Queensland racing this Saturday shifts across to the Gold Coast for a strong eight race card, where the feature race is the $100,000 Gold Coast Stakes (1200m). The weather forecast is for showers, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (13:10) : Waxy’s Irish Pub Handicap 2200m:
Back Me: 5 Cramming (Best Odds: $2.80) was backed to win last time out at Doomben and loomed to win the race but couldn’t quite go on with it when running a close up third to Honey Toast, beaten just under two lengths. Getting away from Doomben might help, but the worry with him is that he is not a horse who excels on a track with give in it.
Big Danger: 3 Uno Five (Best Odds: $3.40) ran fourth in that race mentioned above and while beaten convincingly, his effort wasn’t too bad at all when beaten just over two lengths. He has been up for a long time but continues to race very well and for the first time in a while, he is racing on his home track, and I think that will be a big advantage.
Roughie: 2 Ongoing Venture (Best Odds: $6.00) also comes through that Honey Toast race where he was quite disappointing I thought in running second last, beaten before the home turn. He is much better than that, and I think with a cold ride, he can definitely bounce back to winning form.

Race Two (13:45) : XXXX Summer Plate 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Social Conquest (Best Odds: $4.50) debuted here a couple of weeks back and was backed as if unbeatable. That support was justified with a narrow but impressive victory. He is bred to handle a wet track, stable flying and appears as though he will be better suited at 1200m. Looks the one to beat.
Big Danger: 4 Spot The Diff (Best Odds: $2.15) performed very well during the Spring/Summer, including a couple of outings at Stakes level. She spelled and resumed at the Sunshine Coast where she sat off speed and let down powerfully for a quite a dominant win. Now that she has got that winning feeling again, because it had been a while, she can go right on with it.
Roughie: 7 Thunder Raider (Best Odds: $34.00) debuted over 1050m at Doomben a couple of weeks back and was completely unwanted in betting yet ran a very encouraging race when fourth to Happy Event, beaten 3.5L in a pleasing effort. Bit harder here, but has upside, stable in form and appears as though she will appreciate the 1200m here.

Race Three (14:22) : Helensvale Tavern Handicap (Class 6) 1400m:
Back Me: 1 Spirit Of Heaven (Best Odds: $3.60) had her first run for Desleigh Forster over 1200m at Doomben a few weeks back and was well backed in betting. That support was almost justified but had to settle for a close up second to Burleigh Bullet. That was a super effort and will only improve with the added fitness and extra trip.
Big Danger: 6 Max It Out (Best Odds: $6.50) ran over 1350m at Doomben a couple of weeks back where she ran fourth to Sydney galloper Wild ‘N’ Famous, beaten three lengths in what was a very good effort I thought. Back to the mares grade now suits perfectly and being third up now, she should just about be ready to produce her best.
Roughie: 10 Promas (Best Odds: $9.00) ran over this trip at the Sunny Coast a couple of weeks back and let down nicely to win impressively, albeit in a much easier race than this. Bred to be a good one and she won’t mind some give in the track either, and has upside, so she is a leading contender.

Race Four (15:02) : XXXX Gold Handicap 1800m:
Back Me: 8 Favoured Grace (Best Odds: $26.00) took on the older horse at this track/distance last time out where she was short in the market and though looked the winner with about 200m to go, she didn’t quite finish it off when second to Collateral. Back to her own age is a big plus and she drops 2kg in weight from her latest outing.
Big Danger: 6 Subsolar (Best Odds: $8.00) ran fifth to Mr Epic at the Doomben mile a couple of weeks back where got a long way back in the run and charged home to be only beaten three lengths. He’ll eat up the 1800m here and is bred to handle a wet track.
Roughie: 9 Really Sure (Best Odds: $17.00) broke her maiden at this track/distance a fortnight ago, aided by a cool ride from Dan Griffin, and the filly just dashed clear when asked. Harder here, but there is upside and she is bred to swim being by Not A Single Doubt, one of the best wet track sires in Australia.

