Doomben will conduct a nine event meeting on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out half a metre for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:53) Teddy Bears Picnic 3 August Hcp 1350m
1 Savour The Charm (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Bevan Laming trained juvenile that was the subject of a plunge when racing over 1200m here at the midweeks and the bets were landed, driving hard late nearer the inside to get up and win. He’ll eat up 1350m to my eye and this isn’t an overly deep contest.
2 Miss Trustful (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been up a little while but she is a filly that has solid form lines around her. Ciaron Maher trains and she was a bit on the plain side two weeks ago at Eagle Farm behind Depth Of Character, who I am trying to figure out if he’s a donkey or a star. Not sure, but I do think that form reads well for this.
6 River Rogue (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like he will appreciate a rise to 1350m. He ran over 1200m at Dalby where he got back off the speed and while he was never threatening, he did make up ground and was solid enough in defeat when fourth. Like him up in trip and with a positive steer, he’s dangerous I am sure.
Race 2. (12:28) The Gibson (Bm78) 1110m
4 Plundering (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an Annabel Neasham trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since March 9 at the Gold Coast on Jewel Day where he struggled on the very ordinary track surface when down the track behind This Is One. Trial was good, he handles wet ground…watch the market.
5 Brereton (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Tony Gollan trained son of Zoustar that resumes. This guy last raced at Caulfield on Feb 24 when down the track behind Twin Perfection, who was flying at the time. Now with Gollan, his trial was good and his best is more than good enough to take this out.
2 Economics (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Stuart Kendrick. He ran on the home deck at the Sunny Coast last time when contesting a stronger race than this and didn’t disgrace himself at all in defeat behind Bring Me Kash. Back to this sort of grade of race, he can bounce back.
Race 3. (13:03) Country Music Raceday On Sale Now Hcp 1110m
6 Invincible Field (Bet Now: $SP.00) the one to beat, and clearly, but gee he does seem on the short side. This colt has had two runs for Tony Gollan and each time he has been quite dynamic, winning 2/2 over 1200m here, the latest on June 12, so he has fresh legs into this but his tick over trial was sharp.
4 Bohemian Lad (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect for David Vandyke. He ran over 1200m here last time where he got into a decent spot near the speed and presented to win, getting better as the race went on and was impressive to the line in winning. Fast run 1110m suits and maps ideally once again.
1 Defiant Spirit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Stuart Kendrick trained three year old that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since the 3YO Jewel at the Gold Coast in the Autumn when struggling on the shifty track behind Party For Two. He does race best with fresh legs and has trialled up really well leading in.
Race 4. (13:38) Ross Smith 40 Years Of Service (Bm68) 1200m
1 I See You Coming (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be a leading chance for Tony Gollan. He resumed three weeks ago at Ipswich when getting into a decent spot just off the speed and presented to be some sort of danger and loomed but being first up, condition just gave way late behind Atmosphere. Fitter and up in trip, he appeals.
13 Enabler (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a good horse when right. He ran over 1110m here on June 19 where he got a mile out of his ground and while he was never really a winning threat, he worked home with real purpose and was quite good in defeat behind Hurts So Good. Hard to beat if he can settle closer.
12 Affinity Flyer (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Indiana Turner and commands respect. Loved the way she let down to win two back at Dalby before going to Ipswich three weeks ago when getting a suck run in transit behind the speed before angling clear and found the line with purpose in a really good effort behind Rockribbed. Hard to beat against these I say.
Race 5. (14:13) U&U Recruitment (Bm70) 1600m
8 Cunnamulla Fella (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. Rob Heathcoate trained three year old that comes here off the back of a win over 1350m at this track where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late from near last to win and win well. Harder here, but confident he measures up.
13 Agirlsbestfriend (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a talented mare for Marc Quinn that commands respect. She was second up behind Toes In The Water two weeks back at Rosehill where she got a mile out of her ground but worked home with purpose in a pretty good effort behind the Nick Olive runner. Firmer footing would be perfect and if she can settle closer, she’ll take beating.
3 Kipling’s Journey (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a ripper for Team Hulbert and should be thereabouts. He ran fifth to Cocobrew Express three weeks back at Ipswich. He was on speed and kept chipping away and though held late, he didn’t disgrace himself at all in a really good effort. Good racing style and is tough.
Race 6. (14:52) Sky Racing (Bm78) 1110m
2 Liquor (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the leader and should take beating from on speed. She comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since May 25 here when on speed and tired late in a plain effort behind My Snow Queen. Been given a good freshen up and her tick over trial here was very good. Hard to beat, especially if she controls from the front.
3 Maid To Fit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. This mare was outclassed in two runs at Stakes level during the Brisbane Carnival, the latest being in the Helen Coughlan. Given a mini break and her recent tick over trial win was very good. Leading contender.
7 Jayanthi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of Hinchinbrook for O’Dea/Hoysted that resumes. This girl is first up, with her last run coming on March 2 at Eagle Farm when back off the speed and did make up minor headway behind stablemate Kanazawa. Resumes and although not a noted fresh horse, she does have a touch of quality.
Race 7. (15:32) Eureka Stud Plate (C3) 1350m
16 Brosnan (Bet Now: $SP.00) should take beating here for Ryan/Alexiou. This guy is first up, having not raced since Oct 7 at Eagle Farm when placing behind subsequent Stakes winner Cottee. He isn’t a noted fresh horse but has trialled well up leading in and first up at 1350m in a race like this, I think he has the class to get home.
10 Warby (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a fab track/distance record and looks ready to win. He ran three weeks ago at Ipswich where he got too far back in the run but got out wide and charged late to run second to Oughton. If he can settle closer, be within range, he’s going to take holding out.
4 Ivan’s Hero (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Chris Waller since racing during the Scone Carnival when near the speed but couldn’t sustain the run and tired late behind the very much in form Elson Boy, who won again next start to frank the form. Fresh legs, kind map, he can take this out.
Race 8. (16:08) Xxxx (Bm85) 1600m
13 Rising Pacific (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. Tony Gollan trained gelding that has been freshened up, having not raced since June 12 here when back near last in the run and did make up headway but was never really threatening behind This’llbetheone. Tick over trial was good and with a more positive ride, he takes beating.
15 Madame Odette (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks hard to beat for Tony Gollan. This mare ran over the mile three weeks ago at Ipswich where she worked home with purpose from off the speed when second to Cocobrew Express. Hard fit now and she has run well at the track/distance previously. Hard to beat against these.
9 Cinque Torri (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to get a decent enough run on speed and comes to town in winning form. He gave them a spanking at the Gold Coast Poly two weeks back where he led throughout and absolutely gapped his rivals, winning by a space in a dominant display. Harder here but confident he measures up.
Race 9. (16:43) Ladbroke It! (Bm85) 1350m
9 Blakmax (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key threat. Tony Gollan trained gelding that comes here off the back of a win at Doomben where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late from the back to win and quite impressively I thought. More depth here, but off a win, he commands respect.
14 Atlantic Ocean (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been hit and miss throughout his career but he has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. That win came at this track/distance at the midweeks where he got into a decent spot just off the speed before being presented with clear air and he made a mess of them late to win and win well. Hard to beat.
15 Mahagoni (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Lindsay Gough trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since April 6, his lone run for the stable, and ran a game second to Iverson. Been given a good break, trialled up well in readiness for his return and can pull out a run fresh.
