Nine races will be run and won at Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out 1.5 metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:22) TAB VENUE MODE PLATE (C3) 1050m
6 Leadership Spill (Bet Now: $2.00) has the talent under the hood to give this a shake. This son of Top Echelon resumes for Tony Gollan, having not raced since October 31 when leading and tiring late when third to a real handy one in Skins. Usually saves his best for when he has fresh legs, so watch the market.
1 Chico Milagro (Bet Now: $6.00) is a talented galloper for Tony Gollan that resumes. Hasn’t been seen since September 12 when a strong winner over 1200m here, beating home a couple of rivals engaged here. Generally goes well fresh, likes Doomben. Just needs luck in the run from a sticky draw.
3 Iced (Bet Now: $16.00) can add some value to exotics. Didn’t think he was too bad in defeat two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast behind Air Spirit in what was a very fast race, which rated well for the day, so giving that form line decent enough respect here and for mine he is a knockout chance.
Race 2. (13:57) BRC MEMBERSHIP HCP 1200m
6 Miami Fleiss (Bet Now: $1.30) picks herself but I wouldn’t be taking anything silly short so happy to watch her win without any coin on. It was a stunning debut win at the Sunny Coast, winning by seven over 1000m and looking outstanding. Overall, this isn’t a strong race and think she gets away with it.
1 Georgie’s Pride (Bet Now: $7.00) has come back in super order for Desleigh Forster. 2/2 this prep, both coming at Eagle Farm and each time she has been dominant on the line, albeit in weak-ish races, so she has to improve on that coming here, but has hard race fitness and is in winning form.
Interesting runner is 4 Shanjomi (Bet Now: $13.00), who is 2/2 to start her career for Matty Dunn. Dominant win on debut at Ballina before going to Lismore where she was wide no cover but far too good for them in a strong effort. Good test for her here, but don’t know how good they are til they are beaten.
Race 3. (14:33) XXXX DRY HCP 1200m
I’m with 3 Blue Kentucky Moon (Bet Now: $4.60), resuming for Matty Dunn. Hasn’t raced since September 24 when winning on Lismore Cup Day, getting the suck run behind the speed and finishing best. Been given a good break and has trialled up well in readiness for his return, and hoping that Ryan Maloney can get cover.
4 Apache Blue (Bet Now: $6.50) creates interest. Is 2/2 to start his career for Kris Lees, leading throughout to win on debut at Tuncurry before going to Taree when outside the speed and fighting on strongly to fend them off and win. Good test here for him, but think he is up to it and stable finds Michael Rodd.
1 Boom Spender (Bet Now: $9.00) deserves another chance. Forget he went around last Saturday at Eagle Farm. Wide no cover throughout and the effort told late, finishing down the track behind Tycoon Evie. This is a much easier assignment and provided he has come through run well, he’s hard to beat on prior form.
Race 4. (15:13) CANADIAN CLUB HCP 1050m
5 Glorious Ruby (Bet Now: $3.50) looks the safe option. Good on debut at the Gold Coast behind Swift Witness before going to the Sunny Coast where she was on speed and kicked strongly under Leah Kilner to get the job done impressively. This is no harder and is well in after the claim.
1 Legal Esprit (Bet Now: $3.70) is 2/2 to start his career and although I’m not sure he has beaten much, he has been dominant in both wins, starting off on debut at Warwick before going to the Gold Coast two weeks ago and he was dominant again in very sharp time. Keen to see how he goes.
6 Hamlet Von Snitzel (Bet Now: $5.50) looks to have his share of talent for Nat McCall. Trialled up like a jet prior to debuting at Doomben three weeks ago when showing good early toe to land on speed and he tried hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Mystic Gem. Better for the run and is hard to beat.
Race 5. (15:53) MOUNT FRANKLIN HCP (70) 1350m
10 Scottish Mist (Bet Now: $4.00) is bursting to win a race this time in for Rob Heathcoate and she does appear to find a suitable target. Ran over 1300m at Eagle Farm last time out and finished her race off nicely late in the piece when a close up fourth to Wild And Ready. Bolted in third up last prep, so she’s hard to beat.
