15/5/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Scone, Scone Cup day

It’s different to previous years but the Scone Carnival gets underway this Friday with a strong eight race card, highlighted by the Scone Cup (1600m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

6 Married To The Mob (Bet Now: $4.20) resumes here and I think he’s a big watch. First up for Kris Lees, having not raced since early January when not beaten far at the Gold Coast behind Wisdom Of Water, who went on to run a beauty in the Magic Millions, so that form reads very well for a race like this and the two trials leading in have been quite good.

3 Lost And Running (Bet Now: $1.75) is a Per Incanto gelding for John O’Shea that is on debut. This three year old has had two trials in readiness for start one, the latest coming last week at Randwick over 740m when winning the trial and looking pretty good to the eye in winning. Stable rarely travel them to the country, but when they do, they should always be respected.

Doubt 11 Dolladream (Bet Now: $61.00) wins, but for multiples, certainly would be including her. I’d be willing to pen her last two runs where she has been wide no cover each time and has faded out of the finish. Three back had the 1/1 and battled away well to place at Armidale. Not sure she’s good enough to win, but can fill a first four spot.

Going the way of 16 Important Product (Bet Now: $5.00) for Kurt Goldman. Two year old that resumes, having not raced since his debut back on November 20 at Rosehill when run off his legs in the field of five but made up ground late, albeit eight lengths away from Hinchbeast. Two trials leading in have been quite good and first up at 1300m tells me he’s ready to go.

2 Danza In The Dark (Bet Now: $8.00) looks to have his share of talent. Loved the way he found the line from the back on debut here when second to Black Sunrise before going to Tamworth when five wide throughout and was a total forgive. Was well backed late at Tamworth so respecting that market support here from a much better gate.

11 Mother’s Day (Bet Now: $3.60) is third up here for Rod Northam and should just about be at peak fitness. Both runs this time in have come over 1100m here, the latest seeing her run third to Warrah Flash after seemingly getting every chance just off the speed. Yet to be tested beyond 1100m, but has the right racing pattern to put herself into the race and give herself every chance.

1 Live And Loaded (Bet Now: $2.90) looks the best on the program. Very progressive son of Shocking for John O’Shea that made his Australian debut over 1400m at Kembla where he had the suck run on the fence before angling into clear air and the last 200m, gee he put them away like a good horse. Third horse bolted up next start so that form reads well and this guy should love 1600m on the spacious track.

3 Chariots Of Fire (Bet Now: $4.60) is a son of All Too Hard for the John Thompson team that comes here off the back of a maiden win over the mile at Goulburn where he didn’t beat a great deal, but he gave them a proper spanking with something in reserve and the form out of that race has been franked with a winner to come out of it. Has to be respected.

10 Souchong (Bet Now: $23.00) looks the likely leader and will give a sight I’m sure. Led throughout to break the maiden tag at Muswellbrook last start, running along at a decent clip and gave them something to chase, and they couldn’t get past her. Think 1600m will be okay for her and she’ll give a sight despite some good depth engaged here.

Think 4 Go Gadget (Bet Now: $11.00) is worth a gamble here. Debuted over 900m at Muswellbrook where he got back to near last in the run but loved the way he picked up and found the line late when a narrow second to One To Remember, and actually clocked the best last 600m of the meeting. He’ll eat up 1100m here and be strong late.

10 The Bopper (Bet Now: $1.70) looks the one to beat of the raced brigade. Debuted in a 2YO race at Tamworth when heavily backed and duly saluted in impressive fashion, running sub 56 for the 1000m, which is low flying, even for a fast track like Tamworth. He ran two lengths quicker than the 58 over 1000m and around eight lengths quicker than the maiden over the same trip. On form, clearly the one to beat.

16 Slice Of Heaven (Bet Now: $9.50) is a daughter of Rubick for Colt Prosser that resumes. After this girl won at Grafton, there was suggestions she was going to head towards the Inglis Millennium, but instead was spelled and thought her trial at Kempsey was more than encouraging. Looks a real professional, puts herself on speed and will give a sight.

