SA metro racing this Saturday heads to Gawler. Weather is fine, track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:57) Irongate Australia Handicap (78) 1500m
2 Midnight Mass (Bet Now: $SP.00) is absolutely flying for the Bain/Taylor camp and rates as one of the hardest to beat. He ran over the mile at Morphettville three weeks ago in the Country Final when leading throughout and he wasn’t getting beat from a fair way out, winning quite comfortably with a safe margin in hand. Been up a little while but certainly isn’t going backwards in form. The one to beat.
3 Magnetic Edge (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing so well for Hickmott/Riggs and he has to be rated as one of the hardest to beat. Thought he was a good thing when racing a fortnight back on the Parks track and under a lovely steer from Price, he was too good, just. Not the best of records at Gawler but that said, two of those runs were in a Gawler Cup, and this race isn’t of that quality.
1 Montign (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the class of the field and he loves Gawler. That said, he was a flop at this track last start in the Gawler Cup but to be fair to him, he was wide no cover throughout and just couldn’t get involved behind Chicago Storm. Prior efforts were very good and he does get in quite well after the claim so I’d watch the market.
Race 2. (13:32) Crane Services Handicap (64) 1700m
4 Bond Street Beau (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Clarken/O’Shea. First run for the new stable came over 1550m on the Parks track two weeks ago where he was very one paced when asked for the effort but stayed on and was sound enough in defeat I thought behind Magnetic Edge. Fitter, up in trip, good upside, he rates highly.
5 Dazzling Prospect (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Barry Campbell and rates highly. He was kept very safe in betting last time out in the Clare Cup and under a peach from Dom Tourneur, he finished best for a strong win. This looks a significant drop in depth and he isn’t harshly treated at the weights IMO. Hard to beat.
2 Thrill Kill (Bet Now: $SP.00) has run well at Gawler previously and strikes a winnable race for Peter Hardacre. He ran a fortnight back on the Parks track where he got the sweet sit in transit behind the speed but couldn’t take advantage of the run and was a bit on the plain side in the straight behind Magnetic Edge. His best is certainly good enough so don’t pen him.
Race 3. (14:07) Matrix Solar Solutions Handicap (Class 2) 1700m
5 Jewel De Lune (Bet Now: $SP.00) took a little while to break the maiden tag but now that she has, she can go on with it now. She dropped to a moderate maiden at Clare last time for the maiden kill but it was indeed a kill. She made a mess of them and was impressive the way she put them away. Had been knocking on the door to win and now that she has, her confidence is up and she can continue her winning ways.
4 Missile Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been up a while but she is a mare that is holding her form really well. She ran two weeks ago on the Parks track where she got back in the run and took a while to wind into her work but was very good late when third to the above average mare Fancify. Depth here isn’t as deep and for mine, she only has to hold her form.
3 Rebel Consortium (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Andrew Gluyas. This mare resumed two weeks back on the Parks track in the Fancy race mentioned above. She got back in the run and failed to make up any real headway behind the Hickmott mare. Like her up in trip, good upside to come, she’ll be around the mark.
Race 4. (14:42) Commercial Hospitality Services Handicap (1MW) 1200m
4 Hallstatt (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look for Richards/Moyle. He was too bad to be true two weeks ago on the Parks track, getting back in the run and not getting involved at all in a pretty plain effort behind impressive winner Shootoose. He has been teasing to win this prep and if you can forgive last start, prior efforts were solid enough to say he can take this out.
11 Suggestive Miss (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one for me. Travis Doudle trained mare that ran in the Viddora Final three weeks ago where she was wide with cover before being presented wider and finished off strongly, but couldn’t reel in all the way winner Starlite Valley. Back miles in depth here and off last start, she’s hard to beat.
3 More Reward (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a talented mare that resumes. She is better suited over a bit further but she is a mare who has an engine under the hood and is a Saturday class mare. She hasn’t raced since the the Adelaide Carnival when down the track in the Centaurea behind Thought Provoking. She does tend to race well on the fresh side and although she’ll concede a start, she should be strong at the end.
Race 5. (15:17) LJ Hooker Property Specialists Gawler & Barossa Handicap (78) 2100m
2 Arugamama (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found a purple patch and it’s hard to get away from her. Andrew Gluyas has this mare flying, winning two on the bounce and each time she has been arrogant, the latest being two weeks ago on the Parks track when bolting up over 1950m. 2100m should be no issue and really, she only has to be holding her form to win again.
