The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide racing will take place this Saturday. The weather is overcast, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:01) Irish Raceday September 1 Handicap (64) 1300m
4 Just Rolling (Bet Now: $2.60) on top in what looks a pretty decent three year old race. Tony McEvoy trains this colt, who was hard in the market on debut at Gawler and under Luke Currie, who made the trek there for the one ride, he got the job done narrowly but impressively. Should come right on from that and take beating.
6 Caraluisa (Bet Now: $3.10) is a Macdonald/Gluyas trained filly who broke the maiden status in impressive fashion at Balaklava before racing on the course proper a fortnight back and running second to a potential Stakes class horse in Gytrash. That form reads quite well for this and the claim for Clark certainly helps.
2 Binding Force (Bet Now: $4.60) is a son of Magnus for Phillip Stokes who has had a bit of a boom on him since day one but hasn’t quite lived up to it. He ran last Wednesday over 1200m on the course proper here in a maiden and he proved too good in the run to the line, always looking the winner. This race will tell us if he’s a contender or pretender because they are talking him up as a Melbourne Spring horse.
Race 2. (13:36) UBET Handicap (86) 1550m
Looks just the perfect race for 4 Red Choux’s (Bet Now: $1.55). Darren Weir has this horse going in ripping form at the moment, winning his past two. The first of which came at Sandown in gritty circumstances and was much the same on the course proper here a fortnight back when outgunning Miss Siska. Depth nowhere near as strong here. Just has to hold his form to win.
2 Temps Voleur (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Chris Bieg trained gelding who is racing well and will make sure this is a truly run affair by being on speed. Five weeks between runs since scoring a dominant all the way win over 1700m at Gawler (Metro), admittedly helped by bias towards those on speed. But he likes the Parks track, should lead and give a sight.
1 Victory Downs (Bet Now: $8.50) will welcome the drop down in grade/depth. He comes through the Mildura Cup where he just got a touch too far back in the run and was never really likely but stuck on well in defeat behind Husson Eagle. Has quite a good record on the Parks track and has class, so has to be respected.
Race 3. (14:11) Quayclean Handicap (82) 1300m
Happy to butter up on 5 Embecee Lil (Bet Now: $3.50). This Ryan Balfour trained mare is on the quick back up after racing over 1400m here last Saturday. Thought she had her chance to win but Modulate just had it way too good in front and held her off late in a driving go. I reckon 1400m sees her right out, so back to 1300m with hopefully more tempo, she’ll do me.
4 Artie Dee Two (Bet Now: $2.00) is three weeks between runs for the Weir camp since racing down the straight at Flemington where I thought he worked home okay late in the piece behind impressive winner Overstep. Ran well here start prior behind Mystified and should welcome the weight relief. Up to 1300m suits also I think.
Up to 1300m will suit the Barry Brook trained 7 Nipperkin (Bet Now: $7.00). She was 1250m back to 1050m a fortnight back on the course proper, which was never an ideal set up, but she was an eye catcher late behind the tough campaigner Barood. Three wins from six starts at this track/distance and should be fitter.
Race 4. (14:46) AAMI Handicap (82) 2400m
8 Exalted Craftsman (Bet Now: $9.50) looks a great bet here. Grant Young is one of the most improved trainers in South Australia and this horse is a perfect example of that. He was a real plodder once upon a time but in recent runs he has really turned the corner, winning his past two in pretty impressive fashion. His confidence is sky high and this isn’t the strongest of staying races.
1 Mongolian Wolf (Bet Now: $4.50) is the best horse in the race ability wise but he’s a real think and can mix his form. Ran over this track/distance a fortnight ago and tried hard but couldn’t get the job done behind Meli Melo. If he brought his A Game, he’d bolt in…but I couldn’t back him to do that because he hasn’t done it often enough.
3 Tunes (Bet Now: $27.00) is a grand campaigner for Grant Young who has seemingly been in work since Moses parted the sea. He ran over the hurdles at Gawler last time and tried hard as he always does but gave the perfect drag up for Searaven and proved just that little bit too good in the straight. He’ll be on speed and giving his all.
