Nine races will be run and won at Eagle Farm this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (11:33) Worldwide Printing Handicap 1600m
Looks pretty straight forward here with 1 Star Of Michelin (Bet Now: $1.85). He looks a really progressive three year old who has won his past two, both coming here over 1400m and 1500m respectively, the latter win coming four weeks ago in impressive fashion. Up to the mile looks fine for him, looks to have a touch of class and I don’t see a horse capable of beating him on form.
3 Don’t Waiver (Bet Now: $8.00) looks to be heading in the right direction. Impressive win from the back to win fresh over 1000m at the Sunny Coast before stepping up to 1400m with a break between runs and just lacked the fitness when second to Concealed Dynamite. Fitter now and up to the mile looks a good recipe and I think he runs well for sure against these.
For wider multiples, I’d include 2 Sizzling Babe (Bet Now: $23.00). She ran over 1200m here three weeks ago where the rider dropped the whip in the straight but despite that, she did make up okay ground late in the piece behind Ginger Rock. She’s racing as if further will suit, which is what she gets here, and she measure up in town last prep, so she’s capable if she brings her best.
Race 2. (12:08) Alex Gow Funerals Handicap (75) 2200m
Can see this race being a real sit/sprint, so going with the horse with the turn of foot, which lies with 3 Miss Shanti (Bet Now: $6.50). Outstayed by Borazon two back here before backing up a week later at Doomben when trying hard but failing to pick up Our Mantra. Hoping that Fradd can get the back of Illwendo, and if it comes down to who has the turn of foot, Miss Shanti is the pony to bet on.
2 Illwendo (Bet Now: $1.65) returns to Queensland after giving them a spanking at Doomben two back. He then raced at Rosehill three weeks ago where he was solid in defeat but clearly no match for the brilliance produced by Our Candidate. Don’t think there is a horse of that quality lining up here and only has to hold his form to be quite competitive here.
7 Allcash (Bet Now: $18.00) doesn’t win out of turn for Chris Waller but I must say his last couple of runs have been quite good. Two back over 2200m at Doomben made up good ground behind Husson’s Pride before racing over that trip at Eagle Farm two weeks ago where he tried but was held late by Our Mantra. He’s working up to a win and do like him at this distange range.
Race 3. (12:43) First Asset Management Handicap (75) 1200m
1200m at Eagle Farm is better than 1200m at Doomben so despite staying at the trip, I think the set up is much better for 9 Macewen (Bet Now: $2.30) and am keen on him again. Was keen on him fresh two weeks ago but just look too long to wind up. Surged hard late and probably wins in another stride or two. Bigger track, longer straight, fitter…really keen on him.
1 Ditmas (Bet Now: $4.40) comes through the Boom Chicka Boom race from two weeks ago at Doomben when sitting wide no cover for the trip and the run just had to tell late, which it did, and he tired to run sixth. He’s going well this bloke, but again draws a sticky gate, so will need luck in running, but his best is good enough to trouble the Tony Gollan runner mentioned above.
7 American Genius (Bet Now: $20.00) is first up here. He raced three times during the Autumn, his best run coming first up when beaten narrowly by Dream Kisses. The two subsequent runs were below par so stable pinned the prep and sent him out for a break. Yet to miss a place in five first up runs so it appears fresh is best for him and stable is ticking along nicely at the moment.
Race 4. (13:18) Harrisons Menswear Plate (Class 6) 1200m
I’ll take a punt on 5 Reckless Choice (Bet Now: $5.00) first up. Steve O’Dea trains this gelding, who really came of age last time in, winning a couple of races, including one here. Been given a good break and loved the way he went about it in a recent trial win, beating Just Orm, who won impressively last Saturday. 1200m is short of his best, but has a touch of quality about him.
Fascinating runner is 1 Cadogan (Bet Now: $9.50), who resumes for the Edmonds camp. At the start of the prep, he was touted as a Stradbroke horse but was just fair first up here before being poor in the Luskin Star at Scone and was spelled. Thought he trialled up alright behind Impasse. His best would beat these…just prefer to watch him than back him at this stage.
4 Get Stuck In (Bet Now: $9.50) looks one of the more promising gallopers in Queensland so keen to see how he resumes. Son of Lucas Cranach for Tony Gollan who put it together last prep, winning three on the bounce before a game second to Kubis. Given a good spell and has had a quiet trial in readiness for his return. Look for him to get back and finish off strongly late.
Race 5. (13:53) QLD Bulk Storage Plate (Class 3) 1400m
12 Red Chase (Bet Now: $3.10) looks suited back to 1400m. He ran over 1800m here three weeks ago and tried hard when near the speed but weakened out of it late and the rider said post race that the horse didn’t run the trip out so back to 1400m I like. Three weeks to freshen up…is that enough time? I’ll leave that in the capable hands of Desleigh Forster but on form, the one to beat.