1 Yuri Royale (Bet Now: $SP.00) is unknown at the trip but Team Jolly has him going well. He ran second to Arugamama a fortnight back on the Parks track, where he tried his guts out to go with the mare but just didn’t have the quality. He was comfortably held but that said, he comfortably beat the rest, so I think he’s there to pick up the pieces should the favourite be off her game.
8 Campobasso (Bet Now: $SP.00) saves his best for Gawler. Team Alexander trained gelding that ran over this track/distance last start when just off the speed throughout and seemingly had every chance but couldn’t quite pick up late in the piece behind Exopipi. If this track was a bog, he’d be a near good thing, but on a firm deck, he’s more of a first four contender.
Race 6. (15:52) Gawler Races Goes Pink Jan 6 Handicap (62) 1200m
2 Shooting For Stars (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks like she will win races for Clarken/O’Shea. First run for the stable came two weeks ago on the Parks track where she got back to near last in the run and spotted those in front too much head start but I did like the way she found the line late behind My Ruby. Fitter, up in trip, can settle closer in the run, hard to beat.
3 Smiling From Above (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Merissa Moyle trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since May 6 when midfield and far from disgraced in defeat behind Toast The Deel, a promising mare who was flying at the time. Switched stables, trial work has been encouraging, market watch for sure.
7 Lucky Fortuna (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look. She resumed on the Parks track two weeks back over 1000m where she was a total forgive, sitting five wide no cover throughout and rightfully dropped out to tire behind Vintage Star. She has the talent to measure up and back up in trip again, she can run a much improved race.
Race 7. (16:32) Adrian Underwood's 60th Birthday Handicap (Class 1) 1100m
5 Regal Dancer (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. Team Jolly trained gelding that resumed in a maiden over 1050m at Balaklava where he was impressive from off the speed, charging clear late for a dominant win in a sharp return. Good test here against some likely types, but I think he goes pretty good.
All you can do is win and that is what 1 Brave Action (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done. 1/1 to start his career, with this Grant Young three year old producing sustained speed from the front to win on debut two weeks ago on the Parks track. There is a bit of depth to this Class 1 but he has a good racing style it seems and will give cheek.
9 Vexatious Dancer (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks like she has talent. Big win from her here last start, sitting wide no cover throughout and despite covering extra ground, she kept finding and was too good for them in a sharp display, with a gap to third. Both career runs have seen her sit wide, so she has ticker and is proven at the track. Definite winning chance.
Race 8. (17:12) Gawler Arms Hotel Handicap (74) 1200m
6 Press Down (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Peter Hardacre. He ran over 1100m at Morphettville three weeks back when off the speed before being presented wider and for a few strides, look the winner, only to be run down late by Wakanjeja. The form around him reads quite well, he’s hard fit and I do think 1200m will be okay.
2 Jacks On Ice (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Valentia that resumes for Team Jolly. This guy is first up, having not raced since July 22 when producing an end of prep run when down the track behind Picargo on the Parks track. Given a good break, he is a previous first up winner and has trialled up really well in readiness. Hard to beat.
10 Cool Magnum (Bet Now: $SP.00) is back on track. I thought he was a moral at Naracoorte two back but he was the first horse gone, beaten 13 lengths, and was found to be lame post race. Came back to 1000m on the Parks track two weeks ago and he was very good from the back when third to Vintage Star. Back up in trip, he’s found positive form, I wouldn’t be dismissing him entirely.
Race 9. (18:00) Bronwen Darrall Memorial Handicap (64) 1500m
8 Imposing Suspect (Bet Now: $SP.00) tends to save his best for Gawler and with that in mind, I think he is the one to beat. I was disappointed with his effort at Murray Bridge two back after receiving a 12/10 steer. He came here last time where he got the dream run in transit again but this time he took advantage of it and was dominant in winning. Hard to beat off that effort.
5 Tametomo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver at odds. He resumed two weeks back on the Parks track over 1400m when doing work early to land on a very solid tempo and being first up, doing that work, he had to tire late and that he did behind Branders Rule. Had trialled well prior to that so if you can forgive the first up effort, he’s in with a shout at odds.
2 France’s Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable. Hickmott/Riggs trained gelding that resumed in the Branders Rule race from a fortnight back on the Parks track. He had a box seat sit and seemingly had every chance but didn’t finish the race off at all. He is a winner at Gawler previously and has an element of class on his side vs most of these.
