A bumper ten race card has been set down for Morphettville this Saturday for Hill Smith Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.

Race 1. (12:24) Canadian Club (Bm66) 1100m
2 Common Interest (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a really good prospect in time for Team Jolly but I think he can make it 2/2. He debuted at Balaklava where he did everything wrong but found when it mattered, driving hard late to score. He trialled up like a rocket prior, I am confident he can measure up.
1 Golden Horizon (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after resuming last Saturday at Murray Bridge where he sat off speed and kept trying but bumped into a good one, Virtual Illusion. More positive ride, he will take running down.
3 Dampen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to his own age after racing against the older horses when resuming two weeks back over 1200m. He led and gave a decent kick from the front but first up, condition just gave way late in the piece. Back to 1100m, more patient steer, he’s a threat at odds.
Race 2. (12:59) Winning Edge Presentations Hcp (C2) 1050m
5 Thunder Shoc (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing really well at present doe Will Clarken and is one of the hardest to beat. She was a strong winner three weeks ago on the Parks track, sittting on speed throughout and found under pressure to score. Good racing style, I think she’s the straight bat play.
2 Kalasec (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an improver for Team Jolly. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago in a stronger race than this and worked home well from off speed when second to Mt Niseko. If he can settle closer, be within range, he can win.
4 Mesrour (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since resuming over 1050m at Morphettville. He did early work to land on speed and tried hard but the early burn told on him late and he just felt the pinch late. With a more positive steer, he’s dangerous.
Race 3. (13:34) Thomas Farms Mdn Plate 1200m
5 Midlife Crisis (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should take care of these. Team Kavanagh trained three year old that resumes, having not raced since his debut at Kyneton back in April when off speed and worked home with real purpose when third. Jumpout work has been strong, he wins if he’s ready to go.
12 Ratadash (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should be better for the debut run, which came last Monday at Gawler where she was actually an eye catcher, getting back and making up h good headway without threatening. She’s got good upside and is a key threat.
7 Strong Minded (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to 1200m after resuming over 1050m here two weeks back in the maiden where he seemed to have his chance but the winner Hot Statement was impressive. Better set up here, not dismissing him.
Race 4. (14:09) Sportsbet Same Race Multi (Bm72) 2006m
4 Guru Warrior (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs for Andrew Gluyas since a strong win over 1950m on the Parks track. He was there to be beaten early on in the straight but he kicked hard and drew clear late for an impressive win. Confidence is up, he can go on with it.
5 Whatsanamegeorge (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it. That win came over 2250m at Morphettville Parks when ridden with intent to sit on speed and he was trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. Tricky draw but will press forward and be around the mark.
7 Buddong (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip after resuming over 1800m at Gunbower. She resumed in the Cup there and did make ground from the back but was never a factor. If she can use the inside gate to advantage, she appeals as a knockout hope.
Race 5. (14:44) Skycity Hcp (64) 1100m
5 Murph (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was massive in defeat here two weeks ago over 1200m after sitting four wide the trip. Forced wider on the turn, he still surged and looked the winner, only to be nabbed by Hypernova. If that hasn’t busted him, he’s one of the hardest to beat.
7 Dapper Don (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran third to stablemate Thunder Shoc three weeks back on the Parks track. He had the beaut run in transit and was there to win but didn’t quite have the finale to finish the job. Think with a more patient steer, a bunny to chase, he’ll take beating.
1 Bower Boy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. He resumes for Stuart Gower, having not raced since July 5 at Gawler when leading and failing to handle the bog. Given a good break, firmer deck, watch betting.
Race 6. (15:19) Peter Elberg Funerals (Bm78) 1050m
7 Mt Niseko (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Chris Bieg. He has won two on the bounce, the latest coming two weeks ago at this track/distance when giving them a start and a beating in an impressive effort. Good test here rising to 78 grade but confident he measures up.
1 Sixteen Reasons (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should have just about won here two weeks ago. She bombed the start, was a long last, then tracked up and loomed but then ran out of clear air. Massive effort in defeat behind Grinzinger Prince. I think she’ll go very close if the breaks go her way.
2 Wiggum (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Travis Doudle trained gelding that is first up. He resumes, having not raced since the Manihi Classic when back and was never a factor behind Sir Sway. He does race best on the fresh side and he has class, which will carry him a long way.
Race 7. (16:00) Hill Smith Stakes 1800m
3 Different Gravy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to 1800m after a maiden win over the mile at Swan Hill where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late to finish best and score. Maps to do no work in the run and be effective late.
4 Talent Scout (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up in trip for Team McEvoy after a maiden win over the mile at Murtoa where he beat a bunch of camels but the way he went about it was quite impressive. Stable rarely misfire when they come back to SA and this isn’t an overly deep race.
9 Sassy Sophie (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran over the mile here two weeks back where not much went right for her in a slowly run race and she just couldn’t really get a chance to build the revs so forgive and forget. Think the rise to 1800m is ideal and she has upside.
Race 8. (16:42) Freeman Wauchope Timber Celebrating 100 Years (Bm70) 1200m
4 Shady Thinker (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of So You Think that resumes for Bain/Taylor. He is first up, having not raced since March 29 when fourth over this track/distance, which followed two impressive wins. Given a good break and has trialled up like a rocket for the return.
5 Clarence (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can run an improved race. Three weeks between runs since racing over this trip on the Parks track when off speed and did make up some headway but was never really thratening behind Ndola. Better suited here, he can take this out.
10 Dolcemente (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a John Hyam trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since May 31 over 2000m here when a tad on the plain side and was never really a factor. Fresh at 1200m I find interesting and Blinkers first time tells me there is intent.
Race 9. (17:27) Access Hardware (Bm70) 1200m
10 Nicish (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained mare that is in form. Three weeks between runs since an impressive win on the Parks track where she gave them a start and a beating in an impressive performance. If she can bring that form to the course proper, she is one of the leading contenders.
5 Schroder’s Mistake (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was massive here when resuming two weeks ago. On paper, just a run behind Mt Niseko, but when you break down the race shape, the sectionals, the fact he pulled up lame…the run was enormous. If he has taken no harm from that, gee he’ll run a beauty.
3 Starts Now (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Pierro that resumes for Team Jolly. He is first up, having not raced since July 26 on heavy ground and struggled in the conditions behind Shoeless. Likely will spot them a start but should be strong late and is a knockout hope.
Race 10. (18:02) Sportsbet Jockey Watch Hcp (68) 1600m
3 Sachem (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) takes beating for Will Clarken after a second two weeks ago at this track/distance. He got off speed and presented to win but Super Lad had it too good in front and kicked on strongly, holding Sachem. More genuine tempo here, he’ll take holding out.
10 Grinzinger Halo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Will Clarken trained mare that is in form, winning two on the bounce. Latest was over this track/distance a fortnight back when sitting on speed and credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and score. Confident she runs well once again.
2 Sparkup (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a sleeper at odds. He ran three weeks back over 1400m on the Parks track where on paper, he was plain behind Pearl Adios, but he was badly held up late so forgive and forget. If he can get room to move, clear air, he’s a threat at odds.
