Group l racing returns to Brisbane this Saturday at Doomben where it is Doomben 10,000 Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

5 Beau Ideel (Bet Now: $4.50 TOP ODDS) has the A1 form to be taking this out. James Cummings trained galloper that bumped into subsequent Stakes winner Enchanted Heart fresh at Canterbury before running behind Lost And Running at Randwick three weeks ago. That is clearly very strong form lines for a Class 6.

6 Gee Tee Tee (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) should prove hard to beat for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp. He was heavily backed when resuming three weeks back here. He should have just about got the job done but didn’t get the rub of the green in the straight behind Cardiff. Off that, convinced he’s come back well and is a definite winning chance.

9 Moonshine Lady (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is a short course mare so the 1110m I see as a positive. Ran two weeks ago over 1200m at Eagle Farm. Sat on speed throughout and she tried hard, but the six furlongs at this level just found her out behind Fender. Looks a definite winning chance against this lot.

A genuine case of how…how didn’t 2 Reloaded (Bet Now: $3.10 TOP ODDS) win the Tails Stakes three weeks back. He looked all over a winner when looming but he wanted to lay in under pressure and just missed out on picking up Olmedo. He doesn’t want any rain to come so the weather forecast will determine how strong his chances are.

3 Fabric (Bet Now: $3.30 TOP ODDS) comes here as a last start Stakes for Danny O’Brien. That win came two weeks ago in the Queen Of The South where she was given a peach by Williams and surged hard late to get them near the peg. Overall, this is a pretty thin Stakes race and being a last start winner at this level, she has to be rated highly.

6 Barefoot (Bet Now: $21.00 TOP ODDS) is one I can include in wider multiples. She ran down the track in the Tails Stakes behind Olmedo but she was back near last in the run and given the way the day panned out, that wasn’t the spot to be at all. Much better suited here in the smaller field and she is capable of being dangerous at odds.

3 Love Tap (Bet Now: $2.60 TOP ODDS) is a talented animal for the Freedman camp that resumes. Interesting he dodged the Autumn given he looked a potential Derby candidate. Not sure what they have in mind for him but he does have class given last start, he ran fourth in the Spring Champion. Trial in Sydney was sound and stable have had recent success when coming to Brisbane.

11 Incredulous Dream (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS) comes here as a last start Stakes winner and at set weights, she is really well in here. It wasn’t the strongest Stakes race she won last time out on the Parks track at Morphettville but it was 1400m and she was strong to the line. On breeding, she’ll love give in the track. Just needs luck from the draw.

7 Palladas (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS) deserves another chance. Tony Gollan trained three year old that resumed two weeks ago on that very testing Eagle Farm track. He got a mile back in the run but I did like his finale without threatening. Fitter and up in trip, he has the talent to give this a shake against some quality opposition.

3 Warning (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) clearly on top for me. Team Freedman trained four year old that was disappointing in the Australian Cup. Freshened up and ran over 1700m at Flemington on Anzac Day when warming to the task late in a good effort behind Vassilator. His 2000m form includes a run in the Turnbull when beaten a length by Verry Elleegant. Any hint of that here and he’ll be winning.

1 Hang Man (Bet Now: $3.60 TOP ODDS) has been up a little while but is racing in great form for the Moroney camp. He ran in the JRA Plate three weeks ago and worked to the line pretty well in what I thought was inferior ground at that stage of the day. Form out of that has been ticked off big time via Zaaki, which clearly reads well for this.

6 So You Win (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is going well I feel. Was keen on him when he ran at Eagle Farm a fortnight back. I thought he was there to put the race to bed, but just felt the pinch and couldn’t finish it off when third to Victory Eight. He is racing in good form. Now just needs to put a win on the board.

Is 6 Maotai (Bet Now: $7.00) one out of the box? Hadn’t trialled publicly but someone knew the engine was under the hood when debuting at Ipswich given he was $5.5/$3.6 and really, the way he won, he may as well have been $1.60. He went like an absolute jet and relative to the day, the time was very good, so I’m confident he can measure up here.

10 Miss Hipstar… (Bet Now: $7.00) how good is she? Kelly Schweida and Larry Cassidy keep telling anyone that would listen that she’s top shelf and that she will be even more effective when ridden with a sit. Drawing wide throughout her career, they’ve had to use her early to find a decent spot, and it has been effective, winning three of her five career outings, the latest being the Dalrello two weeks ago. I think she’s one of the hardest to beat.

