1/4/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben

Brisbane racing this Saturday continues at Doomben for a handy eight event meeting. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out 3.5 metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (13:27) : The Old Boathouse Handicap 1050m:

Back Me: 9 Boom Boom Epic  (Bet Now: $6.00) is a daughter of Sebring on debut for the Toby Edmonds yard. Trialled well in October before being tipped out. Trialled again recently on her home track and looked to go quite nicely. It will be interesting to see what the market does with her. Happy to be with her regardless.
Big Danger: 5 Zap (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Star Witness colt that debuts for the Stuart Kendrick yard. The chesnut has only had the one barrier trial, which came on his home track at the Sunny Coast when winning that and doing it quite nicely. Takes on some handy types here, but I think he can measure up fresh.
Long Shot: 6 Royal Myth  (Bet Now: $14.00) is a talented filly who comes to town again for John Zielke after breaking her maiden status last time out in a Gatton maiden where she seemed to be going up and down in the same spot but kept finding. She as some really good form behind her and is race hard fit.

Race Two (14:02) : Castle International Trading Handicap (75) 2200m:

Back Me: Most of these come through the Magnatune race at the Gold Coast and I am going to give 6 Three Points  (Bet Now: $6.50) another look here. Forget he went around that day because he just did far too much near the pace and rightfully dropped out. With a more patient steer, he can be effective here in a thin race.
Big Danger: 9 Endless Don  (Bet Now: $8.00) also comes through the Magnatune race and his effort in defeat was enormous. He too did a stack of work early on to sit on the pace and even though he was off the bit a long way out he toughed it out and was only beaten off the final 100m. If he gets a better run in transit here, he will take some beating.
Long Shot: 3 I Feel Good (Bet Now: $10.00) is a handy customer for the Symons/Laxon yard who steps up in trip after racing over the mile his past couple, the latest here at the midweeks where he was back on the rail and couldn’t really come on. He has always given the impression he will appreciate the extra trip, and he gets it here.

Race Three (14:40) : Energize Electrical & Safety Management Plate (Class 3) 1615m:

Back Me: 6 American Diva  (Bet Now: $5.50) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at the Gold Coast on a bottomless track where she looked in awful trouble 600m but once Taylor gave her a click, she picked them up easily and bounded away. Harder here, but she does have upside and she will be strong late.
Long Shot: 12 Pinolino (Bet Now: $3.20) is a sparingly raced four year old mare who is putting together a nice little record. She ran over this track/distance last Wednesday on a bottomless track where she was off the bit a fair way out but fought on well behind First Crush. Firmer surface will aid her claims here, and she should be hard fit, ready to go down in the weights.
Long Shot: 13 She Excites (Bet Now: $31.00) looks silly overs here. Talented mare for Luke Hilton at Hawkesbury who makes the trip after three runs in the NSW country, the latest coming at Wellington when working home strongly behind Dubali. She has a horrible racing pattern, but if she is within striking range on the turn, she’ll take some holding out.

Race Four (15:22) : Brumby Sunstate Handicap 1615m:

Back Me: 2 Too Good To Refuse (Bet Now: $2.00) comes back home after a stint in Sydney where he didn’t quite measure up but still ran okay, the latest coming in the Newcastle Newmarket behind key Doncaster contender Happy Clapper. This looks more his level and should take some beating.
Big Danger: 7 Brazen Moss (Bet Now: $3.00) looks the only threat now after scratchings. He landed some good bets when winning over 1400m at the Gold Coast two weeks back, aided by a lovely ride from Jim Byrne who found the best ground out wide and overhauled a runner who was first up. I think he is too short to be a betting proposition, but he does get up to the mile now and is a proven wet tracker.
Long Shot: 8 Fast Arrow  (Bet Now: $10.00) is a gelding in ripping form at the moment for the Mick Mair yard. He ran over 1800m at the Gold Coast last time out where Griffin gave him an absolute peach of a steer but couldn’t get the job done and had to settle for second to Transporter. Back to the mile should suit and is one of the hardest to beat.

