A massive day of racing has been set down for Moonee Valley this Saturday where it is All Star Mile Day. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
All Star Mile ⭐️: View the Field and Odds for the All Star Mile
Race 1. (12:15) Ladbroke It Grand Classic-bm80 2500m
5 Playoffs (Bet Now: $3.60 TOP ODDS) is racing very well for the Maher/Eustace camp and I think can take this out. Finished fourth behind stablemate Fanciful Toff at this track/distance last start where he was several weeks between runs and ridden cold. Think there’ll be more intent this time around and John Allen sticks.
Now that 1 Fanciful Toff (Bet Now: $3.30 TOP ODDS) has found winning form, think he can go right on with it. Was teasing to win one and it finally came here at this track/distance, landing good bets with help from a lovely ride by Jye McNeil. Creeping up in the weights, but he’s pretty safe at this distance range and a drop of rain won’t hurt.
Good test here for 4 Aurora’s Symphony (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) but he is absolutely flying at the moment. Symon Wilde trained four year old that is looking to make it four on the bounce, his latest win coming over 2400m at Sandown where he was there to be run down, but he found plenty under pressure and was too good. Harder here, but in form with gate one and distance no issue.
Race 2. (12:50) Valley Pearl 1200m
7 Scorched Earth (Bet Now: $2.45 TOP ODDS) is a talented filly for John Moloney who should prove hard to beat here. Gave them a spanking in the SA Magic Millions at Murray Bridge, leading throughout under a confident ride from the best rider in SA this season, Jess Eaton. Ran well in a Blue Diamond Prelude prior, so she can measure up to these for sure.
8 Glitter ‘N’ Gold (Bet Now: $3.90 TOP ODDS) looks to have her fair share of talent. Danny O’Brien trained filly that was a late drifter in betting when debuting over 1100m at Ballarat but gee she finished off hard from the back like a good horse and ran some of the better late splits of the meeting. I know the stable has a decent opinion of her so keen to see how she goes.
1 Predetermined (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) looks a nice colt for the Corstens camp. Kept quite safe in betting when resuming last Wednesday and once again, it was a Jamie Kah masterclass. Sent the horse straight to the front, controlled things and just didn’t give her rivals a look in. Harder here, but he’ll give himself every chance.
Race 3. (13:25) Xtreme Freight Hcp 2040m
Going with class, 2 Too Close The Sun (Bet Now: $2.50 TOP ODDS). He resumed in the Group l Futurity and I thought was far from disgraced in defeat behind a high class mare in Probabeel. Gets to a more suitable trip this time around, he’s in well after the claim and he’ll be out of trouble on speed with Lachie Neindorf to steer, who has a good strike rate with the stable.
6 Kentucky Breeze (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) has a good record at the Valley and is finding form, so think he’s hard to hold out against these. He ran over 1800m at Caulfield last time and kept finding the line in a good effort when a close up third to Hang Man/Defibrillate. That form reads well for a race like this.
3 Irish Flame (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) can run a positive race at odds. He had to chase a brutal speed set by Buffalo River in the Blamey and was just gassed, tiring late to finish down the track, but entitled to. Did win at this track/distance on Cox Plate Night and has upside to come provided last run hasn’t busted him.
Race 4. (14:00) Abell Stakes 1200m
7 Pandemic (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) looks a perfect candidate to my eye for a race like the Goodwood. Freshened up since a closing third in the Kensington behind Fabergino, who is a straight track specialist. Tick over trial in Sydney was quite good to the eye and a fast run 1200m looks his ideal set up.
3 Ancestry (Bet Now: $2.70 TOP ODDS) is the unknown. Resumed as a key threat in the Oakeligh Plate where he was leading and folded late. The tempo was genuine, but Portland Sky was on speed too and won the race, so that can’t be an excuse for him. Loves the Valley and sustained speed is his forte. 1200m is the query.
4 Usmanov (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS) is going well I think for the Edmonds camp. Ran down the Flemington straight in the Bob Hoysted and was good late without threatening behind Fabergino in a good effort I thought. Better suited around a bend and up to 1200m, plus would love a drop of rain to hit.
Race 5. (14:35) Alister Clark Stakes 2040m
Not sure about how strong overall the Guineas will turn out to be, but 1 Cherry Tortoni (Bet Now: $1.90) does pick himself here. He was enormous in defeat after getting dragged back in the run from the wide gate. Incredible effort to get as close as he did, but was he flattered? We’ll find out here just how good he is.
