The Parks track at Morphettville conduct a nine race card on Saturday where it is Oaklands Plate Day. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Oaklands Plate 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Oaklands Plate
Race 1. (12:07) Barossa Fine Foods (bm64) 1000m
Confident that 2 Lombardo (Bet Now: $1.80) can resume a winner for the Price/Kent camp. Talented galloper that resumes, over a year between runs since bolting up over 1300m when looking a very progressive horse. Has had two strong jumpouts to get ready for his return, handles wet ground and should lob into a lovely spot from the draw.
3 Great Leveller (Bet Now: $5.50) saves his best for the Parks track and should take beating here. Three weeks between runs since racing on the course proper here in a strong race and didn’t disgrace himself at all when third to Aadelad. Saves his best for the track/distance, lands on speed and will take a power of beating.
8 French Rock (Bet Now: $8.50) has found a new home with David Jolly and looks a leading contender. First run for the camp came over 1050m at Balaklava where he was hard in the market and under a lovely ride from Gatt, he finished best out wide and continued a strong fresh record. Fresh legs/early in the prep is best for him, so he commands respect.
Race 2. (12:42) Irish Race Day At Morph.-bm68 1550m
I’m with 5 Sebonna (Bet Now: $19.00) for the Hardacre camp. Resumed two weeks ago over 1400m at Murray Bridge. Just off the speed throughout and tried hard, but I reckon being fresh, his condition just gave out when fifth to Just Folk. Fitter, up in trip, should be in front and proving hard to get past.
11 Turn Table (Bet Now: $15.00) should prove hard to beat here for Jake Stephens. Ran over the mile at Murray Bridge two weeks ago. Just lacked a turn of foot to put them away but stayed on and was sound in defeat when fourth to She’s A Karaka. Think he’s a nice horse heading places and is a leading chance here.
7 Motell (Bet Now: $5.00) is flying this prep and is bursting to win a race. Both runs back from a spell have come at Murray Bridge, the latest being over 1400m two weeks ago, finishing off with real purpose late in the piece behind Just Folk. Big tick he gets to 1550m and got more upside than most.
Race 3. (13:17) Tab (bm82) 1000m
Sustained speed from the front I hope via 5 Sir Kalahad (Bet Now: $5.50). Landed big bets when winning two back at Sandown. Then went to 1400m at Caulfield last time out and tired late behind the very much in form Corner Pocket. Back to 1000m, with the gate, he should lead and run a very bold race.
10 Aadelad (Bet Now: $3.90) seems to have a liking for wet tracks and with rain forecast, have to be with him. He ran on the course proper here three weeks back on a bog when given a lovely steer by Vorster and drove hard late to get up and win. If the Parks is playing fair and not dynamite on speed, he’s the one to beat.
8 Thompson’s Reward (Bet Now: $12.00) is a talented animal for the David Jolly camp that resumes. Hasn’t raced since November 25 over this track/distance when close up behind a Stakes performer, Li’l Kontra. Can sprint well fresh, likes the Parks track, wet ground no issue and the jumpouts suggest he’s on track.
Race 4. (13:52) 36 South Beef Hcp (62) 1250m
1 Harpuna (Bet Now: $2.80) has a record of one win from eight starts, so on face value, he’s a nonny, but if you break down his runs, gee he has been unlucky on a number of occasions, including last start where he resumed at Murray Bridge. Was four and five wide no cover for the trip and did a remarkable job to finish as close as he did. Better luck and he can win this.
2 Obi (Bet Now: $7.50) is similar to Harpuna in the sense he doesn’t have a flash winning strike rate, but is honest and more often than not is around the mark. That was the case on his home track at Cranbourne last time out when back and closing off strongly. If he’s within range on the turn, he’s good enough.
8 Lohn Ranger (Bet Now: $8.50) is three weeks between runs for the Macmillan camp since racing over 1050m at Morphettville on the course proper. He tried hard and looked for a few strides that he would kick and win, but was nabbed late by The Big Goodbye. Just has to hold that form to be around the mark.
Race 5. (14:32) Oaklands Plate 1400m
6 Belle Of Yorkes (Bet Now: $9.50) is getting better with racing and the way she is racing, she should eat up the 1400m here. Big win from off the speed two weeks ago at Murray Bridge, finishing best and was strong to the line and through it, suggesting 1400m is idea and has got upside to come, unlike some engaged here.
