Nine races will be run and won at Caulfield on Saturday with good depth right across the board. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.

[crownbetoffer]

Race 1. (11:40) Schweppes Handicap 1200m

Back Me

3 Lone Eagle (Bet Now: $2.50) is a talented colt for Coolmore and Mick Price who was very good on debut at Sandown behind Cliff’s Edge before racing down the straight at Flemington where he should have won but just had no luck at a vital stage when appearing to have plenty to offer. On his home track now and just has to overcome the draw.

Danger

6 River Jewel (Bet Now: $9.50) was hard in the market when racing in the Elvstroem Classic during the Swan Hill Classic and aided by a peach from Beau Mertens, the filly kicked strongly to get the job done and run good time compared to the other 1200m races that day. Was down to run last week at Flemington but instead runs here. Key threat.

Long Shot

4 Prevailing Winds (Bet Now: $21.00) could be the big improver here. Darren Weir trained colt who comes through the Elvstroem Classic also and on face value, he was disappointing behind River Jewel, but keep in mind that the start prior he had an absolute gutbuster at Wodonga and that may have stuffed. Little break between runs helps and gets blinkers first time.

Race 2. (12:15) Dream Thoroughbreds Handicap 2000m

Back Me

2 Kiwia (Bet Now: $2.20) is a talented type for the Darren Weir yard who ran over 2000m at Flemington three weeks back where he got off the pace before presenting wider and dashing to the front before being swamped right on the peg by Royal Order. Now he has the 2000m run under the belt, he should be better off and rates highly.

Danger

4 Royal Order (Bet Now: $4.20) is a progressive three year old for Mick Kent who is the key threat here. Produced a big finish to break the maiden over the Ballarat mile before going to the Flemington 2000m where he again got a mile back in the run but savaged the line late out wide to score a big win. Open to improvement, he is one of the hardest to beat.

Long Shot

6 Captain Rhett (Bet Now: $18.00) is on the quick back up for the Pat Carey camp after racing over the Flemington mile last Saturday where he just got caught in the inferior ground and couldn’t let down behind Thaad. I think this race carries less depth, and he is much better suited at 2000m, plus the claim for Jack Martin.

Race 3. (12:50) Sheen Group Plate 1600m

Back Me

11 Annaman (Bet Now: $16.00) is a horse I am prepared to take the gamble on. Former Tony Gollan galloper who is now with Darren Weir. His best form is over 2000m+, but I liked the way he went to the line and through it in a recent Avoca trial. We know what Weir can do with these battling horses. Big watch.

Danger

13 Approved Anger (Bet Now: $10.00) strung together two sharp wins at Ballarat over 1200m and 1400m respectively before going to the Flemington 1400m where he did a bit of work from the gate and tired late behind Urban Ruler, who ran a beauty last weekend to make sure the form is good. Key threat.

Long Shot

14 Sir Sagamore (Bet Now: $7.50) is on potential the best horse in the race but he just does so much wrong and is an absolute fruit loop upstairs. Did a power of work in the run last time out over 1400m at Bendigo when wide most of the way and just felt the pinch late. Better luck here and he’ll go close.

Race 4. (13:25) Sheamus Mills Bloodstock Handicap 1100m

Back Me

1 Clipper (Bet Now: $4.00) is a really good Canberra filly for Matty Dale who has won two for two this time in, both coming in Randwick Highways, both times ridden superbly by Tim Clark. Stable do have a very good when sending horses on the road, especially to Victoria. Has to carry the weight, but is very good.

Danger

3 Moonlites Choice (Bet Now: $7.00) had a little freshen up prior to racing during the Swan Hill Carnival where she was a surprise drifter in the market but she proved far too good for her rivals and that could well the confidence boost she needs to take the next step and win at Saturday grade.

Long Shot

17 Cubby (Bet Now: $19) is a smart looking filly for the Jim Conlan camp who came with a well timed run to break the maiden two back at Bendigo before going to Sale where I thought she ran a beauty behind Magnespirit. Draws awkwardly here, but if she gets three wide cover, she can ambush these.

Race 5. (14:05) The Importer Handicap 1200m

Back Me

2 A Lotta Love (Bet Now: $6.00) looks a good bet for me here, hoping we get decent odds. Talented mare who drops back to benchmark grade for the first time since this time last year where she actually won this race at the corresponding meeting, and she was dominant. Draws well and Williams steers. Could well be dominant again.

