Victorian racing this Monday heads to Mornington for an eight race card. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (9) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:25) Tbsc.com.au (bm70) 2000m
2 Diamondsandbubbles (Bet Now: $10.00) on top in the opener. David Briedoake trained mare that should love the rise to 2000m after resuming over the mile at Bendigo where she was good late from the back behind Scottish Dancer. Should lob into a lovely spot from the gate and has more upside than most.
Back to 2000m does look a positive for 5 Runaway Train (Bet Now: $2.90) for the Douglas/Kah combo. Looked the winner when Jamie pushed the button at Sandown last time out but she couldn’t quite finish it off when fifth to Chaska. Back in trip I like, proven track/distance winner and does have Jamie Kah.
3 Minola (Bet Now: $4.40) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Paul Preusker, this mare now finds herself with Gavin Bedggood. Hasn’t raced since the Warrnambool Carnival when down the track behind Sign Seal Deliver. Loves wet ground and back to Mares grade, she appeals.
Race 2. (13:00) Quayclean Mdn Plate 1200m
12 Holy Spirit (Bet Now: $4.00) on top in a tricky race. This mare is first up, having not raced since April 8 when third to Dunjenni in a race where the form out of it hasn’t been flash. But, this girl has jumped out well to get ready and the stable is firing after a double on Saturday.
8 Reddisun (Bet Now: $5.00) is racing like the 1200m will suit. This four year old ran over 1000m at Bairnsdale last time out and against the pattern, I thought he worked to the line pretty well albeit never a winning threat. Significant jockey upgrade with Jamie Kah taking over. Just needs luck from the tricky draw.
7 Magnetic Dash (Bet Now: $8.50) is racing well at the moment. Resumed over 1000m here and was solid late behind a handy one in Prince Of Mercia. Then went to Cranbourne when just off the speed and battled on pretty well when fourth to Art Major. Was 1000m to 1400m there so back to 1200m is a positive.
Race 3. (13:35) Stridefree Ron Hutchinson Hcp 1200m
I’ll give 8 Transformation (Bet Now: $15.00) a chance. Was on his back when racing at Sale last time out and if you were on, apologies for bringing it up. I thought with a clear path, he fights the finish out. But just a lack of Olly initiative saw the juvenile finish down the track and not really extended. Drawn out now, so hopefully gets clear air from the outset.
3 Beagle (Bet Now: $2.80) is a Team Freedman trained son of Pride Of Dubai having start one. I thought he closed off pretty well in a recent jumpout here. Was off the speed and worked to the line pretty well under minimal riding. In the right camp and does get Jamie Kah to steer.
7 River Views (Bet Now: $7.00) should prove hard to beat from the front. Ran over 1200m at Ballarat on testing ground last time out and gave a pretty good kick from the front, just failing to finish it off when second to Brookline. If this track is playing on speed, he’s the one to beat.
Race 4. (14:10) Ids Security (bm64) 1000m
Keen to see 4 Amuri (Bet Now: $3.00) resume for the McEvoy camp. The stable does have a high opinion of her given two of her three career outings have come at blacktype level down the Flemington straight, the debut run seeing her four lengths off September Run. Loved her recent jumpout win at St Arnaud and has great early toe, so she’ll look the winner for a long way.
3 Clean Machine (Bet Now: $5.00) is a filly in form and could well hold that form. Not sure she beat much at Ballarat last time out on the Synthetic, but she spanked them from the front and was impressive. Harder here, but draws soft, should get a lovely run from the gate and prove hard to beat.
8 Passing Time (Bet Now: $12.00) is a big watch for me. Locally trained by Lisa Enright and this filly was such an impressive debut winner at Mornington, albeit the class of field she was up against does look limited. Trained on the track, draws well and is an astute camp so watch the market.
Race 5. (14:45) Les Obriem Medal (bm70) 1000m
Looks to be really good speed here, which I think suits 1 Wicklow Town (Bet Now: $12.00), who has a fair bit on these re class. Just needs luck from the wide gate, but he looks to have returned well based on a couple of strong jumpout performances. If he’s within range on the turn, I think his class gets him home.
5 Meteorite (Bet Now: $4.00) has the sustained speed to blow these away if he’s right. Resumed over 1000m at Sandown and was pretty plain I thought behind Zipping Boy, with Josh Richards telling stewards that the horse never travelled. Perhaps a drop in depth and give in the track helps his cause.
6 He’s A Gold Digger (Bet Now: $23.00) is a Lisa Enright trained gelding that has had two Australian runs, both over 1000m at Cranbourne. Impressive winner fresh in a 64 before racing at that level again when wide no cover and tiring late. On the home track now, Jamie Kah first time, and does like juice in the track.
Race 6. (15:20) Highview Accounting (bm64) 1200m
Keen on 2 Four Leaf Riot (Bet Now: $2.80). Well backed on debut at Kilmore and spanked them. He then raced last Saturday at Flemington when again backed with confidence. Sat on speed and gave a really good kick but just tired late when third to Foxy Frida. Gets a jockey upgrade IMO with Lachie King taking over from Fred Kersley and we saw on debut how effective he was when getting his toe in.
6 The Waterman (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Team McEvoy trained three year old that debuted on testing ground at Ballarat and what I liked about the win is that when he was challenged, he found and drew clear late to win well. Not sure he beat much, but stable is in somewhat of a purple patch.
4 Redsnap (Bet Now: $13.00) creates interest at a price. Lot of merit in his win first up at Cranbourne. Did work from the wide gate but eventually crossed to lead and he found plenty when asked, kicking strongly and was too good. Harder here, but on his home track and gets Matty Cartwright to steer.
Race 7. (15:55) Jim Marconi (bm64) 1200m
On top is 2 Toosbuy (Bet Now: $11.00). Brett Scott trained gelding that should prove hard to beat on his home track. Ran over 1200m at Ballarat when back in the run and for a few strides looked to be paddling but picked up and was good late when second to Halcyon Daame. Good record on the home track and draw to get three wide cover, launching late.
10 Teramia (Bet Now: $2.90) has an awful racing pattern but the big tick for her is getting gate one, so hopefully she won’t get as far back this time around. Over a month between runs since racing over 1200m at Ballarat where she was back near last in the run and worked home strongly late when third to Inspired Sun. If she can use gate one to advantage, she’ll take beating.
13 Zoupino (Bet Now: $9.00) has the engine under the hood to take this out. Lloyd Kennewell trained mare that is a few weeks between runs since racing over 1100m at Kilmore when back near last in the run and working home strongly when second to Gojazz. Should get three/four wide cover from the gate and get last look.
Race 8. (16:30) Asset Painting Services (bm70) 1600m
2 Category Five (Bet Now: $5.50) has well and truly found his sweet spot, which is 1600m, with all five career wins coming at the trip, his last two starts resulting in strong wins at the trip at Cranbourne. Drawn wide, but will press forward and loses nothing with Matty Cartwright replacing Josh Richards.
7 Vainly (Bet Now: $1.65) is racing like the 1600m will be okay for him. He ran over 1400m at Sandown last time out. Had a suck run behind the speed and tried hard. Just couldn’t quite reel in Scantoon. Unknown at the mile but is racing like it will be okay for him and is trained on the track.
Been a little while since 11 Mrs Beckham (Bet Now: $6.50) has raced at this level, but last time she did, she bolted up at Bendigo. In four subsequent runs, she has raced at metro level in town and ran well without threatening. This looks more her level and she can easily bounce back.