Race Five (16:02) : Future Floors Handicap 1050m:

Back Me: 11 Star Sammy (Bet Now: $10.00) is a quality gelding that resumes for the Mayfield-Smith stable. Ran three times during the Winter last year, and on each occasion he ran a game second in three solid races. He is an absolute dynamo when produced fresh and loves racing at Doomben. Key contender here.
Big Danger: 1 Mount Nebo (Bet Now: $4.00) is a hard one to trust/follow, but on his best form, he is better than these, so he has to go in. Been given a really good break since the Winter/Spring where he measured up in quality races. Looked to trial up well at Wyong, he draws a soft gate and gets D Browne steering.
Long Shot: 2 Hard Stride  (Bet Now: $12.00) hasn’t raced for three weeks since racing over 1110m here where he sat off the speed, and was wide, but stuck on quite well I thought behind the low flying Pinch River. Bit more depth to this field, but he is a speed horse and if he get on the pace without doing much work, he will be right in this.

Race Six (16:42) : CIT Insurance Handicap (75) 1615m:

Back Me: 2 Red Letter Day (Bet Now: $12.00) should be forgiven for his failure in the Members Cup last time out given he was wide no cover for the entire trip and dropped out to finish down the track behind Colour Charge. Won his lone start at Doomben, and this is a significant drop in depth. Big improver here with better luck in running.
Big Danger: 8 My Firecracker (Bet Now: $8.00) is a John Smerdon trained galloper who loves to grind it out and find the winning post, which is what he did last Wednesday here where he got the split between runners and finished off with purpose over the final 75m. Harder here, but is progressive and will be strong late.
Long Shot: 16 Bayview Emperor (Bet Now: $26.00) is on the quick back up after racing over this track/distance last Saturday where he sat last in a slowly run race before Hellyer peeled out 600m from home to dash up near the lead but when he did that, Sheiswhatsheis sprinted and he couldn’t go on with it. Should be more of a genuine tempo here for him, so I won’t rule him out.

Race Seven (17:22) : Southeast Floors Handicap (Class 6) 1350m:

Back Me: 13 All That Is (Bet Now: $2.90) ran over this track/distance last Wednesday on a similar track rating when hard in the market and aided by a lovely steer from Fancourt, the mare bolted up and spanked her rivals. This race is very thin, and she gets the claim again, so only 52.5kg on her back against this lot…looks extremely hard to beat.
Big Danger: 9 Time To Torque  (Bet Now: $3.90) is on the seven day back up after racing over this track/distance last Saturday where he got a long way back in the run yet finished off his race quite strongly late in the piece when second to Counter Meal. I like that he is on the quick turnaround and is hard fit.
Long Shot: 11 Real Good (Bet Now: $10.00) hasn’t raced since Feb 26 at the Sunny Coast where he was hard in the market but after receiving a nice sit just off the pace, he didn’t really go on with it and just whacked away for fourth. He is better than and is proven in town, plus I think the little break would have done him some good.

Race Eight (18:00) : BFS Pedorthics Handicap 1350m:

Back Me: 3 Victory Eight (Bet Now: $7.50) for me here. This former Ciaron Maher trained three year appears to be loving life in the Sunshine state under Trevor Miller, winning two from two, both over 1200m at the Sunny Coast and both times he has been impressive. Tougher assignment here, but his turn of foot makes him a serious winning hope.
Big Danger: 2 Our Beebee (Bet Now: $3.00) is a filly who is absolutely low flying this time in for the Rex Lipp yard, winning two from two this prep in dominant fashion, the latest coming two weeks back over 1200m at the Gold Coast when coming with a well timed run out wide to dash clear for a sharp victory. No reason why she can’t make it three.
Long Shot: 10 Beaudacious (Bet Now: $12.00) comes through the races won by Our Beebee. You could make a case that she should have beaten that horse fresh but got a mile back and was held up, then went to the Gold Coast and wasn’t as dynamic. Third up, Byrne on, lovely gate…double figures for her is very good.

BEST BET: Race Eight Number 3 Victory Eight

NEXT BEST: Race Four Number 2 Too Good To Refuse

VALUE: Race Five Number 11 Star Sammy