Danger

5 Snake Charmer (Bet Now: $6.50) is a SA visitor for the Stokes camp who looks to have a sense of timing about her. Ran over 1200m at Morphettville a fortnight back and aided by a lovely ride from Emily Finnegan, the mare chased hard to grab Battle Brewing right on the peg. Stable should always be respected when bringing runners over.

Long Shot

9 Swiss Kiss (Bet Now: $8.00) proved too good for them fresh at Wangaratta before going to the Valley four weeks back where she had no luck in the run, getting stuck wide throughout and tiring late behind Whistle Baby. She’s a bit hard to trust, but if you go on her fresh win, which was dominant, she’s a must include at odds.

Race 6. (14:45) SECUREcorp Handicap 1400m

Back Me

2 Nikitas (Bet Now: $4.50) has really turned the corner since joining the Darren Weir yard. He savaged the line to win first up during the Bool Carnival. He then went to Sandown and was game in defeat behind Rillito before going to Flemington where he beat all bar Urban Ruler, who was outstanding in defeat last Saturday. That form reads well for this.

Danger

8 Enigman (Bet Now: $4.20) is a smart customer for the Ciaron Maher who was a bit disappointing I thought first up before the stable sent him back to the provincials and Bendigo where Meech gave him a pearler and the three year old dashed right away and spanked them. Confidence will be high and Williams steers.

Long Shot

3 Throssell (Bet Now: $11.00) is the very interesting runner here. Ciaron Maher trained three year old who returns to racing this campaign as a gelding. Contested some high class races in the Autumn, including the Australian Guineas, where he was okay. That tells you the class he has, and his jump outs leading in have been very good.

Race 7. (15:25) Moorookyle Handicap 1400m

Back Me

Looks a lovely race for 14 Violent Snow (Bet Now: $6.50). Surprised many with her win at the Valley two back before racing there again a fortnight back and to the eye she looked a bit unlucky when fifth to Stylish Miss. Good record at Caulfield, hard fit now and gets Oliver steering. Great each way bet for mine.

Danger

This is well and truly D-Day for 3 Onerous (Bet Now: $7.50) . We know that on his day he is just about better than these, but he is just a nightmare to trust, because I think he has a few loose screws upstairs. Two runs back for Team Hawkes have been awful but this is a big, big drop in grade. Has to fire here and I’ll give him a look.

Long Shot

2 Del Prado (Bet Now: $8.00) is the very interesting runner here. Talented gelding for the Corstens camp who has been very tardy away in recent times. That was the reason he recently went to the Flemington jump outs where the barrier blanket was applied and he jumped much cleanly. Horror record at Caulfield, but on his best form, he’s right in this.

Race 8. (16:05) Ladbrokes Handicap (84) 1200m

Back Me

I’m all over 4 Heza Ripper (Bet Now: $13.00) and he is one of the better bets on the program. He is flying this time in, but has just had no luck with gates, and that was the case again last start at the Valley where he was wide no cover throughout and just tired late. Loves give in the track and he gets his chance here to post a win.

Danger

5 Act Of Valour (Bet Now: $4.80) has been given a freshen up for the Henry Dwyer camp. Hasn’t raced since May 13 during the Adelaide Carnival where he got into a wide midfield spot with cover before launching late and just missing out on the win behind Roselli Sting. Goes well when produced fresh and he is a key threat.

Long Shot

9 Portman (Bet Now: $5.50) is a horse I will keep a close eye on. Very good galloper for the Danny O’Brien camp who really came of age last campaign as a gelding, winning three and placing in the other three runs from six outings. Jump outs have been sharp and his best efforts came first and second up last time in.

Race 9. (16:40) Quayclean Handicap 1800

Back Me

5 Magic Consol (Bet Now: $4.60) has come back in really good order for the Paul Preusker yard. Superb win two back at the Valley mile before racing at the same track/distance where he was given a peach by Williams and looked home but old mate Petrology nailed him right on the line. He can go right on with it here up to 1800m.

Danger

10 Kaniana  (Bet Now: $13.00) is a ripping mare for the Darren Weir camp who was an alarming drifter in the market when racing in the Swan Hill Cup last time out but despite that, she ran so well in defeat behind the above average SA galloper Victory Downs. Up to 1800m looks ideal and looks well weighted.

Long Shot

4 Zebrinz (Bet Now: $13.00) rises in trip for the first time so he’ll be an interesting watch for me here. He ran over 1400m at Flemington three weeks back and even though the race shape was clearly against him, I thought he ran really well in defeat behind Tsahitsi. If they go quick enough in front here, he’s the horse to watch.
