Race 1. (11:53) Ladbrokes Yard Comments Hcp 1200m
8 Tango Fever (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top for me. Quality filly for Rob Heathcoate that resumes. She had a two run prep in the Summer to start her career, running a narrow second on debut at the Gold Coast before going to the Nursery at Randwick and was outclassed behind Saltaire. Loved the way she went in a recent Doomben trial win and fresh at 1200m tells me she’s ready to go.
9 Mina’s Legacy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Spill The Beans filly for Kris Lees that is on debut and I think she’s dangerous. She’s had two trials in NSW to get ready for start one, the latest seeing her win a trial a couple of weeks back at Gosford and seemingly moved very well I thought when winning in decent enough time. Stable is going well with their juveniles so watch the market.
7 Five Star Vixen (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a talented filly for Jay Bellamy that resumes. This girl has shown good promise in two career outings, catching the eye on debut behind party For Two before going to Eagle Farm where she was plain and spelled soon after. Can’t find a recent trial for her but off the debut run, I think she has the engine under the hood to run well here, so watch the market.
Race 2. (12:28) Country Music Raceday 9/9 (C3) 1000m
2 Nord Lyon (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Chris Anderson trained gelding that comes here with fresh legs. This son of Better Than Ready is several weeks between runs, having not raced since June 18 when a dominant all the way winner over 1000m at the Sunny Coast. Short course racing is his go in life so like him at 1000m and with a nice tick over trial under the belt from last week, he appeals.
4 Devastating (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Exceed And Excel that resumes for Tony Gollan. This guy is first up, having not raced since June 4 last year when down the track in the QLD Day behind Athelric. Given a long break, over 12 months, and his trial win last week at Doomben was outstanding. Market will be fascinating to see if it says if he’s ready to go.
6 Onika (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with Maher/Eustace, she now finds herself with Kris Lees. This mare had her last run for the former stable at Benalla when a strong winner from near the speed where she found under pressure. Now with Lees, her two runs have been more than encouraging and she is a mare who can sprint well on the fresh side.
Race 3. (13:03) Teddy Bears Picnic (Bm78) 2200m
5 Inuwashi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Team Sears and has to be rated as one of the hardest to beat. He has won his past two, winning two back at Doomben over 2000m before stepping up to this track/distance where he was quite strong in winning given Chernek was there to beat him but he found under pressure and safely held them at bay. Deserves a crack at Saturday metro grade and is one of the hardest to beat.
6 Just A Jedi (Bet Now: $SP.00) finds a very thin race if he runs to anywhere near his best. Ryan/Alexiou trained gelding that ran at Rosehill a fortnight back where he seemed to get every chance from behind the speed but couldn’t finish it off when down the track behind Fawkner Park. Back in trip and back miles in grade/depth, I think he can run an improved race.
11 Port Mourant (Bet Now: $SP.00) won’t know himself back to 78 grade compared to last start when contesting the Caloundra Cup and while he was safely held by Zoumon, I thought he was far from disgraced in defeat. This is a massive drop in grade/depth for him and I think all things being equal, he only runs well against here IMO.
Race 4. (13:38) Mekkafest 19 August (Rs0mw) 1400m
1 Meritable… (Bet Now: $SP.00) is it last chance territory? I am saying it is. Two runs for Annabel, resuming at Doomben and was very plain I thought behind National Choice. He then went here when at the midweeks and seemed to get every chance but was no match late for Freedom Rally. Third up, hard fit, and with class on his side…it’s D-Day.
3 Titanium (Bet Now: $SP.00) has an awful racing pattern but it hasn’t stopped him his past two with a couple of electric wins, firstly at Gatton before letting down hard nearer the inside to win at this track/distance at the midweeks. This isn’t a strong Saturday metro race and he is a last start city winner. If he’s within range, he’s got the finale to beat them.
8 Petunia (Bet Now: $SP.00) is suited back to 1400m and can bounce back. Four weeks between runs since racing on Ipswich Cup Day over the mile and ran an honest race but couldn’t quite see the trip out behind Mississippi Prince. Like her back to 1400m and with Antino form, gee it reads well for a race like this. She can run a much improved race.
Race 5. (14:13) Xxxx Dry Hcp 1805m
8 Cygnet River (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be a really nice horse and confident he can measure up against these. He has been excellent in two career outings, both coming at the mile, the latest seeing him win here when giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display. He’ll love the rise to 1800m and he’s got more upside than most. Appeals big time.
