Race 1. (13:40) Schweppes (Bm84) 2400m
2 Golden Century (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top for me. Chris Waller trained four year old that is in a purple patch, winning the maiden two back at Canterbury before repeating the dose in style at Kembla where he made an absolute mess of them. Heading in the right direction, he takes beating.
1 Kings Valley (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since racing over 2000m here. He lobbed on speed and tried hard but had no answers late for the brilliant finale of stablemate Gilded Water. 2400m should be fine and this isn’t an overly deep contest.
4 Ferago (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout chance. He ran fourth in the Ansett Classic at Mornington where the race shape was against him but he stayed on and was a definite pass mark in defeat behind Whisky On The Hill. That form reads well and he’ll be strong late.
Race 2. (14:15) Mrc Foundation Pin & Win (Bm70) 1600m
3 Regal Award (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a three year old with an engine under the hood. He ran at Sandown last start behind Navy Pilot where not much went right for him and he pretty much went around like it was a barrier trial in the end. If the handbrake comes off, he’ll take beating.
1 Tagline (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in a purple patch for Matt Laurie and has earned a crack at a race like this. He has won two on the bounce, firstly on the home deck at Mornington before proving it was no fluke with an impressive effort at Sale. Good test here, but think he can measure up.
4 Mahers Landing (Bet Now: $SP.00) is progressive and on an upward spiral for Beggy. Down the track on debut behind Regal Award at Sandown before going to a Geelong maiden where he gave them a start and a beating in an impressive effort. Harder here, but think he runs well.
Race 3. (14:50) Ive > (Bm70) 1440m
7 Sneaky Sunrise (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over this trip at Sandown when attempting to lead throughout and she gave a strong kick from the front but had no answers late for Steel Trap. Fitter, good racing style, she appeals.
5 Shadhavar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Tom Dabernig trained mare that was a strong track/distance winner last start. She led throughout and was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and win. Good test here with more depth, but hard to knock last start.
3 Porter (Bet Now: $SP.00) hasn’t quite fired a shot in two runs back but third up, should be hard fit and is capable. He looked to be trucking in the run at Flemington last start but when asked for the effort, he folded in the straight. He has to be included in exotics, especially with the claim.
Race 4. (15:25) Debutant Stakes 1000m
4 Tornado Valley (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the way I am leaning in what looks a dartboard job. Ciaron Maher trained colt that has had a couple of jumpouts to get ready for start one, each time impressing, especially the latest when winning at Cranbourne. Has the inside gate to guide it and gets M Zahra.
8 Rachini (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Corstens/Larkin trained juvenile that has looked the part in jumpout work at Flemington, winning her only piece of work by a space and ran very fast time, so she appears well educated for start one and the market likes her.
1 Commit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Profiteer on debut for Price/Kent and the stable would love to get this guy going and winning given they trained the sire. He moved well in a recent trial win here on the Heath course where D Lane rode and he sticks. Watch betting.
Race 5. (16:00) Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives (Bm78) 1100m
5 Grand Larceny (Bet Now: $SP.00) should prove hard to beat for Team Hawkes after a first up second over 955m at The Valley where he just found Beast Mode too sharp but he kept finding the line to finish second. Fitter, kind map, bigger track and more ground, he takes beating.
11 Sweethearted (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained four year old that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Tobin Bronze during the Adelaide Carnival when far from disgraced behind Reserve Bank. Likely spots them a start but will launch late.
2 Rich Fortune (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Beast Mode race mentioned above. She got into a reasonable spot off speed and tried hard but was never really a factor. Not sure she is good enough to win but can run first four.
Race 6. (16:35) Johns Lyng Group (Bm78) 2000m
6 Jaykayann (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps each way. Total forgive first up a5 Sandown given she was back in a race completely dominated on speed, win by Farhh Flung. Much better set up here…may want one more, but she’s a big enough price to speck.
3 Makdane (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran third in the Farhh Flung race. He had a suck run behind the speed and was there to win. Just think he lacked change up speed when it mattered. 2000m should be fine, he’s one of the leading contenders.
1 Wonder Kit (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 2000m after resuming over 1800m at Sandown behind Charterhouse. He got back to near last in the run and in a race dominated on speed, he was never really a factor. Much better suited at this level, he can improve out of sight.
Race 7. (17:10) Coongy Cup 2000m
11 Quietness (Bet Now: $SP.00) was seven weeks between runs when racing over the mile at Randwick when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat behind Fortune. Fitter and up to 2000m, despite the tricky gate, she’s one of the hardest to beat.
7 Statuario (Bet Now: $SP.00) has come back really well for Team Browne and has to be respected. He did a fair bit of work in the Naturalism and though held by Half Yours, the run was full of merit. Hard to beat if he can overcome the barrier.
3 Mark Twain (Bet Now: $SP.00) probably needs to do something here if he wants to progress to a Melbourne Cup. He did too much chasing work in the Bart Cummings and rightfully dropped out to run well and truly down the track behind Valiant King. His best sees him win this so don’t dismiss him.
Race 8. (17:45) Warren Huntly Memorial (Bm84) 1440m
5 Sunshineinmypocket (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up in trip after resuming over 1200m at The Valley where nothing really went right for him when it mattered, driving hard late to just miss. Hard to beat with luck from the gate.
3 Ndola (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned really well and is one of the key chances. He resumed with a win at Morphettville Parks where he knuckled down with purpose late and class came to the fore. Fitter and up in trip, confidence is up, he can win.
4 Scheelite (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Keys trained gelding that resumes. He ended last prep with a solid effort at Morphettville in The Cummings. 1400m fresh signals some level of intent and he’s jumped out well.
