A strong card of racing has been assembled for New Years Day racing at Randwick this Friday where the feature race is the $100,000 Listed Tattersall’s Club Cup (2400m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (13:20) : All Too Hard @ Vinery Maiden Plate 1400m:
Back Me: Old North (Best Odds: $3.70) is a Godolphin galloper who resumed at Canterbury and didn’t really set the world on fire behind surprise winner Raised A Legend, so the form is a tad suspect, but bigger track, extra trip, added fitness and J McDonald on board are big positives that could spark improvement.
Big Danger: High Spirit (Best Odds: $3.50) debuted in that same race mentioned above where he was kept very safe in the market and was just fair I thought when running fourth. Trials leading in were pretty good, and on his home track now, he can definite bounce back.
Roughie: Kelvinside (Best Odds: $15.00) was kept very safe in betting last week at Warwick Farm but he overraced badly and dropped out of it to finish midfield to Reneged. The blinkers come off now, which is a positive, and a senior rider goes on now.

Race Two (13:55) : TAB More Than Just Winning Maiden Plate 1400m:
Back Me: Micucci (Best Odds: $10.00) resumed at Kembla Grange over 1300m and worked home very strongly late to run third to Rock Candy, who ran a shocker on Boxing Day at Newcastle, so the form is suspect, but the trials leading in were sharp, and this filly has upside.
Big Danger: Miss Sydney (Best Odds: $3.70) resumes here for Gerald Ryan after two runs during the Winter, both resulting in placings at the provincials. Her two trials leading in have been sharp and she looks to have really strengthened up from prep one to prep two.
Roughie: Chloe’s Comet (Best Odds: $9.00) resumed at Canterbury and never got into the race when finishing down the track behind Mossin’ Around. The trial leading in was sharp, so give her another chance, especially on her home track.

Race Three (14:30) : McNally Jones Staff Handicap (66) 1800m:
Back Me: Trafalgar (Best Odds: $7.50) had been trialling for 12 months prior to debuting over 1500m at Kembla Grange where he let down powerfully from a midfield position to win quite impressively. Love the fact that Chris Waller has sent the horse straight to town, a good indicator for mine that he rates the horse highly. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: More Than Fabulous (Best Odds: $9.00) ran over 1500m at Rosehill a fortnight back where he worked home strongly out wide and looked the winner, but the photo finish went the way of Royal Tudor. That was his first run in five weeks, so there should be upside and though his form at Randwick is suspect, he has contested some good races here.
Roughie: Calm And Serene (Best Odds: $17.00) won a two horse race last time out at Kembla Grange, where she sat off the other horse before peeling out and finishing best. Go back to her maiden win prior at Newcastle where she pulled hard yet proved too good. On that run, she can certainly make her presence felt here.

Race Four (15:05) : Cellarbrations Sprint (67) 1100m:
Back Me: Ultimate Shock (Best Odds: $2.25) made his Australian debut over 1000m at Warwick Farm on December 9 and produced a brilliant finishing burst to win quite impressively, and the time was very sharp. Was due to run last Wednesday but was scratched, but despite that, he should take some holding out.
Big Danger: Dreamlining (Best Odds: $10.00) debuted for Tony McEvoy at Goulburn on December 10 and let down with a nice turn of foot to get the job done impressively. Stable looks to have found a nice race for him here, and with natural improvement from start one to two, he will definitely measure up.
Roughie: Hot Vinni (Best Odds: $21.00) contested the Christmas Cup on his home track at Scone last time out and worked home well without threatening behind Scone specialist Pro Consul. He produced a brilliant finish to win first up at Canterbury, and the stable doesn’t send them to town for nothing.

Race Five (15:45) : Tattersall’s Club Cup 2400m:
Back Me: Going with Lucky Lucky Lucky (Best Odds: $5.50). I think had he been in the same spot as Sir John Hawkwood in the Christmas Cup (2400m), he would have won, but he had to make ground near the inside, which wasn’t the spot to be, but he was less than a half length away from winning. If he can get some better luck here, he should take tome beating.
Big Danger: Jiayuguan (Best Odds: $3.00) also comes through that race mentioned above where she just hit a flat spot at the 300m mark and took an extra couple of strides to wind up, and that probably cost her. She has been in super form since Cup Day and with a likely genuine tempo here, she’ll charge again.
Roughie: Zatopaz (Best Odds: $7.50) ran a brave fifth in the same race mentioned above before getting a well deserved win when plugging away best to win over 2400m at Warwick Farm. Now that he has got the taste of victory, he can right on with it now, and he will be out of trouble on speed.

Race Six (16:25) : Schweppes Handicap (72) 1400m:
Back Me: Big watch on Drum Roll (Best Odds: $9.00), who resumes here for David Vandyke. Quality gelding who hasn’t raced since July when racing over 2000m here, but a couple of trials have brought him up to speed, and on potential, for mine, he is clearly the best horse in the race.
Big Danger: Istanbul (Best Odds: $7.50) ran in a highway race over 1200m here a fortnight back and finished off his race quite nicely when running fifth to impressive winner Ocean Grand. He started $51 on that afternoon, which is probably the negative if you’re backing him, because you’ll get a price ridiculously shorter, but he is a definite winning chance.
Roughie: Chestnut Road (Best Odds: $12.00) ran behind Open Book last time out at this trip at Rosehill and he was quite disappointing there, but I’ll forgive him given that was his first run in over six weeks since winning over the mile here on Cup Day. He can be a definite improver here at odds.

Race Seven (17:05) : McGrath Estate Agents Mile (72) 1600m:
Back Me: The step up in trip should suit the Chris Waller trained Miss Denni (Best Odds: $7.50), Her first two runs this time in have been over 1250m at Canterbury. The first up effort behind Progressive was very good, but her last start effort behind Selita was a touch disappointing I thought. Up in trip and on a bigger track should suit her and she has run well at Randwick previously.
Big Danger: Sworntomylover (Best Odds: $5.50) didn’t have the greatest amount of luck last time out over 1300m at Warwick Farm when a closing third to impressive winner and stablemate Miss Royale. She has been knocking on the door in each run this time in, and on a bigger track here, I’ll be surprised if she doesn’t measure up.
Roughie: Circular (Best Odds: $7.00) ran over 1550m at Canterbury last time out and stuck to the task very well when fourth to All Cerise. She’s been up for a little while now, but continues to race quite well, and I don’t think she will have any trouble running the Randwick mile out.

Race Eight (17:45) : Tab.com.au Handicap (78) 1600m:
Back Me: Keen here on Frank Who (Best Odds: $8.50). He resumed over 1400m here when sitting wide no cover for the trip yet stuck on well when fifth to Mr Entertainer, and looking at the replay, about 150m after the line, he led the field. Good indication he’ll lap up the mile here, and with better luck, he’ll go very close to taking care of these.
Big Danger: Just A Blur (Best Odds: $7.50) ran over 1500m at Rosehill where she tried very hard when a close up second to Ammirata after receiving every chance in the run by Koby Jennings. Her record at Randwick is poor, but this is the easiest race she has contested here, so she should go close.
Roughie: Thurston (Best Odds: $10.00) was a little unlucky not to beat home talented type Not A Gypsy last start at Kembla given he didn’t really want to ease out behind the leader and was in restricted room. Fourth up now, so he should be ready fitness wise and gets some nice weight relief. Knockout hope at odds.