19 Special Privilege (Bet Now: $12.00) should love the rise to 1100m off a good speed. Debuted with a pretty slick with at the Sapphire Coast over 1000m before staying at that trip at Canberra last time and finished off with purpose late when second to Tejori, who won the Highway last Saturday at Randwick, so the form reads well and I think up to 1100m, off a good speed, he’s very likeable.

2 Van Giz (Bet Now: $2.60) has only won the one race from seven outings for Bjorn Baker but she does have good ability. Was absolutely enormous in defeat at Wyong last time out when three and four wide no cover throughout yet despite that, took the front and looked home, only to be nabbed late by Bollywood. That form I do like so hopefully gets on speed without doing too much work early.

15 Two Up (Bet Now: $21.00) is a son of Dane Shadow resuming for the David Atkins team. This three year old hasn’t raced since November 13 when breaking the maiden tag over this track/distance when doing work on speed but showed good ticker late to fend them off and win. Form is a tad suspect, but thought the recent trial was encouraging and draws soft.

He’s an old mate of mine 5 Drachenfels (Bet Now: $12.00) but I’ll give him a chance here in a wide open race. Had a freshen up, trialled enormous, and ran at Grafton last Monday when specked at longer odds and he was a real eye catcher from the back when third to impressive winner Vacate. Last time he was at 1400m, he placed in town behind the Stakes winner Sweet Deal. That 1400m form reads far superior to anything engaged here.

2 Hit The Target (Bet Now: $2.60) is a Stephen Jones trained gelding that comes here in form after giving his rivals a spanking in a strong Class 4 at Bathurst on Anzac Day, and he ran sub 1.20 for the 1400m, which is really slick going. 2/2 on his home track here and did run second in a Country Championship Qualifier so he has the ability to measure up here.

16 Editors (Bet Now: $101.00) at $91+ looks a tad on the silly side and would not shock me at all if he filled a first four spot. Did a power of work at Grafton last time out, sitting wide no cover for the trip. Produced the best 800-400m split of the race and that effort just told late given it was his first run in six weeks. Takes good improvement from that and Brooke Stower does have a good record when combining with Ross Stitt.

Pretty keen here on 10 Live And Free (Bet Now: $4.50). This just looks the perfect set up for this John O’Shea galloper. Trialled up enormous prior to resuming in the Hawkesbury Cup just under three weeks ago at Rosehill when very good from the back after being tardy away when second to Amangiri. Looks a real target race, and the big track, long straight, should suit him.

Giving respect to 6 Military Zone (Bet Now: $4.60) for Team Snowden. Resumed over 1400m at Randwick four weeks ago and really liked the way he finished his race off when a close up fifth to Ranier in a race where the form has been good. He goes much better second up and was sharp in a trial win last week at Randwick. Dry track is key, and he should get it here.

The saver bet for me in this race is definitely 1 Sixties Groove (Bet Now: $27.00) because he has a few lengths on these in terms of class. Resumes for Kris Lees, having not raced since the Wyong Cup when tailed off down the track and was found to be 2/5 lame post race. Loved his recent trial at Gosford and if you forget the Wyong Cup, only other fresh run for Kris Lees saw him run third in the Hawkesbury Cup.

4 Bollywood (Bet Now: $3.90) is flying this prep for James Cummings. Resumed over 1000m at Wyong and clocked some of the best late splits of the meeting when second to Axe before going to Gosford where she sat off a good speed and came with a well timed run to nail a handy one in Van Giz, again clocking great late sectionals. She eats up 1300m and bigger track should be no issue.

11 Deepwood Vale (Bet Now: $7.50) is a daughter of Redoute’s Choice for Paul Messara that resumes. This filly hasn’t raced since September 27 over this track/distance when an impressive winner, beating up a quality field and the form out of that has been strong with five winners to come out of it. Has had three trials to get ready, and first up on a big day on the home track, suspect she’ll be wound up to go fresh.

9 Morpheus (Bet Now: $13.00) looks hard to beat here. Resumed for Cameron Crockett over 1100m here back on April 21 when wide throughout without cover and battled away quite well in defeat to run third. Kept up to the mark with a trial last week at Muswellbrook and looked pretty good there. Definite leading chance.
