Makybe Diva Stakes 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Makybe Diva Stakes
Race 1. (12:10) Robert Cram Sprint (Bm78) 1100m
8 Fasuto (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the way I am leaning in what looks a very competitive race. Clinton McDonald trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since May 20 when racing down the straight here and closed off well enough I thought behind Vongole, finishing a close up third. He is a previous first up winner and did look sharp in a recent jumpout win at Cranbourne. He’ll sit back and be strong at the end.
2 Cause For Concern (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Shawn Mathrick, having not raced since August 5 when far from disgraced in the Aurie’s Star behind It’sourtime, but keep in mind he was nearer the inside, which wasn’t the spot to be. Prior runs proved he likes the straight course and back to 78 grade, he appeals.
3 William Thomas (Bet Now: $SP.00) is sneaky flying for John Price and is certainly in with a shout here. Forgive the last start effort on the Pakenham Synthetic, not really suited by the race shape but he did find the line really well. Another that loves the straight course and although will spot them a start, he will be finishing off with purpose.
Race 2. (12:40) Melbourne Cup Carnival On Sale Now 2500m
2 Interpretation… (Bet Now: $SP.00) this is D-Day for him. I have my doubts on him being a genuine Cups horse, but if connections want to head down that path, he has to be winning this race and I am confident he will. He has run at The Valley in both runs back, the latest coming three weeks ago when a closing second to stablemate Future History, backing up the super fresh effort. Hard fit, up to 2500m, good luck beating him IMO.
1 Serpentine (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the class of the field and that class will carry him a long way. He resumed two weeks ago in the City Tatts Cup at Randwick where he kept chasing despite being off the bit early and kept on in a good effort behind impressive winner Athabascan. Good upside to come and with runs on the board, he rates highly.
3 Point Nepean (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Team Hayes. He resumed several weeks back in the Premiers Cup where he just looked in need of the run and that’s how it eventuated when down the track behind Hosier. Solid 2400m+ record since arriving in Australia and while I doubt he wins, he can finish top four.
Race 3. (13:15) The Sofitel 1400m
3 Detonator Jack (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a horse I am keen on. I was keen on him running well a few weeks back in the Regal Roller. On the turn, when he was making a run, I thought he was the winner, but being first up, condition just gave way late in the piece, running a close up fourth. Fitter and can settle closer, he has a set up to run a beauty.
4 Kalino (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be around the mark for Chris Waller. He ran at Caulfield two weeks back where he got off the speed but presented to win the race in the straight. Just couldn’t quite finish it off and on the line, was safely held by a quality horse, Devoted. He has that 1400m run under the belt, which should hold him in good stead.
5 Nicolini Vito (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. He comes here for Team Hayes with fresh legs, having not raced since August 5 when contesting a fast run race at this track/distance where he just couldn’t quite handle the heat but kept on in a solid effort behind Edison. He does tend to race well on the fresh side and loves Flemington, so watch the market.
Race 4. (13:50) Poseidon Stakes 1100m
3 King’s Gambit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a top colt for Team Snowden and confident he resumes with a win. He hasn’t raced since the Golden Slipper where he was enormous against the pattern, working home strongly from the back to run third to Shinzo. He’s had two trials under the belt to get ready and with this being his look at the straight in readiness for the Coolmore, I think he’ll handle it and make a statement.
6 I Am Unstoppable (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a good colt for Lloyd Kennewell. Unbeaten record went on the line in the Vain several weeks ago and while the streak came to an end, he ran a super race in defeat, closing off with purpose behind Cylinder in a high rating race. Fitter, can settle much closer in the run, he’ll be around the mark I am sure.
11 Kandinsky Abstract (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Chris Waller trained galloper that has been kept on ice since the San Domenico where he got back to near last in the run and did make up headway without threatening behind Libertad. Gets a look at the straight with an eye towards the Coolmore…he is too good of a horse to pen off one run.
Race 5. (14:30) Exford Plate 1400m
I think the fillies hold a strong hand here. Leaning towards 16 Nodachi (Bet Now: $SP.00). She resumed three weeks ago at The Valley where I am not sure 1200m around the tight track was to her liking but didn’t mind the way she found the line late in the piece behind Inhibitions. Fitter, up to 1400m on the bigger track, I think she’ll run a much improved race.
15 Legacies (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks hard to beat for Moody/Coleman. She was kept quite safe in the market when resuming a fortnight back at Caulfield in the McNeil and although held late by Veight, she kept on in a strong return. She is proven at 1400m so the rise to seven furlongs is fine and with good upside to come, rates highly.
8 Griff (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be around the mark and is one for exotics. He ran three weeks back in the Up And Coming when landing outside the speed and for the most part, he looked like he would be right in the finish but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Tom Kitten. Not sure he wins, but is one for wider multiples I’d suggest.