3 Good Chat (Bet Now: $2.10) has been up a fair while for David Vandyke but seems to be holding his form quite nicely. Ran over 1200m at Doomben three weeks ago when on speed and trying hard, but just had no answers for the finale produced by a good mare in Garibaldi. That form does read well for a race like this.
9 Zoulou Dancer (Bet Now: $8.00) has been pretty good in a couple of runs back from a spell for Gary Doughty, running third each time. Latest run came at this track/distance last Thursday when closing off nicely behind Dio D’oro. Think she can be dangerous if she can sit closer in the run from the draw.
Race 6. (16:33) RACECOURSE VILLAGE (RS0MW) 1350m
8 Jetski (Bet Now: $3.40) is a little query at 1350m, but he has the quality to overcome it. Former Godolphin galloper that has done a pretty good job since joining the Sears camp. Latest run came over 1200m at the Sunny Coast and worked to the line pretty well. Has the class and quality to take this out.
6 What The Fuss (Bet Now: $5.50) is unknown at this sort of distance range but do feel has the talent to give himself every chance to see it out. Ran over 1200m two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast and looked the winner, but had to settle for a close up second to Perfect Aim. If he sees out the distance, hard to beat.
9 Slow Hands (Bet Now: $13.00) is a son of Reliable Man for Kelly Schweida that resumes. Hasn’t raced since September 19 at the Gold Coast when pulling hard in the run and leaving himself with nothing left for the straight behind Bajan Gold. Just one trial to get ready but can sprint well fresh.
Race 7. (17:12) SKY RACING HCP 1350m
6 Socialising (Bet Now: $2.35) for me. Was really keen on her when she raced at Doomben three weeks ago and it looked like it would be a horror show early on in the straight but she managed to get clear air late and savage the line to get up and nab You Make Me Smile on the peg. Can only see her improving off that and she’s the one to beat for me.
4 Phantom Falcon (Bet Now: $4.60) is five weeks between runs for Kacy Fogden since racing during the Magic Millions Carnival when far from disgraced in defeat behind Fisticuffs. Has a good record at Doomben and does tend to race best with fresh legs, so he does look one of the hardest to beat.
7 Ashman (Bet Now: $7.50) won’t know himself down in the weights and I think he can bounce back into the winners list. To the eye, he was disappointing last time out at Eagle Farm when leading and controlling, but just couldn’t quite finish it off. Better suited at the Doomben 1350m and weight relief, is good odds.
Race 8. (17:50) BRC GIRLS DAY OUT 20/3 (BM85) 1600m
2 Beaufort Park (Bet Now: $5.50) returns to his pet track and I think he can bounce back into the winners list. Seemed to have his chance last time out in the Sunshine Coast Cup and just whacked away late without threatening. Back to the Doomben, he gets his chance to bounce back, and does seem a good price.
8 Couldn’t Refuse (Bet Now: $3.50) can bounce back here. Desleigh Forster trained gelding that was somewhat ridden upside down when attempting to lead throughout over the mile at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago. Ridden upside down, but did get a soft time of it in front and kicked on strongly. Just couldn’t quite get there when third to Star Of Michelin. Hard to beat.
10 Mangione (Bet Now: $7.50) is racing well. Was on his back a few weeks ago at Doomben and I thought Larry rode a good race on him. Got a back to follow, peeled out and presented. Just lacked the turn of foot to put them away. Better suited here I feel, has upside and in the right stable. Leading chance.
Race 9. (18:25) BRC LIKE NOWHERE ELSE BNE (C6) 1200m
7 Garibaldi (Bet Now: $1.80) is a quality mare for Tony Gollan that can continue her winning form. Ran over this track/distance three weeks ago where she looked a good thing on paper and under Michael Rodd, he rode her like she was the best horse in the race and she duly was. No reason to suggest she can’t win again.
12 Ruuca (Bet Now: $5.50) is five weeks between runs for the Edmonds camp since racing at the Gold Coast during the Magic Millions Carnival where he got back in the run and chased quite strongly when second to Yao Dash. Tricky map for him and will be conceding a start, but should be strong at the end.
11 Unguarded (Bet Now: $18.00) is flying this time in for Chris Munce. Both runs back from a break have come over 1000m at the Sunny Coast, winning first up before racing there two weeks ago and finishing off with real purpose late behind Kylease. That form does look to read well and up to 1200m suits.
