Race 1. (15:29) Drummond Golf Plate 1100m
1 Bustling (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the one to beat. Dan Morton trained juvenile that debuted two weeks ago, landing on speed comfortably and he was trucking before being clicked up and he dashed away late for a dominant win. Natural improvement to come and despite a tricky gate, he rates highly once again.
6 Muddy Waters (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Blue Point for Dan Morton that is on debut. This guy has had two trials to get ready for start one and each time, he has looked pretty good, the latest being a close up third over 1000m at Belmont. Maps okay to my eye from the gate and he should be strong at the end. One of the leading contenders.
4 Rise To Glory (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Susan Olive since racing over 1000m here when wide no cover throughout and that hard run just told late in the piece behind Blue Rocket. Maps to get a much better run in transit this time around. Not sure he wins but a first four threat.
Race 2. (16:04) Bisley Workwear (Bm72+) 1000m
6 Almighty Class (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very smart three year old for Mitch Pateman that resumes. This guy had a two run Spring prep, resuming with a bang before a narrow second in the Belgravia behind a star filly, Super Smink. Trialled up really well in readiness for his return and with eyes on The Quokka, you’d think he’s relatively forward for this assignment and he just has lengths on them IMO.
2 Cut The Talk (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Oratorio that resumes. He really came of age when last in work, with his last prep ending with a close up placing in the Summer Scorcher on Perth Cup Day behind Ghost Who Walks. Nice trial to prepare and with a good racing style, he appeals as a threat.
3 Premium Choice (Bet Now: $SP.00) is four weeks between runs since racing down the straight at Pinjarra where he got back to near last in the run and made up good ground late, beaten a length by Nurhaci in a good effort. Tricky gate to overcome but if they overdo it in front, he’ll launch late.
Race 3. (16:39) Amelia Park (Bm66+) 1200m
1 Ice Pick Nick (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks like he is enjoying life with Dan Morton. Formerly with Maher/Eustace, first run for Morton came three weeks ago at this track/distance where he got complete control in front and despite being out of petrol tickets late, he had enough in hand to score. Looks like he will lead again and take running down.
4 Budgerigar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a model of consistency for Team Pearce and should be around the mark. He was racing well in town without winning so the stable sent him to Esperance for a kill and he got it, giving them a start and a beating in a strong display. Good track/distance record and off a win, commands respect.
2 Above The Peg (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Blackfriars for Simon Miller that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Dec 9 over the mile here when a fair way out of his ground but liked the way he found the line late in the piece behind Starry Heights. He is a horse who can sprint well on the fresh side and has trialled up really well leading in. Watch the market.
Race 4. (17:19) Glenroy Chaff (Rs1mw) 1000m
5 Sonoftheboss (Bet Now: $SP.00) to produce sustained speed from the front. He resumed two weeks ago at this track/distance where he led, copped pressure, and tried his guts out, but couldn’t quite see it through when run down late by Golden Fighter. If he leads and doesn’t spend too many petrol tickets, he’ll take running down.
8 Cheeky Charlotte (Bet Now: $SP.00) is suited back to 1000m. She is three weeks between runs since racing over 1200m here where she attempted to lead throughout and did give a strong kick but 1200m saw her out, tiring late when third to Angel Undercover. Like her back to 1000m and with the 1200m run under the belt, she should be strong at the end.
1 Magnalee (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a tick under three weeks between runs for David Harrison since an on speed winner down the straight at PInjarra. Credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and get the win. Good test here but gets a kind map. Knockout chance.
Race 5. (18:00) Tabtouch - Westspeed Platinum (Rs0ly) 1600m
8 Marinsky Ballet (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top for me but this isn’t a race I want to be involved in. Dan Morton trained mare that has had two runs back from a spell, both coming here. Just looked in need of the run fresh before going to 1500m two weeks ago where she got back off the speed and worked home well without threatening behind Boab Boy. Hard fit and up to the mile, she is the way I am leaning.
