Race 1. (13:02) Zonte's Footstep (Bm82) 1600m
5 Thirsty Guest (Bet Now: $SP.00) gets another chance for me. He was backed as if unbeatable when racing here two weeks ago at this trip but he looked cast on the turn, seemingly on the wrong leg. He balanced up late and found the line strongly but that’s little consolation for those who took the shorts. He is flying and if he runs up to prior efforts, he will be too good for this horse.
3 En Francais (Bet Now: $SP.00) is much better suited at this level. She was thrown in the deep end in the Tesio at The Valley and didn’t fire a shot when running last behind all the way winner Wishlor Lass, who gave nothing else a look in. Prior efforts were strong, notably two back in the Murray Bridge Cup. That was good enough to threaten here.
Fitter and up to 1600m are two big ticks for 4 Oh Mo (Bet Now: $SP.00). He resumed two weeks back over 1200m here where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, he did make up headway and was pretty solid in defeat behind Ocean Reward. Straight to the mile I find interesting but he has more upside than most and has a touch of quality.
Race 2. (13:37) Boileau Business Technology (Bm72) 1800m
4 Poison Chalice (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in and with that, he will be winning. He ran in the Country Cup Final during Cup Week at Flemington and his run from the gate was very good, working to the line with real purpose behind Picaroon. He’ll love rising to 1800m, the depth here is nowhere near as strong and he looks to have panels. Very keen.
Looking at this race with Poison Chalice out. 8 Superior Sam (Bet Now: $SP.00) has become a winning machine for Clarken/O’Shea and see no reason to jump off her. She has won three on the bounce, the latest being two weeks ago at this track/distance where she got a beaut drag up into the race and was too good for them late. Think she only has to hold her form and I think she’ll win again.
1 Yuri Royale (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect for Team Jolly. He was met with good support at odds when racing at the mile here a fortnight back. He was near the speed throughout and presented to win but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to impressive winner Midnight Mass. He’s fourth up from a spell so he should be hard fit and his best should see him around the mark.
Race 3. (14:12) Claude Haigh Memorial Mdn Plate 1200m
9 Divine Fire (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Clarken/O’Shea trained filly that is on debut. The stable had a couple nominated for the race but goes with the sole rep in the shape of this Divine Prophet filly. Moved well in a Gawler trial on Monday and the fact they back up to debut on race day so soon tells me that this has been a plan, so watch the market.
11 Stupendous (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Chris Bieg and appeals here. She came with a well timed run here on Cup Day and found the line well enough but couldn’t quite get the win when a close up second to Our Divinyl. Has been around the mark throughout this prep and only has to hold her form to go close.
5 Pride Of Shalaa (Bet Now: $SP.00) stays at 1200m so he will be spotting them a start but should be strong at the end. He ran over this trip on Cup Day here and while he was never a threat, he worked home with purpose in a good effort behind Our Divinyl. If he is able to get a drag into the race and be within range, he’s good enough to win without surprising.
Race 4. (14:47) Logi-Tech Pty Ltd Hcp (68) 1600m
3 Apache Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Phillip Stokes trained gelding that resumed over 1400m on the Parks track a few weeks back when a big price. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a very strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through and was run down late by stablemate Miss Kermie. This guy has more upside to come, he has a good racing style and this track has been suiting on speed runners recently.
4 Test The Law (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing in pretty good form for Matty Seyers. He was well specked at odds when racing a fortnight back over 1500m here. He attempted to lead throughout and he gave a fair amount of cheek but couldn’t quite see it through when second to Ghetto Superstar. Stable has been flying this season and he’ll give himself every chance with his racing pattern.
7 Shinseki (Bet Now: $SP.00) brings Port Lincoln form, which is hard to trust in town, but in a race like this, I think it’s okay. Last start was over 1750m at Port Lincoln where he was back near last in the run and while he was never a threat, he made up good ground late when third to Mount Madeira. Has a gate to settle much closer in the run and be strong at the end.
Race 5. (15:22) Rsl Care (Bm66) 1200m
1 Grinzinger Prince (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a tricky gate to overcome but if he does and gets cover, a drag into the race, he will be too good. He has come back in really good order for Cody Reardon, winning well fresh before going to a very strong 78 three weeks ago when back and closing well when a close up third to Mouse Almighty. He has class on his side here and I’ll bank on that getting him home.