4 Six Sigma (Bet Now: $4.60) had trialled up well prior to resuming over 1200m at Doomben two weeks ago where he sat on what was a soft speed so he was entitled to kick on and he did, clinging on to just get the win. I think he’ll be much better when ridden with cover and a sit, so if that can eventuate here over the longer trip, I think he’ll take some beating against this lot.
Bette Harden has done a fab job with 5 Birikin Black (Bet Now: $8.00) in his career to date. All three runs have come at the Sunny Coast, winning his first two before running a game third to Enterprise Grand last start. Not sure what upside is left for the prep, which is a concern coming to the city for the first time, but hard to knock the way he’s gone about it to date.
Race 6. (14:32) Lady Williams Memorial Handicap (85) 1000m
Leaning the way, just, towards 5 Capital Connection (Bet Now: $2.60). Resumes for Tony Gollan after a pretty consistent prep in the Autumn, not missing top three in five runs, including two wins. Has a good overall record and does race well, as seen fresh last prep when placing behind the well performed Meet Mr Taylor. Looks one of the hardest to beat in a competitive race.
I think we’ll get a good guide as to how well 1 Whypeeo (Bet Now: $4.60) is going because this is the easiest race he has contested in a long time, but the drop in grade is warranted because his recent form at open level has been below par, the latest being two weeks back at Doomben behind Tarzan. His best would see him win this…been a while since he has showed that though.
4 Mogador (Bet Now: $8.50) has been pretty good in three runs back from a spell. He ran over 1050m at Doomben two weeks ago when sitting back off a slow tempo and really had no hope of picking them up but his finale was more than sound behind Boom Chicka Boom. Working up to another win and I think a fast run 1000m here on the bigger track will suit.
Race 7. (15:12) Ascot Green Handicap (80) 1600m
Giving 9 Granny Red Shoes (Bet Now: $9.00) another chance. Warmed to the task very late fresh behind Boomtown Lass before racing over 1350m at Doomben when wide no cover in a total forgive behind Auerbach. She’s lost all early zip so for mine, the step up to 1600m will suit her and she does have these on toast re class/quality, if she brings it here. Hoping she does.
2 El Campeador (Bet Now: $23.00) looks suited up to the mile after resuming over 1350m at Doomben two weeks ago when well back off the speed and was never really in the hunt but made up decent ground late behind Auerbach. Second up last prep he was poor but bear in mind he was coming back in trip rather than stepping up in trip, which is what he’s doing here. Knockout chance.
12 Perfect Witness (Bet Now: $15.00) steps up to Saturday grade but I thought his resumption at the Gold Coast was a definite pass mark. He resumed over 1400m where got back to near last in the run and found the line well late, producing good late splits, behind the Stakes performed Alaskan Sun. Up to the mile on the bigger track looks a good recipe and a win certainly wouldn’t shock.
Race 8. (15:52) Ascot Plaza Handicap 1400m
The safe option here is 8 Auerbach (Bet Now: $2.40) for Chris Waller. Thought it was a lovely ride from Maloney that got him the win two weeks ago at Doomben, fending off the late challenge of stablemate The Avenger, who of course franked that form last Saturday at Rosehill, which reads well for this and now being fourth up, he should just about be ready fitness wise.
3 Manaya (Bet Now: $2.40) is the class runner of the field and she should take some beating. Looked a good thing when racing at this track/distance three weeks ago and once she landed the box seat, it was game over, and she won impressively. Think there is a bit more depth to this line up, but like the way she’s going about it and has to be one of the leading chances.
1 Sovereign Nation (Bet Now: $11.00) hasn’t won in a long time but his recent efforts haven’t been too bad. Comes through the Manaya race from three weeks ago here where he attempted to lead all the way and gave a reasonable kick, but felt the pinch late. Think he’s better suited when ridden with cover, so if that eventuates, he’ll be dangerous and is certainly one for exotics.
Race 9. (16:32) One Fifty Ascot Bar Place (Class 3) 1400m
1400m at Eagle Farm…it’s time for 7 Sienna Rose (Bet Now: $2.60) to get a win on the board. Has been excellent in all three runs back from a spell, with short trips and tight tracks bringing her undone. She’s hard fit now and up to 1400m at Eagle Farm just looks perfect, especially against the mares at Class Three level. She’s one of the better bets of the entire day IMO.
4 Our Girl Silke (Bet Now: $8.00) had her first run for Kelly Schweida over 1200m at Doomben two weeks ago where she was in a reasonable spot early but continually kept getting shuffled back and that sealed her fate but the last 200m was excellent, the second quickest of the meeting, with Sienna Rose the only horse to produce faster late speed for the meeting. Up to 1400m, fitter, upside, bigger track…near double figures is silly.
Really interesting runner is 14 Highway (Bet Now: $12.00), a former Steve Englebrecht runner that is having her first run for Tony Gollan. Her form from when she raced in NSW was just plain, but gee I liked the way she went about her business in a trial at Doomben on Tuesday. Looked to move quite nicely and off that, looks to be a happy horse. Positive showing fresh certainly wouldn’t shock.
