13/6/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Belmont, Hyperion Stakes day

The Belmont Winter Carnival continues on Saturday, with the feature race being the Hyperin Stakes (1600m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out eight metres for the entire circuit.

I’ll take a chance with 10 Continuance (Bet Now: $13.00) for the Lindsey Smith stable. This filly hadn’t done a great deal in her opening four trials but they whacked the Blinkers on her in the latest trial at Lark Hill and the change was there to see. Showed early interest and when clicked up by Parnham, the response was good. Market watch with this stable and a first starter, but off the trial, think she can run well.

6 Nuhad (Bet Now: $1.90) does seem short enough at around even money but the ratings boys and girls loved what she did on debut at this track/distance at the midweeks on May 27. Was on speed throughout under Pike and when he clicked the filly up, it was race over and she ran good late splits for a juvenile on debut. Harder here, and IMO is short enough, but can see why she’s popular.

1 Bumper Humper (Bet Now: $5.00) is an interesting runner. Dion Luciani trained juvenile that won one of the first 2YO races of the season back in early October when getting the job done impressively from off the pace at Ascot. Been given a long break and comes into this with just one soft 400m trial win under the belt. Watch the market.

In the corner of 4 Tajmali (Bet Now: $3.90) for the Luke Fernie camp. Was 1200m back to 1000m when winning here two weeks ago, with Pike really lifting the filly over the line late to nab them near the peg. Stable has a very good strike rate when combining with Pike and he remains on the filly for this assignment. Back up in trip also a big tick.

Despite taking on older horses, this looks a drop in depth for 6 Captain Kink (Bet Now: $4.50). Brett Pope trained three year old who has tackled some decent company, including the likes of Resortman, Indian Pacific and Windstorm. Nice horses in this race, but not the class of those mentioned, so think he has to be respected.

7 Indigo Wild (Bet Now: $11.00) is generally around the mark for the Jason Pateman team and got a deserving win on the board last Wednesday at this track/distance, getting a lovely ride just off the speed from Mitch Pateman and the gelding was far too good. Hasn’t done much wrong in three runs back from a break and can measure up here.

Back to 1000m I do like for the Luke Fernie trained mare 5 Miss Frost (Bet Now: $2.50). She ran over 1200m here two weeks ago when wide with cover before peeling into clear air and she tried very hard. Couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Tawny Pete, with the bob of the head being the difference. Back to a fast run 1000m, she looks the one.

12 She’s Enchanted (Bet Now: $2.90) looks to have plenty of ability for the Brett Pope team. Both career outings have come at this track/distance, the last start seeing her bolt up to break the maiden tag and she ran great late splits from the front in winning. Holds up from the inside gate and gets a sweet run. Hard to beat.

Remaining at 1000m is the knock with 3 Downforce (Bet Now: $12.00) but he’ll be strong late. Resumed last Saturday over this track/distance and just found the trip too short but worked home well late behind impressive winner Boomtastic. Has a good second up record…just remaining at 1000m is the query because he wants 1200m-1400m.

Big fan of 4 Aberdeen Queen (Bet Now: $4.80) and confident she can measure up here to Saturday grade. Was 1400m back to 1200m when winning impressively here a couple of Wednesdays back, finishing powerfully from off the speed to beat Levitate. Back up to 1300m, sitting off a good speed here, she’ll take some beating.

Can 1 Indian Pacific (Bet Now: $3.00) stretch his brilliance to 1300m? He stretched it to 1200m first up here two weeks ago where he beat the well above average three year old Windstorm, doing it from the front and kicked really strongly when he needed to. What pressure he cops in front will be the query because I think he’ll need an economical run to see out the 1300m.

7 Saturday Sun (Bet Now: $26.00) can measure up here. Broke the maiden at start eight over 1200m here back on May 28, finishing off with purpose under Paul Harvey to get the job done. Overall time was nothing flash, but he’s always showed city class ability and now he has a win on the board, he could well go on with it.

10 Windstorm (Bet Now: $1.35) looks the good thing of the day across Australia. Highly talented three year old for Team Williams that resumed over 1200m here two weeks ago, where he just lacked a bit of race fitness but wound up strongly to run a narrow second to Indian Pacific, clocking great late splits. Despite taking on older horses, he’s fitter, eats up extra ground and has a touch of quality about him.