9 Mac ‘N’ Cheese (Bet Now: $2.45) looks one of the hardest to beat. Team McEvoy filly that has kicked off her career in Victoria with a couple of runs, the latest at Sandown over this trip when back and charging late to just miss. Form around her reads well and this looks a very winnable race.
8 Roxy Blue (Bet Now: $21.00) deserves another chance. Market liked her fresh at Murray Bridge when she resumed over 1200m but she found very little in the straight when asked and was plain when fourth. Either she is a 1000m horse, or she just needed the run. Market will be the guide.
Race 6. (15:12) The Junction (bm60) 1400m
Going to have a throw at the stumps in the shape of 12 Pollyanna (Bet Now: $34.00). I don’t think she has been too bad in two runs back from a spell. Just looked in need of the run fresh behind The Big Goodbye. Then raced last Wednesday at Bordertown and was good late without threatening after getting a mile back in the run. If she is able to hold a forward spot from the gate, she’ll run a positive race at odds.
5 Fields Of Ivy (Bet Now: $3.10) should prove hard to beat back to this level. Was hard in the market in what looked quite a strong 64 at Geelong last time out but didn’t fire a shot and was rather plain, but the depth there was far stronger than what she faces here, so giving her another chance.
10 Marina (Bet Now: $7.00) looks to be in for a good prep. John Hickmott trained gelding that resumed over 1400m here two weeks ago. He was near the speed throughout after drawing wide and stuck on well in defeat when fourth to Just Folk. Fitter and on a track he likes, he does appeal.
Race 7. (15:50) Schild Estate (bm72) 1950m
5 Serious Spender (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Macdonald/Gluyas trained mare that is three weeks between runs since racing over the mile on the course proper here where she was somewhat plain late behind the in form Icecrusher but she is a mare who wants more ground and she gets that here, so with upside, and a good record at the track/distance, she’ll be hard to beat.
6 Stan The Caddy (Bet Now: $4.60) looks the one to beat for Will Clarken. Ran at Murray Bridge two weeks ago over 1800m. Attempted to lead throughout and gave a really good kick under Crowther. Just couldn’t quite finish it off and was nabbed late Irish Butterfly,a Victorian visitor. Hard fit, up to 1950m, he is the one for me.
Back up to 1950m I do like for 2 Classy Joe (Bet Now: $14.00). Ran over this track/distance two back and was good in defeat behind Not Usual Glorious. He then came back to 1800m at Murray Bridge and was good late in the piece behind Irish Butterfly. Like him back up in trip and is a definite winning chance.
Race 8. (16:27) Furphy (bm76) 1400m
8 Reynolds (Bet Now: $3.20) is a former Hong Kong galloper who did an excellent job in his first prep for Michael Hickmott. Hasn’t raced since the Carnival back on May 8 over 1800m when a strong winner on the course proper here. Interesting to see what plans are in store for this guy, because he does look a potential Country Cups type, potentially a Balaklava Cup. Market will tell you if he’s ready.
The Gelagotis team have had good success in the past when they come to Adelaide so giving respect to 9 Typhoon Harmony (Bet Now: $2.50), who has raced at Geelong at his past two. Lovely ride from Tianni Chapman saw him win two back before a close up second last time out. Gets a significant jockey upgrade and should be fine on wet ground.
Fresh legs is best for 10 Going Gaga (Bet Now: $26.00). He was so dynamic early on in the prep, noteworthy when he was several weeks between runs and here he is four weeks between runs since his last run, where he was plain. Loves the Parks track and off his earlier form, he can win this.
Race 9. (17:05) Weslo Security (bm68) 1300m
6 Spinola Bay (Bet Now: $9.00) won her maiden, finally, two back, and I think she’ll go on with it. That was a solid win and she then went to Murray Bridge where she chased strongly from off the speed, just missing out on the win when second to Zoushine. Extra 100m should be fine and she rates highly.
2 Great Diviner (Bet Now: $3.20) looks a talented three year old for Will Clarken and he should prove hard to beat in a race like this. Tough on speed win at Murray Bridge last time out. He was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure and was too good. Nearer the inside as well, which wasn’t the A1 ground so another tick in that regard. Hard to beat.
Fitter and up to 1300m are two big ticks for 10 Muffla (Bet Now: $31.00). Peter Blanch trained three year old that resumed over 1200m at Murray Bridge and I thought his finale was quite good from the back behind Zoushine. Whether he wants one more or a bigger track, not sure, but I think he’s in for a positive prep.
