Ten races will be run and won at the Gold Coast on Saturday for Jewel Day. Weather is fine, track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

9 Tuhinga (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been up a little while but is flying. He ran over the mile at Doomben three weeks ago where he got too far back on a day where up/in was suited but I really liked the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Shadow Power. He’ll get back again but launch at them late.

12 Jovita (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1700m for Lee Freedman after racing over 1800m a few weeks ago. She got into a decent spot near the speed and presented to win but just couldn’t quite get there, but the winner Barazin is a good horse on the up, so that form reads well and back to 1700m, she rates highly.

14 Calm Seeker (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran over the mile three weeks back at Doomben where he did early work to land on speed and that early burn just told on him late in the piece behind Shadow Power, who was ridden a treat and duly saluted. Better run in transit, he can threaten.

Keen to be 3 Waltham (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Matty Smith trained stayer that resumed in the Parramatta Cup where he got back to near last and was never a factor behind Our Anchorage. Like him drawn to get a soft run in transit, be effective late and has a stack of upside. If they want to go to the Sydney Cup, he has to be winning this

5 Double Cherry (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with his best. He resumed over 1900m at Canterbury when ridden cold and was somewhat unlucky late in the piece behind O’Ziggy. I was giving him a shout in the Canberra Cup last week so he has to be respected here.

9 Chassagne (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. Strong winner two back at Doomben before going to Eagle Farm when ridden off speed. Stewart then decided to take off around 700m out for some reason and hit the front, but was a tired horse early on in the straight and felt the pinch. More patient steer, she can win.

Confident that 1 Caspernova (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can measure up and keep on his winning ways. His win four weeks ago was arrogant. It wasn’t a deep 70 but the way he put them away, and how easy he did it…gee it was a good piece of work. He is destined for better races than this, so keen to be in his corner once again.

4 About To Explode (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can measure up here for Tony Gollan. He has won his past two, firstly at the Sunny Coast before going to Eagle Farm where he gave them a start and a beating, letting down hard late to get up and win. Good test here, but think he runs well.

16 Miss Bayles (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bursting to win for Kevin Kemp. She ran several weeks ago over 1200m at Doomben when off speed and worked home with real purpose late in the piece when a close up second to Valetudo. More positive ride, she can win for sure.

5 Tribeca Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is using this as a final tune up for the Country Championships Final but he does look above average. He won the Qualifier at Lismore where he was tardy away but ended up in a lovely spot and once that eventuated, it was race over and he was far too good. Hard to beat.

17 Shihab (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. First run for Lawrie Mayfield-Smith came at Doomben three weeks ago when against the pattern, he got back off the speed and was held up at times but was pretty good late in the piece. Fitter, bigger track, he can threaten.

16 Centrestone (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run an improved race with a more patient steer. She ran at Eagle Farm four weeks back and I think they just rode her too warm, which left her empty late in the piece behind Northern Decree. More quiet ride, bunny to chase, she can improve big time.

1 Chinny Boom (Bet Now:  $SP.00) returns to Clinton Taylor after a stint with Moody/Coleman where she didn’t quite measure up in solid races, so she’s back with Taylor, been given a good break and her trial work to get ready has been electric. Hard to beat.

13 Mighty (Bet Now:  $SP.00) returns to Tony Gollan after a stint with Moody/Coleman. Latest run was Feb 1 at Sandown when given a 12/10 steer by Shinn, cuddled for as long as possible before exploding late to score. Form out of that race has been electric and she is a mare who looks well set up here.

5 Burning Bell (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is four weeks weeks between runs for the Edmonds/McLean camp since racing over 1000m at Eagle Farm where she got into a dream spot off the speed before angling wider for clear air and let down with purpose late to win and win well. Home track advantage and off a win, has to be respected.

3 Pretty Dubious (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should prove hard to beat for Rob Heathcoate off the back of a win in the Prelude three weeks ago for the Boys. Yes, the pattern was in his corner, but even allowing for that, he was quite dominant late in the piece. 1200m is no issue, good racing style…just not sure on him with a bog track.

4 Satisfied Mugs (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here as the dominant juvenile in North Queensland and with short course form, but he does look a sharp juvenile whereas some of these look legless. Big thing going for him is that he swims and has a good racing style. Leading contender.

16 Piggietales (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks like she has an engine under the hood. She debuted at Eagle Farm four weeks back behind Love To Torque where she got back off the speed and was never really a winning threat, but I did like the way she finished her race off in defeat. Better for the run, I think she’s a threat at odds.

1 Astapor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a better horse on firmer footing but he has class/quality on his side. He resumed in the Prelude three weeks ago at Doomben where he was badly held up at times before eventually getting clear and working to the line quite well in defeat behind Dream Smart, who was smashed in betting and duly won. Fitter and up in trip, if the wet track is fine, he takes beating.

8 Dream Smart (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was the subject of a big plunge when a first up winner a few weeks back at Doomben. She landed in a plum spot from the draw and once she got clear air, it was race over and away she went to win and win well. Like her up in trip and has to be respected.

7 Mr Bubbaluski (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should be at peak fitness. He ran over this trip at the Sunny Coast last time when off speed and kept finding the line without threatening when a close up fifth. Hard fit, he’ll be strong late and is a knockout hope.

13 Red Top (Bet Now:  $SP.00) won this race last year and looks to be ticking along nicely to defend the crown. He ran over the mile three weeks ago at Doomben where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up good ground and was an eye catcher behind Kronenbourg. Good record here, handles wet ground, rates highly.

6 Political Debate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) does have an element of class on his side and has to be respected. He ran a fortnight back at Randwick over 2000m where he was just off the speed and tried hard but just lacked the class to go with them late in the piece. Much better suited at this level and rates highly for me.

10 Wapiti (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1800m after racing over 2200m three weeks back at Doomben. He landed on a very moderate speed and just lacked the change up speed to go with Diablo Bolt but he stayed on and was pretty good in defeat. Back in trip, good racing style, he’ll be around the mark.

1 Hatchet (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was a total forgive from three weeks ago at Doomben where he copped early interference and that pretty much sealed his fate when down the track behind King Kapa. He won’t mind give in the track and can settle much closer in the run.

6 Red Defcon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but does come into this as a last start winner, that win coming at Doomben a few weeks back where she got miracle splits between runners and savaged the line to score. She can go on with it.

2 Corfe Castle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has home track advantage and can run an improved race. He ran three weeks back at Doomben where he was near the speed throughout and presented to win when asked for the effort by Callow but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Red Defcon. His best is good enough to threaten.

2 Piastri (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can resume a winner for me. Ciaron Maher trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since Sep 7 at The Valley when off speed and held up at times but had his chance and was plain behind Miss Aria. Given a good break and has trialled up quite well for the return, so keen to see how he goes.

6 Flag Hall (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes through the Burning Bell race from four weeks ago at Eagle Farm. He had a reasonable run in transit and was game in defeat but just felt the pinch late in the piece but was far from disgraced in defeat. His best is good enough.

3 Flaming Conquest (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the short course specialist here and with front end control, he will give a good sight. He was a track/distance winner last start, leading throughout and was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to win. She’ll more than hold her own.

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 13 Red Top