3 Texas (Bet Now: $SP.00) has won at 2100m when racing in New Zealand so 1800m here should be fine. He ran a fortnight back in the Winx Guineas when unwanted in betting but didn’t mind the way he found the line late without threatening, beaten four lengths by a potential star, Knight’s Choice. That was only his second run for Brian Smith, so he’s got room for improvement and good upside compared to most.
2 Red Top (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a track/distance winner and can run an improved race. He was unwanted in betting two weeks back in the Winx Guineas at the Sunny Coast where he got back from the wide gate and did make up headway but was never really a factor behind Knight’s Choice. This looks more his level and he is proven at the trip, which is a tick against most of these.
Race 6. (14:52) Mount Franklin (Bm78) 1600m
I think 10 Five Crowns (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth something small each way for Kris Lees. This guy returns to Queensland after a stint in NSW where he has run well for the most part but was a tad on the plain side at Canterbury last time when down the track. He is 1/1 at Eagle Farm, he maps to settle much closer in the run and the depth here looks a bit on the thin side.
4 Canasta (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Jack Bruce, finishing runner up in both runs for the stable. Latest run was two weeks back at the Sunny Coast where he was near the speed throughout and fought on superbly but just couldn’t quite finish it off, running a narrow second to Ancient Girl. Like him up in trip and third up, should be hard fit.
2 Mix (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a slight query at the mile but he does have good upside to come and strikes a winnable race. He was several weeks between runs when racing over 1400m a fortnight back at the Sunny Coast and I thought he found the line well enough in defeat behind Ancient Girl in a solid effort. If he gets an economical run in transit, 1600m should be okay.
Race 7. (15:32) Sky Racing Hcp 1400m
9 Fleetwood Maca (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. O’Dea/Hoysted trained mare that resumed six weeks ago at Doomben over 1200m and I thought she was very good from off the speed, closing off with real purpose when second to Legal Esprit. The break between runs I find fascinating but she’ll love getting to 1400m, she has a touch of quality and will be strong at the end.
2 Blaze A Trail (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up Maher/Eustace after a big win last Saturday at Doomben when wide no cover for the trip and given the run he had, he was entitled to knock right up but he kept finding under pressure and surged hard late to win. Maps to get a much better run in transit and on the firmer deck, he clearly appeals.
6 Shaquero (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been frustrating to follow for some time but he is a horse who is clearly good enough to take this out. Ran two weeks back in the Glasshouse and seemed to get a decent enough run in transit but just couldn’t quite put them away, beaten just under two lengths by Irish Songs in a bunched finish. Has that 1400m run under the belt, which should hold him in good stead.
Race 8. (16:08) Racecourse Village (Bm85) 1200m
2 Kinloch (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a leading contender. Kris Lees trained gelding that is second up after resuming here three weeks ago. He was racing over 1200m where he got back to near last in the run and was a real eye catcher, launching late to finish third to Lasting Kiss, beaten 1.4L. Like her up in trip and I think with a more positive ride, he’ll take beating against this lot.
1 Manhood (Bet Now: $SP.00) returns back to Brisbane and he is dangerous for Annabel Neasham. His last run came at Randwick back on June 10 when hard in the market but failed to fire when running last behind Lady Of Luxury. Saves his best for Eagle Farm and if he can land on speed without doing too much work, he’ll take running down.
5 Fastconi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a big improver here for Nat McCall. Formerly with Chris Waller, he had his first run for the new stable on the home track two weeks back at the Sunny Coast over 1000m where it was more or less a barrier trial for him, getting badly held up when wanting to build the revs. Maps to get a suck run and fitter, up to 1200m, he’s dangerous.
Race 9. (16:43) Gallopers Sports Club Hcp 1200m
2 Northern Express (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. He was met with market support at the Sunny Coast when resuming two weeks ago over 1000m and while he was never a winning threat, I did like the way he finished his race off, beaten 1.3L by Matilly. He’ll love getting to 1200m and with a more positive ride, settle closer, he’ll take beating.
4 Vodka Martini (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another chance. He was well supported at the Sunny Coast fresh but unfortunately for his fans, he was caught wide no cover on speed and that early burn just told on him late behind Matilly. He has a good record at 1200m and with natural improvement, provided there is petrol left in the tank, he appeals.
8 Great Barrier Reef (Bet Now: $SP.00) would likely spank these if he brought somewhere near his best. Problem with him is that he just doesn’t know how to put a race to bed. He ran two weeks back at Rosehill when back in the run and made up headway but was never really a threat behind stablemate Waveriver Buoy. If the inside gate is used to advantage, I think he can run an improved race.