4 Lope De Wolf (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned in pretty good order and up to 1200m, he appeals. He resumed here on Cup Day and he was one of the real eye catchers of the meeting, closing off with real purpose behind Sabermetric to finish fourth. He has the potential to settle closer in the run and should that eventuate, he’ll take beating against these.
2 Run And Tell (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look. He resumed on the Parks track three weeks back where he was a notable drifter in betting and after leading, he seemed to get every chance and was very plain in the straight, running last behind Anjopin. He’s a better horse than that so while I couldn’t back him to win, he is one I can entertain for multiples.
Race 6. (15:57) Legacy South Australia And Broken Hill (Bm78) 2500m
1 Long Arm (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a bit on these surely? Peter Gelagotis trained gelding that comes through the 2800m race on Cup Day at Flemington where he was given a lovely ride I thought and tried hard but didn’t quite finish it off behind impressive winner The Map. Good record at the track and with a class edge, I think he is quite clearly the one to beat.
3 Hasta La Fiorente (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Sue Murphy and rates highly. Class got him home two back at Mount Gambier before going to the Horsham Cup where he defied the pattern and was a real eye catcher when closing off with purpose behind Supagirl. Good record at the track/distance and stepping up to this trip, he appeals.
6 Canford (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing over 2250m here last Saturday where he was ridden with intent, making a midrace move to lead and he tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get the win but stayed on and was sound in defeat behind Ammo Amor. Back up in trip looks a big tick…not sure he wins but he can pinch a first four spot.
Race 7. (16:37) Mark Lobert Gallery Hcp (C2) 1539m
6 Missile Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing in a purple patch for Team Jaensch. Let down with purpose to win her maiden at Strathalbyn two back before racing on the Parks track last Saturday where she got back in the run to last and did make up good ground in the straight to run second to dominant winner Chilko Lake. Up to 1500m should be ideal and the depth here is on the thin side.
10 Cherokee Miss (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key threat for me. She is on the seven day back up after racing on the Parks track last Saturday where she got back to near last in the run, tailed off early, and was never a factor, but she worked home with real purpose late in the piece behind impressive winner Santastico, who led throughout and was too good. The rise in trip I find interesting but off last run, I think it’ll be okay and she’ll be hard to hold out.
4 Rabtat (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Michael Hickmott. Fair return at Murray Bridge before going to Strathalbyn where he got back and made up solid headway when a close up fourth to Ruling Goddess. Hard fit now, up in trip, I think he’s dangerous if the inside gate is used to advantage.
Race 8. (17:17) Gary Radford, Oam Memorial (Bm68) 1100m
9 Second To Nun (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a mare I have time for and gee she looks well suited here. Spotted them too much head start at Murray Bridge fresh but was good late before racing on the Parks track here when back on a day where the track was suiting those up/in, so you have to be very forgiving. Has a gate to settle much closer and third up from a spell, peak fitness, launch late…very keen.
7 Miss Mucinni (Bet Now: $SP.00) will land near the front and give cheek I am sure. She attempted to lead throughout a fortnight back and she gave a decent kick from the front but couldn’t quite finish it off, just getting the staggers late when a close up fourth to Tosen Water, beaten 1.5L. Back to 1100m I like and she should be stronger at the end. Dangerous.
4 Starlite Valley (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned in really good order for Kym Healy and back to Mares grade, she appeals. She was well specked at odds when resuming here two weeks back in a strong race and I thought she was far from disgraced in defeat behind impressive winner and the very much in form Sghirripa. Back to 68 grade, back against the Mares, enormous upside, she rates highly.
Race 9. (17:59) Those We Serve! Hcp (64) 1050m
6 Brazano (Bet Now: $SP.00) is suited back to 1050m and brings strong form. He ran over 1200m at Strathalybyn last time out where he was wide and doing work in the run. Despite that, he kept coming but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Santastico, who won last Saturday here to frank the form. Back to 1050m I like, lands on speed, hard to beat.
4 All Beans (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned in pretty good order and should take beating here. Close up in defeat fresh at Bordertown before going here a fortnight back where he got into a beaut spot behind the speed before angling clear and in a driving finish, he was too good. He has good room for improvement I feel and strikes another winnable race.
2 Real Valentia (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give cheek. He did that when resuming at this track/distance two weeks back and he looked the winner for the most part. Just couldn’t quite get the win when nabbed late by All Beans. The end of 1050m is the slight query at this level but with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.
