwick Farm mile where he just had to force the issue earlier than Parr would have liked given the tempo was a crawl, and in doing that, gave the perfect drag up to the eventual winner Vega, but he stuck on really well in defeat. Up to 1800m, he can land on speed, get rolling and give them something to chase given he was strong at the end of 2100m last prep.

2 Mushaireb (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) is a Team Freedman trained import who was impressive at his Australian debut when winning at Warwick Farm before racing on the Kenso track where he just found the 1550m a tad sharp second up but stayed on well behind Fuchu. Looks as if the 1800m and bigger track will suit, third up, so should be just about hard fit, and he gets a sweet gate.

11 Wild About Her (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS) is a Kylie Gavenlock trained mare who has returned in fab order. Both runs this prep have come at Wyong, resuming over 1350m when a narrow third before stepping up to the mile where she looked home when hitting the front, but was pipped on the peg by Surjin. Up top 1800m should suit and does have plenty of upside left. She’s in this for sure.

12 Harmattan (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) looks a key chance. James Cummings trains this mare, who ran over 1500m at Hawkesbury last time out where I thought Schofield gave her every chance in the run and she tried hard when a close up third to Tamarack. Just think perhaps she was bogged down somewhat by the 59.5kg impost. I think back on a track she likes and is a winner at, she appeals.

Really interesting runner is 6 Savacool (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS), resuming for Chris Waller. This girl hasn’t raced since December 1 over 2000m here where she looked a moral on paper but ran a howler when tailed off last. Something had to be amiss and it was, with the dreaded Cardiac Arrhythmia. Has had two trials in readiness for her return and I have liked the way she’s gone about it. She’ll get back and be strong at the end.

10 Hogmanay (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS) could be an improver at odds. Hasn’t raced since Anzac Day over 1800m at Randwick back in the ruck in a race where those out the back really couldn’t get involved, won by Girl Tuesday, so he was a forgive there. Been given a little freshen up, back to 1500m with weight relief, from an inside gate, back on a track he loves, gee I think he can run a decent race.

8 Transmitter (Bet Now: $10.00) looks set for a really good campaign. James Cummings trains this filly, who hasn’t raced since January 23 at Canterbury when proving too good, just, for her rivals despite getting the sweet steer from Bowman. That was 1250m and I reckon at that stage of her career, that was a stretch. Looks to have come on big time with the prep under the belt if the two trials are anything to go by. One to beat for mine.

The trial pervs are onto 4 Oxford Tycoon (Bet Now: $6.00) and rightfully so. Had ligament damage in his last start, which was in the Rosebud last year behind Sandbar, which followed an electric maiden win at Wyong. Been given plenty of time to recover from that and has been brought up to fitness with two trials, the latest seeing him bolt up over 900m at Newcastle, running much quicker late splits than Newsfan and was under less pressure so can see why he’s well liked, especially with the gate.

Have to give 1 Dynamited (Bet Now: $12.00)  another look. He was relatively solid in betting when resuming at Hawkesbury and on face value, he was awful behind Signore Fox, but was slow to recover, so there were excuses. Had trialled up pretty well prior to that effort so have to give him another chance because his efforts from earlier on in his career do read well.

Pretty confident that 9 Reelem In Ruby (Bet Now: $2.30)  can put this lot away. Tempo/bias beat her first up at Warwick Farm over 1200m when beaten a lip by Echo Jet before going to the 1300m there and sitting off a more genuine tempo before being clicked up and putting them away for an impressive win. Looks like 1400m on a big track will be right up her alley and has improvement to come.

3 Strome (Bet Now: $15.00)  has been excellent in two runs back from a spell for Gary Portelli. Loved the way she let down to win first up at Gosford (Metro) before going to the Kenso track at Randwick where she was good in defeat when second to She’s Furline, proving the first up win was no fluke. 1400m at Rosehill looks an ideal set up, and she was near four weeks between runs that day, so should have room for improvement.

I reckon back to this level will really suit the Team Snowden trained 8 Eawase (Bet Now: $15.00). Unlucky run two back in the James Carr at Randwick before backing up a week later in the Hawkesbury Guineas where she was outclassed behind Military Zone. Been a while since has faced a race like this and won’t need to do too much from recent runs to go close to beating these.

For mine, there are two horses you can back here, maybe each way depending on odds, and you should get a return in the positive. I have 5 Grey Lion (Bet Now: $4.20)  on top because I think he’s absolutely flying for Matty Smith. Lovely ride from Kath O’Hara got him home in the JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick last time, and that form has been franked. Been kept up to the mark with a Randwick trial win and again, the way he dashed was most impressive. He’ll only run well IMO.

After his last run, it was a case of bet anywhere with 12 Live And Free (Bet Now: $4.60), and I’ll still back him here. John O’Shea has him going super at the moment. Last ran over 1550m on the Kenso track at Randwick where he looked the winner when presented but his condition just gave out late. Third up at 2000m does look perfect despite the class/depth rise and is a clear leading chance.

10 Black On Gold (Bet Now: $23.00)  could be one to include in wider multiples. He had trialled up alright for Chris Waller prior to resuming in the Hawkesbury Cup where he got back to near last in the run in a race totally dominated by the leader and eventual winner Archedemus. Still, I thought Black On Gold stuck on pretty well in defeat. Up to 2000m with a more genuine tempo, he could threaten.

Just has to run up to his trials and 6 Deprive (Bet Now: $2.40)  should be too good for this lot. James Cummings trains this talented four year old galloper, who is resuming after putting it together in the Summer with a couple of really sharp wins on the bounce before being tipped out. Love horses that are spelled off the back of a win/wins, and his recent Randwick trial win was very good.

5 Newsfan (Bet Now: $5.00)  is a really talented mare for the Kim Waugh stable resuming. This girl had two runs in the latter part of the Spring last year, both coming here. Electric turn of foot to win first up at this track/distance before racing over 1300m where she just got held up and had no momentum, which cost her the win in a close finish behind Sweet Deal. Gee her trials have been sharp and both have been strong hit outs, so for mine, she’s ready to go fresh.

Third up from a break, 8 Problem Solver (Bet Now: $11.00) should just about be ready fitness wise. Has looked to carry a fair amount of extra condition in both runs this time in, starting off at Randwick behind Top Striker before a solid effort on the Kenso track behind Passage Of Time. It was an identical set up leading into her third up run last prep where she bolted up in the Wyong 3&4YO Magic Millions. Repeats that effort and she’ll go close.

9 Monsieur Sisu (Bet Now: $10.00)  looks a key threat in the get out. Talented four year old for Paul Cave that resumes off the back off an okay Summer prep, where he was thrown in the deep end on a number of occasions and ran okay without really measuring up. 1400m fresh tells me enough work has been put in for the resumption and his two trials leading in, both resulting in wins, have been good.

17 Something Fast (Bet Now: $12.00)  is a son of Smart Missile for the Anthony Cummings team who was quite good in defeat I thought last time out on the Kenso track at Randwick, sitting on a fast speed and was entitled to drop right out but he stuck to the task quite well in defeat behind dominant winner Renewal. Back in depth now, he appeals as a leading contender.

5 Asterius (Bet Now: $10.00) isn’t one of mine, but I think first up/second up might be the time to have something on. He was outstanding without winning early last prep and then just whacked away at his next few. Been given a good break and though the recent trial was quiet, it looked very good. Could have easily won the trial IMO if extended but was under a big hold. Horror draw, but good speed, he’ll get his chance to finish over the top.

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 9 Monsieur Sisu