Race Five (15:42) : XXXX Gold Australian Pale Ale Handicap (1MW) 1800m:
Back Me: 1 Kurtley (Best Odds: $7.00) comes through the Quirdini Cup also where he attempted to lead all the way but just felt the pinch late when running second, beaten a half length. He will run along in front here for sure, handles a wet track and should be cherry ripe fitness wise now being fourth up from a break. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: 4 Mishani Stealth (Best Odds: $7.00) is on the back up from last Saturday over the mile at Doomben when closing off nicely late in the piece to run third to Heart Of A Warrior. He has won on the back up before, and when you go back through his form in the early days, he was once upon a time four lengths off Lucky Hussler.
Roughie: 9 Buakaw (Best Odds: $21.00) ran over 1350m at Doomben last Saturday where he was just alright I thought behind Pillar Of Creation, who is one of the form gallopers in Brisbane at the moment. Up to 1800m is a query, but likes a wet track and is down in the weights after the claim.

Race Six (16:22) : Coolangatta Hotel Handicap (75) 1200m:
Back Me: 4 Dream Of Slips (Best Odds: $12.00) is a talented gelding that resumes for the Rob Heathcoate yard. He hasn’t raced since November when finishing down the track behind Remagen Bridge, beaten just under four lengths, but by then he had enough and was looking for the paddock. His two trials at Deagon has been very encouraging and he does tend to race best when produced fresh.
Big Danger: 15 Notonyourlife (Best Odds: $6.00) debuted here over 1100m a couple of weeks back and worked home strongly late when running fourth to Faiconi, beaten a length in a pleasing return to the track. She is hopeless on a wet track, which is the big negative, but her form reads well and she does have a very good second up record.
Roughie: 6 Beau Jet (Best Odds: $9.50) has had two runs back from a break, the latest coming three weeks back at Doomben when sixth to Kraftwerk, who franked the form by running a beauty in an Open Handicap behind Pillar Of Creation. On his day he is a very good horse and if the speed is on here, he can finish off better than anything.

Race Seven (17:02) : The Carbine Club Gold Coast Stakes 1200m:
Back Me: I was pretty impressed with the win of 10 Casual Choice (Best Odds: $8.00) at Doomben first up, sitting off speed before getting clear and charging home to nail Lady Jetsetter in the last couple of strides. He isn’t as good second up, but he loves a track with give in it and is down in the weights, plus he has upside.
Big Danger: Big watch on the first up run of 2 Sir Moments (Best Odds: $7.00), who is one of the better gallopers in Brisbane at the moment. This quality animal hasn’t raced since this time last year, and he actually resumed in this race where he charged home behind Rocket To Glory. He then ran behind Hopfgarten twice and then ran second to Leebaz in the Hollindale. Recent Deagon trial was very good and he has enormous class.
Roughie: 15 Florida Fellow (Best Odds: $41.00) is a specialist on his home track, winning several races here, including last start over this track/distance a month back. He’ll be on speed again and the drying conditions will help him.

Race Eight (17:40) : Currumbin Creek Tavern Handicap (Class 6) 1400m:
Back Me: Looks a lovely race once again for 4 Wild ‘N’ Famous (Best Odds: $3.80), who was well placed by Team Snowden to win at Doomben a fortnight back, aided by a lovely steer from Robbie Fradd. Loses nothing and perhaps gains a bit with Jeff Lloyd aboard, draws a good gate and can handle a wet track, so he ticks all the boxes.
Big Danger: 9 L’Entrecote (Best Odds: $11.00) ran fifth in that race mentioned above and he was a really good closer late in the race. He can be a real nutcase upstairs, and he hasn’t won for a long time but perhaps getting back onto his home track should suit.
Roughie: 5 Punta Norte (Best Odds: $14.00) drops big time in grade after contesting the Tatts Members Cup (1600m) last time out at Doomben where he was boxed away and that doesn’t suit him at all. Better suited in the clear, and being drawn wide with the drop in depth, he can bounce back to winning form.
