17/6/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ipswich, Ipswich Cup day

3 Defiant Spirit (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a sharp juvenile for Stuart Kendrick. This juvenile was met with good market support when debuting over 1000m on the home deck at the Sunshine Coast and those that took the bigger odds knew what was going on as he made a mess of them and ran good time in doing so. Off that, 1200m is ideal and yes, more depth here, confident he measures up.

8 Deep Dawn (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Deep Field on debut for Tony Gollan and I think commands respect. She trialled in the Summer and was solid without a run. Stable spelled her, have brought her back this time in and her trial win at Doomben last Tuesday was a very sharp piece of work, winning comfortably and running solid time. Commands respect.

5 Mixed Spice (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here as a last start winner so in that regard, this filly commands respect. That win came over 1100m here on April 19 when settling off the speed before Marshall angled her into clear air and in a driving finish, was able to finish best. 1200m is the query with her but with an economical run in transit, she can pinch a first four spot.

10 Sailor’s Secret (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a three year old taking on the older horses but is racing well and will give a decent sight from on speed. He did that over 1350m at Doomben last time where he found the front and gave a solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Sunfall. Saves his best for this track and with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.

3 Rejoiced (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned in super order for Pat Webster and is one of the key threats. He led over 1200m here fresh and just missed out on the win when a narrow second to Moreton Bay before going to Toowoomba where he was a short priced favourite and justified the quote with a commanding all the way win. More depth here, but hard to knock him.

6 Beckford (Bet Now:  $SP.00) creates interest. Formerly with Troy O’Neile then Michelle Fleming, he now finds himself with Stephen Lee. His last run came in the Coonabarabran Cup in December when a game third to Knife’s Edge. He is a horse who can sprint well on the fresh side and his trial work has been more than encouraging, so watch the market and see what it does.

9 Eaglemont (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He has had two runs for Matty Dunn and has been strong each time, resuming with an eye catching fifth behind Brigantine before going to Doomben again where he loomed to win but had no answers late for the finale of Hype. Hard fit, more positive ride, he’ll take beating.

10 Pentito (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect. He is three weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Eagle Farm when on speed throughout and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off, running fourth to Yasuke, beaten just under two lengths. Good racing style in terms of versatility and the depth here isn’t as deep compared to last star, so he’s right in the mix.

5 Blacklog (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run an improved race. He ran in the Yasuke race from three weeks back at Eagle Farm where they rode him a touch warm I thought and it left him without much left for the straight, finishing down the track. I think he’s a much better horse when he has a bunny to chase and ridden patiently, so if that eventuates, he can be dangerous at odds.

4 Flensburg (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found good form since dropping back to Provincial grade and with that remaining the case here, I think he’s hard to beat. He has run here his past two, winning impressively two back before a closing second to Savvy Legend over 2170m. He has won up to 2400m so 2500m here should be fine and now he’s in form, he can go on with it and prove to be a leading contender.

1 Readily Availabull (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a beauty for Jack Bruce and commands respect. He ran just over two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast in a Heat of this Series when sitting off the speed before coming wide with clear air and momentum under Ben Thompson, driving hard late to get the job done. Unknown at 2500m but the way he keeps finding the line at 2200m, the rise in trip should be fine.

9 Hillcrest Avenue (Bet Now:  $SP.00) seems a very one paced type so the rise to 2500m, I think, is okay. He ran third to Readily Availabull two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast where he seemingly got every chance but couldn’t quite get there, finishing third. Think with an economical run in transit, 2500m should be fine, and he has shown a touch of quality at stages.

3 Deepour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good horse for Adam Campton and is the one to beat for me. He resumed two weeks ago in the Lightning at Eagle Farm and closed off his race from off the speed with purpose when third to a beauty in Petronius. Like him up in trip, he’s got a stack of upside to come and back a bit in grade/depth, he is clearly the one to beat.

6 Shamrock Lu (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run a much improved race back to this level. He is four weeks between runs since contesting the Chief De Beers at Doomben where he found the class a bit much, finishing down the track behind Mishani Sniper. He has been a bit off the boil this time in but this is one of the easier races he has contested in some time so he can prove to be quite dangerous.

