16/12/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick

Ten races will be run and won at Randwick on Saturday. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

I think they’ll go hard in front here so it will set up for a closer and I reckon that closer will be 7 Skogafoss (Bet Now:  $SP.00). James Cummings trained colt that debuted over 900m at Newcastle where he seemingly had no idea what he was doing but the last 200m, he picked up and was very good late behind Deep Joy, who ran well last weekend in the Nursery. Fitter, up in trip, can see him sitting back and launching late.

1 Amazing Eagle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is going to be the hype horse leading in given his flashy trial win, where he won by a space and the clock backed up what the eye saw. It was an impressive piece of work. Hard to beat, but I will say, he is going to cop heat on speed here. Can he handle it and still be able to finish the race off?

3 Moonraker (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a nice colt for Team Snowden. He debuts off the back of a trial at Newcastle over 800m where he seemed to go about his business quite nicely I thought when second to Highness. The stable have had a relatively slow start to the season with their juveniles but with the Magic Millions around the corner, I expect this camp to start firing, potentially starting with this guy.

7 Herb (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a beauty for Ben Smith. He ran last Friday night at Canterbury where the tactics were to be ridden more forward but he got back to near last and while he was never a threat, he did make up headway in a good effort behind Burning Need. He has run well at Midway level previously and 1600m on the bigger track should be ideal.

4 Tympanist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a hard horse to catch at times but he does have talent when he’s on. That was seen last start on the Kenso when well supported late and under a peach from Chad Schofield, he finished best for a strong win. That was at 1800m so back to the mile I find interesting but he does find a very winnable Midway.

1 Awesome Lad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with his best. Jason Deamer trains this guy, who was a strong winner two back at Doomben before going to the Kenso where he led and didn’t find much in the straight when down the track behind Cloudland. Back to this level, he can easily bounce back.

10 Zouphoria (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the straight bat play. GaiBott trained filly that got the maiden win out of the way last start on the Kenso, sitting on speed throughout before being clicked up and giving nothing else a look in to win quite comfortably. Steps straight to Saturday company but she maps to lead and looks so well in at the weights.

2 Cross The Rubicon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Brad Widdup. Just looked in need of the run first up behind Eagle Nest before stepping up to this trip two weeks ago and she ran a much improved race when third to a very in form mare in Lekvarte. Third up now so she should be hard fit and this race doesn’t appear deep re depth.

6 Monfelicity (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Vadamos mare for David Payne that resumes. She hasn’t raced since Sep 6 when midfield on the Kenso behind Sir Bailey where she did make up ground but was one paced in doing so. She does have a liking for Randwick, she can sprint well fresh and her trial was encouraging. Watch the market.

2 Toesonthenose (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for John Sargent and it’s hard to get away from him. He was unbelievable in the Four Pillars and since then, he has gone right on with it, winning at Newcastle before backing up a week later and spanked them at Rosehill. Not sure what upside there is but really, he only has to hold his form and he’s the clear horse to beat.

Fitter and up to 2000m are two big ticks for 5 Secret Glamour (Bet Now:  $SP.00). This mare was met with solid support at odds when resuming three weeks back at Kembla but she just looked in need of the run, struggling to pick up in the conditions behind King Of The Castle. She has a great second up record and back on a firmer deck, she can be a big improver here.

9 Philipsburg (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a beauty for James Ponsonby. He’s generally thereabouts, around the mark…doesn’t win out of turn but that said, he was a strong winner two weeks back in a Midway at Rosehill, lapping up the little bit of cushion in the track to finish best. Has run well at Saturday metro level before so don’t dismiss him.

1 Emperor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should take beating here for Matty Dunn. He resumed in a Highway on Big Dance Day at Randwick where he looked a good thing on paper, the market agreed and he gave them a start and a beating in an electric return. He’s come back a different, better horse since being gelded, and I am confident he can measure up to Saturday metro grade. Keen on him here.

13 Accapella Sun (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Matty Dale trained mare that is third up and should be hard fit. She has had two runs back from a spell and each time she has been ridden stone cold, the latest being at Kembla on Gong Day where she got a mile out of her ground and did make up headway without threatening. If she can get a half positive steer and settle closer, she’ll take holding out.