7 Prince Of Boom (Bet Now: $4.80) is on the quick back up here for Rob Heathcoate here which I find interesting. Debuted at the Sunny Coast on Sunday where he was backed off the map late and punters got it absolutely spot on as he charged home from off the speed, spanked them and won with something in hand. I’m keen to see how he goes at Stakes level straight away.

8 Senor Toba (Bet Now: $2.70) looks a potential star and the main threat to Explosive Jack in the Derby. He was big odds when winning the Frank Packer but SP aside, it was an outstanding win and a win of a horse who just looks the A1 Waller type for the Brisbane Carnival. Has to be hard to beat here.

7 High Supremacy (Bet Now: $3.40) is going well. Should have won the Carbine Club two back before going to the Frank Packer. Ridden positively and tried hard, but just no match for Senor Toba. He’ll take benefit from having that 2000m run under the belt and stable have had good success when coming to Brisbane this season.

4 Kukeracha (Bet Now: $7.00) should be suited up to 2000m for Chris Waller. Was second up when racing in the Queensland Guineas two weeks ago. Just a bit one paced in what was a truly run mile but he stuck on and was good in defeat. Will that flatten him here and then he’ll bounce into the Derby? He’s in the right stable to bounce.

I think if ever 9 Wild Ruler (Bet Now: $5.50) is going to win a Group l, this is his race. The map just looks perfect for him from the good draw, whether he takes the sit behind Splintex, or holds his line and potentially lands 1/1. He showed super ticker to win the Arrowfield Sprint and Prague franked the form with a great effort in the All Aged so I think he’s the one to beat.

Is this an afterthought for 2 Eduardo? (Bet Now: $1.80) The Brisbane Winter Carnival and afterthoughts is usually a recipe for disaster, but he is the top class runner of the field, boasting a win this prep over Nature Strip. Ran third to that horse in the TJ Smith, which is clearly A1 form for a race like this.

6 Vega One (Bet Now: $17.00) is heading towards the Stradbroke and looks to be going along nicely. Jury was out after a plain resumption but he was much better in the Victory Stakes. 300m out he looked the winner. Just reckon condition gave out late. He’ll be near cherry ripe for this and should do no work from the draw.

3 Athiri (Bet Now: $3.30) looks the safe option. Not sure what to make of her run in the Hawkesbury Crown. Yes, she was held up and didn’t get the best of paths in the straight, but was she going any good, certainly any good to trouble Sweet Deal? I’m saying no, but you go back to last prep. She was held up/unlucky one start and then went right on with it to eventually become a Stakes winner. Map is perfect for her and she has credits in the bank to forgive last run.

The weather will determine the winning claims of 1 Fiesta (Bet Now: $8.50) and how strong they are. Few weeks between runs since contesting the Sapphire where she loomed to be a threat when slicing her way through the field. Just couldn’t quite finish it off behind Fasika. Tick over trial was a lovely piece of work and she has class.

13 Maozi (Bet Now: $15.00) is a key threat for me. Team Edmonds has this mare flying I feel. Trialled up like a jet prior to resuming three weeks back here. Got back in the run, which wasn’t ideal for that meeting. Loved the way she picked up and closed off late. She’s Stakes class and can definitely measure up here.

I reckon this is a lovely race for the James Cummings mare 7 Segalas (Bet Now: $9.50). She brings to Brisbane the Lost And Running form from three weeks ago at Randwick, where most think he is a Group l horse in waiting. If he indeed is heading towards that level, that form just reads far superior to anything engaged here, and her run behind him was very good.

Michael Costa has 11 Axe (Bet Now: $3.50) absolutely flying at the moment. Positive ride three weeks back saw him win at this track/distance. Problem was he bumped into a really nice horse in Skins. He’s got the right racing pattern and would love a drop of rain to hit the track, because he is effective on soft ground.

3 Cristal Breeze (Bet Now: $5.00) does deserve respect. But, I just query was he flattered when winning the Provincial Championship Final. He got a good speed in front, and further to that, Bowman produced one of the rides of the Championships to get him home given he came from a wide barrier and was able to slice his way through. Hard to beat, but I’d want close to double figures before entertaining.