9 Iced (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a great record at the track and that is his saving grace despite being potentially outclassed on paper. He ran in an 1100m scamper at Gatton last time and just couldn’t get involved when down the track behind Jemeldi. He tends to save his best for Ipswich and if they go hard in front, look for him to be launching at them late.

I think you have to give 1 Fashion Legend (Bet Now:  $SP.00) another chance. Magic Millions Guineas winner who hasn’t set the world on fire this time in but I think he’s had clear excuses in both runs back. Resumed in the Takeover Target when drawing gate one, where the inside was quicksand, so forgive and forget the run. He then went to the Fred Best when wide no cover from the gate and tired late behind Hawaii Five Oh. Hard fit now, back miles in grade/depth, he gets his chance to find positive form.

2 Swiss Exile (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality animal for Annabel Neasham that comes here three weeks between runs since contesting the Fred Best where he did no work in the run from the inside gate and seemingly had his chance but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Hawaii Five Oh. The end of 1350m is the slight knock with him but he has the runs on the board to command respect.

10 Mumbai Jewel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a talented filly that can certainly give this a shake. She is another that comes through the Fred Best where she just found them a bit sharp and couldn’t get involved when down the track behind Hawaii Five Oh. Back to this level is a big tick and with her absolute best, she is good enough to take this out.

On class alone, 1 Numerian (Bet Now:  $SP.00) wins surely? I thought he ran a super race last Saturday in The Q22 at Eagle Farm, getting back in the run and finding the line well enough without threatening behind impressive winner Without A Fight, who would be $1.50 against these. The back up should be fine for him and the depth here is nowhere near as strong.

13 Sneak Preview (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key chance IMO. David Vandyke trains this gelding and while he has been up a little while, he is seemingly holding his form pretty well. He won two back over 2040m at Doomben before going back to 1800m at Eagle Farm two weeks ago when back near last in the run but loved the way he found the line late behind Trevelyan. Up to 2150m now should be fine and is racing in just about career best form.

10 Wapiti (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a proven performer at a staying trip so the rise to 2150m should be fine. Gary Duncan trains this gelding, who ran two weeks back at Eagle Farm over 1800m and I thought closed off his race quite well albeit was never a threat to Trevelyan, beaten 4.5L but his late splits were solid enough relative to the race. Hard fit now and up to a suitable distance, he can run a much improved race.

12 Blaze A Trail (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is inform and with upside, rates highly. He was very good against the race shape and track pattern fresh in The Archer at Rockhampton before going to Eagle Farm three weeks back where he was well tried at odds and ran accordingly when second to Antino, who won like a star last Saturday. Hard fit now, he is the one to beat for me.

4 Gravina (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect. James Cummings trained gelding that ran a fortnight back in the Moreton Cup in search of a Stradbroke start but was never a factor in an on speed domination, with Prince Of Boom leading throughout and giving nothing else a look in. Back to this level and up in trip, he can run a much improved race.

7 Irish Songs (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done an outstanding job since joining Louise White. He has been thrown in the deep end his last couple and while he hasn’t won, he has been far from disgraced, the latest being in the Moreton Cup when back near last and making up good ground against the race shape behind Prince Of Boom. Up to a more suitable trip, I think he only runs well.

2 Better Get Set (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous. O’Dea/Hoysted trained mare that resumed in the Lightning at Eagle Farm in what was essentially a barrier trial for her given she got dragged back from the wide gate and was allowed to find the line nicely enough. You’d think there will be more intent this time around and she does have a good second up record. Big improver.

8 Hellfest (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is sneaky flying for James Cummings and I think commands respect here. This mare goes close to winning if she got clear air two back in the Helen Coughlan before backing up a week later and was very good from near last, beaten just under two lengths by Legal Esprit. Back to Mares grade again, form around her reads very well and the depth here, as a whole, isn’t deep.

19 Billiondollarbaby (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win and finds a very winnable race here IMO. She ran three weeks ago at Randwick and I thought did a good job to close off like she did, finishing third to Iowna Merc, who won again last Saturday to frank the form. The depth here is nowhere near as strong and third up from a spell, she should be ready to go.

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 12 Blaze A Trail

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 2 Better Get Set
