12/2/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben

A solid nine race program has been set down for Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out 4.5 metres for the entire circuit.

2 Warp Speed (Bet Now: $5.00) is getting to a decent fitness base now and has more upside than most. Probably ridden a touch warm at the Sunny Coast last time and that took something away from his finale I thought behind Profit, but the effort was still sound. His best is good enough to beat these.

5 Magic Conqueror (Bet Now: $4.00) is suited up in trip for Kelly Schweida. Thought it was a really good front running steer from Wilson-Taylor at the Sunny Coast last start. Looked home when he booted clear but just couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Wolf Moon. Has to be respected up in trip.

4 Group Think (Bet Now: $7.50) is a first four contender. Michelle Payne trains this gelding, who resumed at the Sunny Coast over 1400m where he was near the speed throughout and I thought he battled on okay when fourth to Renouf given he is a 2000m+ horse. Might want one more, but that resumption was encouraging.

3 Tamilaide… (Bet Now: $2.60) I was filthy with him three weeks ago because he just looked the good thing of good things, but he did absolutely nothing after getting seemingly every chance. Had to be something wrong and the vet found an abrasion in the off fore fetlock, so there was an excuse. I said last start ensured a life ban, but with a genuine excuse last time…it’s one last dance to redeem himself.

4 Indian Dreamer (Bet Now: $3.40) is three weeks between runs for Team Edmonds since a strong win at this track/distance, helped by a peach from Maloney, wearing them down late and finishing best. Tricky draw this time around, but is a last start winner against a few of these, so he commands respect.

The weather and how wet the track is will determine how strong the winning claims of 8 Alatar (Bet Now: $7.00) are. He was quite good fresh at Eagle Farm on firm ground before racing here his next two, where he has found tracks with juice in it and hasn’t been as effective. There is rain forecast for Saturday. He wants good ground.

Have to be with 4 Stardome (Bet Now: $2.60) again. Was with him when he raced over the mile here last Saturday and he looked the winner when Jim Byrne presented him but he couldn’t quite wear down a handy galloper, Ocean Treaty. Fitter and up to 2000m I like and always a tick when Waller does a seven day back up.

1 Our Candidate (Bet Now: $3.70) looks to have found a really winnable race and I think Kris Lees has him back on track. Just looked in need of the run fresh behind Kirwan’s Lane but second up, I thought his finale was quite good from near last behind Toomuchtobear in what has been a hot form reference in recent weeks. Hard to beat.

Any hint of 2 Haky (Bet Now: $26.00) producing his best and he’d blow this lot away. Just a question of how well is he going. Hard to say given all three runs this time in have come over shorter trips and he is a 2400m+ horse. He has a bit on these re class and now is getting towards a more suitable trip, so an improved showing is on the cards.

If 5 Caffrey (Bet Now: $2.70) handles Doomben okay, it all points to him winning this. He should have won first up at the Sunny Coast but just had no luck at all when wanting to build the revs, but charged late when clear when second to Wolf Moon. Fitter, he’s going to take a power of beating.

7 Knight Mariner (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Tavistock for Tony Gollan that resumes. This guy had a fruitful prep when last in work, back in the Winter of 2020, winning two of three, the defeat coming in the last run when second in the Winx Guineas behind Wapiti. He’s had two trials to get ready for his return and I think off a long break, the market will tell you how well he’s going.

3 Cracker Essgee (Bet Now: $6.00) is knocking on the door to win one and I think he gets a great chance here. Market wanted him late two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast and he tried hard, but was clearly no match for an in form Renouf, a track specialist there who spanked them. Reckon back slightly in trip helps his cause and should take beating in a race like this.

6 The Lioness (Bet Now: $4.20) has done a super job this time in for the Edmonds camp. I was with her at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago and I thought she did a very good job in inferior ground when a close up third to Wolf Moon in a driving finish. Back to 1350m is a big tick, in form, hard to beat.