2 Blow Dart (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in the mix. He resumed on Big Dance Day here in the Highway mentioned above where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a decent sight but couldn’t quite see it through behind Emperor. He’ll give cheek and is a must for exotics.

7 Accredited (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a talented animal for Joe Pride and confident he can make it 2/2 this prep. Resumed on the home deck at Warwick Farm where the market said he had three legs and would need the run but nobody told him that as he came with a strong finale from off the speed to score. He’s a line finder and a winner so with good upside/improvement to come, happy to be in his corner.

5 Castillian (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a fascinating runner. Formerly with Patrick Payne, he now finds himself with Joe Pride and we know the record this stable has when it comes to a tried horse. He’s better suited over further but his two trials to get ready have been more than encouraging and if they go silly in front, he will be stronger than most at the end.

3 Fine Vintage (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Luke Pepper and has earned a crack at Saturday metro level. 3/3 for the new camp and each win, he has been quite dominant, with a couple of wins at Scone. Good test here, but in well after the claim, okay map…think he can measure up and run a positive race.

11 Louisville (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a horse for Chris Waller that I have plenty of time for. He was a superb winner fresh at Canterbury before going to the Kenso where he seemed to lost the plot on the turn but picked up in the straight and was very good late behind Cloudland. Hard fit now and the depth here as a whole isn’t overly deep.

15 Naval College (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Dartmouth for Annabel Neasham that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since July 1 when placing over 2400m at Rosehill behind stablemate and talented animal Fawkner Park. He’s had three trials to get ready for his return so he’s got the grounding and is right down in the weights, so watch the market and see what it does.

14 Kirkeby (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Kermadec for Chris Waller that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Sep 2 when down the track in the City Tatts Cup behind Athabascan, who was flying at the time. Just one soft trial to get ready so may need the run, but he has a touch of quality when right and overall, this isn’t a deep race.

11 Louisville (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a horse for Chris Waller that I have plenty of time for. He was a superb winner fresh at Canterbury before going to the Kenso where he seemed to lost the plot on the turn but picked up in the straight and was very good late behind Cloudland. 8 Plundering (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Annabel since racing over 1200m at Kembla on Gong Day where he was on speed throughout and tried his guts out but on the wet track, he just lacked the change up speed and tired late behind With Your Blessing. Back on top of the ground/firmer footing this time around, hard fit, and I think with a more patient steer, he can bounce back.

9 Contributingfactor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a David Atkins trained five year old that ran on Gong Day at Kembla three weeks back where he got back in the run and although he was never a winning threat, he wasn’t too bad in defeat behind With Your Blessing. He’ll love getting a rise in trip and on a firmer deck, I think he can run an improved race at a likely decent price.

5 Dollar Magic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me but not really a race I want to get involved in. Scott Singleton trained mare that ran two weeks ago at Rosehill where she was near the speed throughout and loomed to win but couldn’t quite get there when second to Legio Ten. Hard fit, racing well…she’ll do me.

4 Squad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) resumes for Team Hawkes and I think he is dangerous here. He is first up, having not raced since May 10 when ending the prep on a high with a dominant win at Sandown when leading throughout. He has a good fresh record and will be strong late so I think watch the market and see what it does.

7 Xpresso (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Nathan Doyle trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Sep 23 at Rosehill when down the track and looking a tired horse behind Tristate. Trial work to get ready has been strong and maps ideally.

10 Contemporary (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been racing like a coming winning and it could easily come here. His last couple of runs have come over 1200m, the latest being a few weeks back at Kembla on Gong Day where he took a little while to wind into his work but was pretty good in the run to the line behind With Your Blessing. Firmer footing, he’s dangerous.1

11 Shohei (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a big improver here for Team Hawkes. This mare resumed at Rosehill a few weeks back where the market took a set against her, saying she would need the run, and that’s how it panned out, settling on speed and tiring badly the last 100m behind Salisano. Better for the run under the belt, she appeals big time here because she does have a touch of quality about her.

2 Dalaalaat (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a consistent animal for Nathan Doyle that is rarely far away. That was evident on Big Dance Day here when attempting to lead throughout and giving a strong kick but couldn’t quite see it out, run down late by Capo Strada. The break between runs is fine, he’s a dry tracker and he strikes a winnable race IMO.