Are we underestimating 9 Parure? (Bet Now: $6.00) She was a dominant winner of the Autumn Classic three weeks ago at Caulfield and she was strong in the run to the line in winning. Off that effort, the 2040m here should be no drama. More depth, but have to like the way she is going about it.
3 Grandslam (Bet Now: $9.50) is sneaky going well I feel. He wasn’t too bad first up in a fast run CS Hayes. Then went to the Guineas and 400m out he looked gone but picked himself up and was solid to the line and through it, crying out of a horse wanting more ground, and he gets that here. Leading chance with his best.
Race 6. (15:15) Adapt Aust. Country Mile-bm80 1600m
5 Intellective (Bet Now: $7.50) is a beauty for Matty Williams that has been up a while but continues to hold her form really nicely. Won again last start at Ballarat. Came with a well timed run under Yendall and clung on to fend them off and win. Harder here, but she’s just so genuine and tries hard.
Is 17 La Falaise (Bet Now: $10.00) back on track? Ran fifth in that Ballarat race mentioned above and she was very stiff late in the piece, getting badly held up when seemingly having something to offer. That was her first run in seven weeks, and she has a liking for the Valley, so think she’s a winning chance.
8 Hezafox (Bet Now: $26.00) looks to have come back in good order for Greg Eurell. He ran over 1590m at Wangaratta two weeks ago and I think with clear air, he goes close to winning the race instead of a luckless third to Fontein Diamond. Remaining at the mile is the knock, but his best is good enough.
Race 7. (15:55) Vobis Gold Reef 1600m
I think now that 7 Bellinger (Bet Now: $8.50) has got a win on the board, he can go on with it. Hayes/Dabernig trained three year old that took a little while to break the maiden tag but he broke it in emphatic fashion at Sandown, albeit against limited opposition, but he was still dominant and his confidence should be high.
10 Real Sensation (Bet Now: $5.00) has good ability. On the quick back up after bolting up to break her maiden last week at Stawell. Admittedly, didn’t beat much, but she spanked them and ran solid time relative to the meeting. Like she backs up and overall, this is a pretty thin event I don’t think.
8 Zoutellus (Bet Now: $15.00) lacks the class of some of these but one thing he does have in his corner is a 1600m run under the belt. That ended up being a maiden win at Pakenham and admittedly, it was a proper slog, but he toughed it out to get the job done. Puts himself on speed and will run an honest race.
Race 8. (16:40) All-star Mile 1600m
I’ve been hot on 6 Mugatoo (Bet Now: $7.50) for this race for a couple of months and not going to drop off him. Resumed in the Apollo in what was more or less a 600m dash. Given he was back near last, he had no chance, but had to like the way he ran to the line. Tick over trial was a good piece of work and he won’t matter what the track condition is.
12 Shout The Bar (Bet Now: $15.00) is the real knockout chance I feel. She resumed in the Frances Tressady at Flemington. She didn’t parade the best, with condition evident to see along with her coat, but she ran super in defeat. Proven performer at the mile, and go back to the Mackinnon, she placed behind Arcadia Queen, so she’s up to this level of class.
The only legitimate winning hope that 2 Behemoth (Bet Now: $12.00) had here was if he drew an inside gate to do no work in order to run out the mile and voila, he has gate one, so he gets an outside winning chance. Every hope in the Futurity I thought but he did parade big in condition with improvement to come. Williams back on and he’ll get a soft trip from the gate.
Race 9. (17:20) Chandler Macleod Grand (bm80) 1200m
This looks a perfect race for 10 The Billionaire (Bet Now: $2.80) to have a crack in town. The Freedman camp has placed this horse to advantage this prep and has won 2/3, the last start seeing him bolt up at Wangaratta from the front. Only 53kg with Jamie Kah steering, he’ll be on the bunny and proving hard to get past.
5 Cordilla (Bet Now: $3.80) is a quality mare for Danny O’Brien that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since Cup Day over 1400m in a Mares race when far from disgraced in defeat behind a really good mare in Rich Hips. Has jumped out well leading in and first up last prep, should have bolted in at this track/distance.
1 So You Swing (Bet Now: $26.00) can run a positive at odds fresh. Resumes for the Ellerton/Zahra camp after a pretty solid Winter/Spring prep, mainly in Mares only races. Resumes off a solid enough jumpout and is a winner at the Valley. I don’t think she’s the worst in a competitive race.