Race 6. (15:05) Cap D'antibes Stakes 1100m
Good race this. Very rarely does a Queensland horse not measure up in Melbourne so with that in mind, I am in the corner of 5 Appin Girl (Bet Now: $SP.00). She did a super job in her first prep, which ended with a third in the Champagne at Doomben after being tardy away behind subsequent BRC Sires winner Cifrado. Loved the way she went in a recent trial win at Doomben and stable finds Zahra.
15 Estriella (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Maher/Eustace, having not raced since the Silver Shadow at Randwick where she looked the winner when presented but was nabbed near the peg by a nice filly, Autumn Ballet. Fresh legs and back to 1100m, I think she could easily explode, so watch the market.
22 Celestial Storm (Bet Now: $SP.00) has got a win on the board and she can certainly go on with it now. Thought she was terrible when resuming at Bendigo but she made amends when going to the Pakenham Synthetic where she looked a moral and duly saluted. Go back to last prep, she placed at Stakes level behind Brave Mead, so the form does read well and she has good upside to come.
Race 7. (15:40) Makybe Diva Stakes 1600m
It’s hard to get away from 1 Mr Brightside (Bet Now: $SP.00). He is a star for Team Hayes that is third up after being 2/2 this prep. Latest win was two weeks ago in the Memsie when wide no cover throughout and credit to him, he just kept finding and was there to be run down but class came to the fore to kick on and win. Flemington mile is ideal and hard fit, he appeals.
2 Alligator Blood (Bet Now: $SP.00) just missed out in this race last year and I think is ticking along nicely towards it again. I was keen on him when resuming in the Memsie and after getting a sweet sit on speed, he looked the winner at the top of the straight, but he couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Mr Brightside. Good upside to come, he rates highly.
5 Francesco Guardi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is ticking along very nicely towards the Cups. He was outstanding first up in the Winx Stakes, making up ground nearer the inside, which wasn’t the spot to be. He won’t be winning this, but look for him to find the line and keep ticking along beautifully towards later in the Spring.
Race 8. (16:20) Let's Elope Stakes 1400m
1 Amelia’s Jewel (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a top class mare for Simon Miller that makes her eagerly anticipated Eastern debut. WA mare that comes here with a big reputation given she has been the best horse in WA the last 12-18 months and rarely does a top WA horse not measure up in Melbourne. Has trialled super in Perth to get ready for the return and resuming 1400m against Mares, she is clearly hard to beat.
6 Wrote To Arataki (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Matty Williams trained mare that resumed a fortnight back in the Cockram at Caulfield and she was one of the real eye catchers of the meeting, closing off strongly behind the very much in form mare Benedetta. Love her at the Flemington 1400m and if she can settle closer in the run, she’ll take holding out.
7 Papillon Club (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improving type for Greg Eurell. This girl resumed in the Cockram two weeks back where she was tucked in behind the speed and was keen in the run. It probably took something away from her finale but that said, she wasn’t beaten far behind Benedetta. Fitter and up in trip, proven at Flemington, she’s an improver
Race 9. (16:55) Bobbie Lewis Quality 1200m
Good test here for 10 Najem Suhail (Bet Now: $SP.00) but he is absolutely flying this time in for Griffiths/De Kock. 2/2 this prep, winning impressively fresh at Flemington before going to The Valley three weeks ago when leading throughout at this trip and gave them a spanking in an impressive display. Takes on stronger company here, but hard to knock the way he’s racing.
8 Benedetta (Bet Now: $SP.00) seems the most obvious. Just a query of what petrol is left in the tank after the Cockram given she was wide no cover for the trip but Stackhouse kept his cool and the mare found late to wear down another talented mare, Parisal. I reckon the end of 1200m at this level sees her out but down in the weights, hard fit and in form, she clearly appeals.
7 Snapper (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be suited up to 1200m for Michael Moroney. He resumed a few weeks back in the Carlyon where he just found the 1000m a bit sharp but he kept finding the line in a pretty solid return behind Acromantula. Much better set up this time around and with good upside to come, ideal racing pattern, he’ll take running down.
Race 10. (17:25) Australian Childhood Foundation Plate 1700m
3 Makram (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a good second up record so don’t dismiss him. He resumed over the mile at Caulfield several weeks back where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, he did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat behind Jimmy The Bear. Has the potential to settle much closer in the run and his best is clearly good enough.
14 Let’srollthedice (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep for Danny O’Brien. He resumed a fortnight back over 1400m at Caulfield where he got off the speed and found the line well enough without threatening behind Devoted in a solid effort. Might want one more, but he has home track advantage and getting up in trip, I think he only runs well.
11 Suizuro (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one that can pinch a first four spot. He resumed at Caulfield two weeks back over 1400m where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, I didn’t mind the way he found the line late in the piece behind Devoted. He is a 2000m+ horse so he likely needs another run but he does have a bit of quality about him when right.