4 Double Bubble (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Simon Miller trained mare that caused a surprise when winning first up and beating the hyped three year old Massimo. She then raced again over 1200m here when near the speed throughout and battled away well to run third to Tawny Pete. 1300m is a little query, but she’s come back in good order.

Interesting that Paul Harvey combines with a horse who hasn’t done a great deal in two runs back from a spell, 7 Nelson’s Flight (Bet Now: $46.00). Had blood in the mouth first up so excuses there before racing three weeks ago over 1400m here when just off the speed and failed to fire. Harvey is back on, so at big odds, could sneak a firs four spot.

With hard race fitness under the belt, just leaning the way of 4 Picture Perfect (Bet Now: $3.40). Ran over 2200m here two weeks ago where Pike rode him like he was the best horse in the race, and duly he was. Margin was narrow, but the arrogant ride from Pike flattered those behind. Back in trip a slight query, but he’s hard fit and in form.

The break between runs is a query with 5 Dark Choice (Bet Now: $20.00) but love the booking of Chris Parnham given he ride the mare to win the WA Oaks last year. Last run came five weeks ago over 1800m at Ascot and it was pretty much a barrier trial for her, getting blocked for most of the straight when seemingly having plenty up the sleeve. If the breaks go her way, she can win.

10 Baramagic (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Brian Kersley trained gelding that is three weeks between runs since producing a big finale from the back over 2100m here to get up and beat Picture Perfect, who of course won last Saturday, so that form reads well. Will be interesting to see what Johnston-Porter does from the inside gate.

Safe option is 13 Serenity Bay (Bet Now: $2.60) for Team Williams. Talented mare that resumes, having not raced since Feb 8 at Pinjarra in the Pearl Classic when third to subsequent Stakes winner Flower Of War, with that form line clearly reading well for this. Trial win was good, sprints well fresh and Pike is on for the resumption.

6 Sigil (Bet Now: $19.00) has done a really good job under the care of Luke Fernie. Broke a long run of outs when winning at Northam, getting a suck run on the fence before Pateman weaved his way through to clear air and the gelding finished best. Harder here, but has proven himself in town before, plus have to respect the in form stable.

10 Akiko (Bet Now: $18.00) is a while between wins for Martin Allan but his best is certainly good enough. Ran over 1200m here two weeks ago, his first run in five weeks, when near the speed throughout and battled away okay behind Tawny Pete. Interesting he steps up to 1400m, but if he can get a soft time of it in front, he’ll take catching at a price.

Was on 3 Gatting (Bet Now: $8.00) in the Belmont Sprint two weeks ago and have to butter up again. Just hit a flat spot when Lucy asked him to go and I think that definitely cost him a place. Cost him the win? I’d say no, but should have gone very close. Now gets to the mile, third up, hard fit…just needs a good ride from the sticky gate.

I think 11 Mississippi Delta (Bet Now: $3.70) will be unbeatable this Winter once she gets to 2000m+, so perhaps not backing her to win here, but she was a real eye catcher in the Belmont Sprint, clocking some of the best late splits of the race, which is a good sign for a mare best suited over a staying trip. Win wouldn’t shock given her class.

Expecting big improvement from the old warrior 2 Humidor (Bet Now: $13.00). He resumed for Lindsey Smith in the Belmont Sprint and even though 1400m is short of his best, I’d have to mark him down as disappointing. Was expecting a bit more from him, but he does have enormous class on these. This run will be a good guide as to whether or not he has that zest for racing.

12 Not To Be Mist (Bet Now: $2.05) for me. Adam Durrant trained four year old that really came of age last prep, winning three on the bounce before being stepped out to 2000m and ran well without threatening before being spelled. Two trials leading in have been quite good and he is a horse who has a very good fresh record.

6 Forceful (Bet Now: $18.00) can bounce back if he produces his best. Resumed at Ascot four weeks ago and failed to fire a shot in a really disappointing resumption behind Laverrod. Sent back to the trials and looked much better in winning a Lark Hill trial last Tuesday. I think watch the market and see what it does with him.

3 Flow (Bet Now: $19.00) is a son of Street Cry for Martin Allan that resumes. This gelding hasn’t raced since Feb 15 when down the track in the Cyril Flower at Ascot behind the talented mare Flower Of War. Interesting he resumes without a public trial, but has class when right and can sprint well first up. He’s a yard/market watch.