3 Lord Gannicus (Bet Now: $SP.00) is absolutely bursting to win a race for Team Williams. He has finished runner up his past two, the latest coming at Bunbury last Saturday when on speed and tried his guts out but found one better, and a good one at that I feel, in Forever Boy. Racing well, knocking on the door and strikes a winnable race.
5 Wozzeck (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a tricky gate to overcome but he comes here off a win. That win came last Thursday at Pinjarra where he produced a strong finale from near last, rounding them up for a big win. His best efforts do generally come away from Ascot but the way he won last time, I am not penning him.
Race 6. (18:35) Natasha Stakes 2200m
2 Miss Skyhigh (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the winner of this race and for mine, the winner of the Oaks as well. She got back to near last in the run in the 1000 Guineas two weeks ago but she really caught the eye late in the piece when second to Own The Queen. Gets the weight pull on that filly here and with a more kind map on the cards, I think good luck beating her.
1 Own The Queen (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a ripping filly for Justine Erkelens and commands respect. This girl was a dominant winner of the 1000 Guineas, getting the sweet sit in transit from behind the speed before angling clear and she was dominant late, drawing clear to win and win well. Bred to eat up further and despite creeping up in the weights, she commands respect.
4 Kinellins Legacy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver. Luke Fernie trained filly that took on the older horses at this track/distance last time where she got back in the run and did make up ground but was never a factor, with the market drift proving spot on. Not sure I could back her to win but a must for exotics.
Race 7. (19:15) Peters Investments (Rs1mw) 1400m
I am a fan of 8 Wubin Gold (Bet Now: $SP.00) and she looks to be in for a good prep. Colin Webster trained filly that resumed three weeks ago over 1200m here where she had the suck run in transit and she tried her guts out but found one better in Angel Undercover. Fitter and up to 1400m, kind map in her corner again, she’ll take beating.
1 Thehorseman (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beauty for Neville Parnham and rates highly. He won a fortnight back at this track/distance, getting the sweet sit in transit before angling clear and finished best to win nicely. There is depth to this line up, but hard to knock how well he is racing. Leading contender.
3 Cerridwyn (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing really well for Michael Lane. He is three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when wide no cover for the trip and that hard run just told late but that said, he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Lord Vampi, finishing third. More economical run in transit, he’ll be around the mark.
Race 8. (19:50) J.C. Roberts Stakes 1800m
2 A Lot Of Good Men (Bet Now: $SP.00) was given a sore back from Harvey in the Lex Piper and I think he can and will make amends for it here. He was brave in the Lex Piper two weeks ago, sitting wide no cover throughout and he was as game as ever in defeat when a narrow second to Russian To The Bar. He ran so well at this track/distance in the Northerly and any hint of that effort here, he wins.
1 Russian To The Bar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a slight query at 1800m but he has the runs on the board and has a kind map. He won the Lex Piper a fortnight back, again getting the suck run in transit before Parnham angled him clear and he let down with purpose to win well. If the trip is okay, he’ll be around the mark.
3 Autumn Rebel (Bet Now: $SP.00) has had a couple of runs at the mile and he’s racing like he wants 1800m, where he is a track/distance winner. Seemingly had every chance in the Lex Piper from off the speed but was still far from disgraced in defeat, beaten two lengths. Not sure I could back him to win but he is a must for exotics.
Race 9. (20:25) Mrs Mac's (Bm66+) 1600m
9 Royal Toronado (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks right on track for the Derby. Team Williams trained galloper that ran fourth in the Lex Piper a fortnight back. He got a fair way out of his ground and spotted those in front too much head start but I really liked the way he finished his race off when a close up fourth. Racing here vs the JC Roberts I find interesting but he’s well above average.
I am convinced that 8 Cosmic Crusader (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very good three year old. He just has no idea what he is doing upstairs. I was keen on him when he resumed two weeks ago in the Lex Piper but he was very keen on speed and didn’t have much left for the straight behind Russian To The Bar. Think with better racing manners, he is Stakes class and is hard to beat.
3 Cash Away (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing in the Bonjoy race mentioned above. He got back in the field and made up some ground in the straight but was never really a threat behind Bonjoy. Not sure he can win given the tricky map but he is a must for exotics.