5 Purroni (Bet Now: $7.50) is getting close to D-Day for Tony Gollan. Market didn’t want a bar of her late here three weeks ago and it was somewhat proven correct. She ran well but was clearly no match for Bad Barista, finishing second. The 1350m should be ideal, fitter…but it’s just about last chance territory.

3 Capri Of Tuffy (Bet Now: $6.50) is flying for Rob Heathcoate and has to be respected here. Has won three on the bounce,all wins coming at the provincials, but each time she has been impressive, and did show city class ability when trained in Sydney, so keen to see how she goes here.

13 Melisma (Bet Now: $4.00) rises a fair bit in grade/depth, but it’s hard to ignore her very sharp first up win at the Sunny Coast, where she was well backed and the support was spot on as she spanked them, running fast time and beating a quality horse in Quackery. Form out of it since has been strong and from the soft gate, she gets run of the race.

2 Boomnova (Bet Now: $4.80) is racing really well without winning. Chris Munce trained mare that ran three weeks ago in the Magic Millions QTIS race where she was near the speed throughout and tried her guts out when third to the well performed Wisdom Of Water. That clearly reads well for this.

10 Torun (Bet Now: $11.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Joe Pride, he now finds himself with the Lipp/Hahn camp at Toowoomba. He did some nice things when racing in Sydney and has some solid form lines around him. Trialled up well last week, his best can see him be dangerous here.

9 Star Gamble (Bet Now: $4.00) looks to have his share of talent for Kelly Schweida. Backed with confidence fresh at Ipswich and under a peach from Jim Byrne, he had a fair bit on them to break the maiden tag. Showed good promise as a juvenile in tidy races, so confident he can measure up here.

4 Self Indulgent (Bet Now: $4.20) was knocking on the door to win one and it finally came three weeks ago here, with her change up speed being the difference late when just getting the better of Frosty Mango in a good finish. She has the turn of foot and that last start definitely ticked the 1200m box for her, so she’s hard to beat.

6 Lovemetender (Bet Now: $13.00) is in with a shout. John Ramsey trained filly that resumed at Scone where she was close up in defeat in what I think was a solid race won by Bullinachinashop. Tick over trial was a good piece of work and she brings the different form, which can be the right form.

1 Profit (Bet Now: $2.50) has found winning form. Now can he maintain it. Brilliant initiative from KWT saw him bolt up two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast. Paced slackened so he made a quick mid race move, dashed to the front and he just kept going, romping clear for a dominant win. Now he’s found winning form, he can go on with it.

6 Humbolt Current (Bet Now: $16.00) is an interesting runner here. He comes here several weeks between runs for Chris Waller since racing over 2000m here in the Shoot Out where he got a mile out of his ground and was good late behind Smart Meteor. Freshened up back to the mile suggests that this is a prep run for something in a couple of weeks time, but stable is firing.

5 Sea Raider (Bet Now: $6.50) is racing in just about career best form for John Gilmore. Callow has really gotten the best out of this horse his past two, winning two back at the Gold Coast before proving that was no fluke with a strong win at this track/distance three weeks ago. He’ll be around the mark once again.

7 Kingston’s Here (Bet Now: $2.60) is a promising animal for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp. 3/3 this time in, with his last two coming here. It was a dead set peach from Stewart to win here three weeks ago. Gate 9/12 and he landed box seat after 200m. It was race over from that point and he was dominant. Hard to beat here.

14 Tramonto (Bet Now: $2.90) has class and that will carry him a long way here. Talented animal that resumes after a pretty good Winter/Spring, which included a second in the Goldmarket at the Gold Coast before ending the prep with a down the track effort in a messy Silver Eagle. Market will tell you if he’s ready to go.

10 Boomtown Lass (Bet Now: $17.00) should be around the mark. She tried hard at the Sunny Coast two weeks back but last race of the day, gate one was a clear disadvantage and that is how it panned out behind Mass Destruction. Back to Doomben, fairer track, she can run an improved race.

NEXT BEST: Race Nine Number 14 Tramonto

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 9 Star Gamble