Race 5. (15:26) Adelaide Image Printing Handicap (70) 1250m
Going with 8 Domination (Bet Now: $2.45) for Tony McEvoy. On the quick back up after racing over 1000m here last Saturday where I thought he did a really good job against the bias towards those on the rail when second to Accakan, who had that dream run on the inside. Up to 1250m, hard fit, he’ll do me here.
5 Raiza Flame (Bet Now: $3.30) is a Shea Eden trained gelding who doesn’t bring the strongest of form over from Victoria but one box he ticks big time is the wet track. Comes through a 1000m benchmark race last time at Bairnsdale and ran well but was no match for a handy horse in Necessary. Bit more depth to this field, but wet track yes, gate one yes and the claim for Jackie Chan yes.
1 Daktari (Bet Now: $21.00) is such an interesting runner. Eight years of age and is having just start ten so has clearly had his issues but no denying the talent, winning four races. Hasn’t raced since early April when finishing midfield over the mile behind Rising Hope. Resumes without a trial, but can sprint well fresh.
Race 6. (16:06) Welcome Archie Nunn Handicap (70) 1950m
Have to side with 9 Star Patriot (Bet Now: $4.00). This mare ran over the 2000m on the course proper two weeks ago and the way she was trucking in the run, she never looked like getting beat and the margin really flattered her rivals. She isn’t the type to put them away by a space but it was dominant. She can repeat the dose here.
5 Nacar (Bet Now: $10.00) should go close to winning but he’s getting very close to D-Day. Was on him a few weeks back at Gawler (Metro) over 1700m where he tried hard but the on pace bias and sticky track was against him. Ability wise, he’s got lengths on these. Just needs to put it together on race day now. Confident he can…but it’s near last chance.
14 Emil (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Blevic gelding for the Michael O’Leary team who is a while between runs since racing over 2000m at Casterton where he lapped up the wet track to surge hard late and grab a well deserved win after a couple of really good runs prior. Looks to be in career best form and deserves a crack in town.
Race 7. (16:46) MyPunter.com Handicap (70) 1000m
Siding with 8 Nodoubtaboutit (Bet Now: $5.50) but she is getting quite close to D-Day in terms of being a betting prospect. Ran over the 1050m on the course proper two weeks ago where she settled off the speed but got clear air at the right time, looming large to win, but just couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Barood. If she brings her best, she wins. Hoping she does indeed do that.
6 Zalmona (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Peter Blanch trained galloper who isn’t far away from a win if the resumption is any guide. Loved the way he closed off and just missed out on the win when a narrow second to Barood. Has placed six from seven on the Parks track without winning. Second up syndrome a query, but he’s got the class to be in the mix.
1 Live Fast (Bet Now: $14.00) is a six year old gelding making his SA debut for the Gary Searle team. This bloke was based in Queensland when trained by Tony Sears and was a pretty consistent city performer, winning a couple of races in town. Resumes with no public trials, but if we get a wet track, gee he comes right into play.
Race 8. (17:25) Pinot Palooza Handicap (70) 1400m
8 Autumn Street (Bet Now: $3.80) on top in the get out. Thought Huxtable rode the mare an absolute treat when winning on the course proper last Wednesday, admittedly not up against much but it was the ride that won the race from the front. Think she’ll lead again and she does save her best for wet tracks.
6 Snowbrook (Bet Now: $4.20) has been really good this prep for Gary Searle and got a well deserved win on the board last time at Gawler when getting the suck run behind the speed before angling into clear and wearing down a handy type in Exalted Lauretta. Run prior behind Miss Siska was quite good and that reads well for this.
7 Valliano (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Bill Papazaharoudakis trained galloper, formerly with the Hayes/Dabernig team, that had his first run for the new stable four weeks back over 1200m on the course proper and got a pass mark for mine behind impressive winner Hard Empire, who franked the form last Saturday. Not as much depth this. Just has to tick the wet track box.
