A strong nine race meeting has been assembled for Gawler on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:01) Happy 21st Lauren Paues (66) 1100m
2 War Cheval (Bet Now: $3.70) for me in the opener. Son of Warhorse on debut for the John Hickmott stable who has had a couple of jumpouts this prep to get ready for the debut, winning them both. Was impressed by the recent jumpout at Gawler when leading throughout and looking to go about his business quite nicely. Should land in front from the gate and prove hard to beat.
7 Who Runs The World (Bet Now: $4.50) is a Team McEvoy filly that was one of many that had zero hope the way the track played on the Parks track two weeks ago when back off the speed set by the eventual winner Theresabearinthere, who found the fast lane and was too nippy. She’ll improve off that and can bounce back.
6 Three Tears (Bet Now: $15.00) is a daughter of Helmet for Peter Hardacre that resumed on the Parks track a fortnight back behind Theresabearinthere when wide no cover for the trip and the way the track played, I’d just forget she went around. Debut run back in the Autumn at Murray Bridge was good and off that, can threaten here.
Race 2. (12:36) Tab Mdn Plate 1100m
Think the form around 6 Our Boy Bailey (Bet Now: $5.00) is good enough to beat these first up. Peter Hardacre trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since March 28 on the Parks track when doing a bit of work to find the front from a wide gate and tired late when fifth to Intrigue. Recent Bordertown trial was good and should prove hard to beat.
8 Lyrickin’s Dream (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Grant Kluske trained mare that resumes. She’s having start 20 so she has had numerous chances to break the maiden tag but has been around the mark a few times, placing on five occasions. No trial/jumpout for her so not sure what her fitness levels are at. I’d watch the yard/market.
4 The Bull McCabe (Bet Now: $2.90) is a son of Ambidexter that resumed a couple of weeks back at Murray Bridge when four wide no cover for the trip and fought on well, but bumped into a future city class horse IMO in The Brumby so I’m tipping that form to be alright and if he can get better luck this time around, he’ll take some beating.
Race 3. (13:11) Barringtonbookmaking.com 64)( 1200m
8 Icecrusher (Bet Now: $3.10) has done a really good job since joining the Shayne Cahill team. Big win last Wednesday at Balaklava, charging home from near last out wide to get up and beat a handy field, handy in the sense of this grade. Drops back to Mares grade and placed in her lone run at the track. Likeable against these.
6 Mabel Josephine (Bet Now: $4.00) comes back to 1200m for Kristi Evans after racing over 1300m a fortnight back on the Parks track where she was back off the speed and it was a meeting where those on speed were advantaged, so I’d be forgiving of that effort behind Task And Purpose. Back to 1200m I do like and can bounce back.
4 With Pleasure (Bet Now: $4.60) is a daughter of Magnus that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since May 5 at Murray Bridge when leading and giving a bold sight. Just felt the pinch late when third to track specialist Putting On Airs. Loves racing at Gawler and with her racing pattern, she’ll give a sight and give them something to chase.
Race 4. (13:46) G&j Civil (bm78) 2100m
6 Manzala (Bet Now: $3.80) for me. Ashton Downing trains this son of Poet’s Voice, who did work to find the front two weeks ago on the Parks track but with the pattern in his favour, thought he was perhaps entitled to finish his race off a bit better when third to Busker’s Ballad. Perhaps with a more conservative steer, he’ll be more effective.
7 Muntham Missile (Bet Now: $10.00) is certainly worthy of a shot at Saturday metro level and she does find a winnable race. This mare has won two on the bounce, bolting up two back at Mount Gambier before going to Bordertown where Tourneur put her into a sweet spot just off the speed and once she peeled out on the turn, it was race over. Runner up won last Wednesday, so the form has been franked and she’s a mare in form.
8 Exalted Ruth (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Grant Young trained daughter of Good Journey that was very good two back at Morphettville behind Woolsthorpe Store before racing last Saturday at Murray Bridge, coming back to 1600m, and I thought she closed off really well in an on pace dominated affair won by Blow Torch. Back up in trip, she’s likeable.
Race 5. (14:26) Taylor & Forgie Funerals (72) 1500m
5 Sign Of Ussuri (Bet Now: $1.80) can continue his winning ways. The McEvoy camp has this three year old in a real purple patch at the moment. Gave them a spanking over 1400m at Murray Bridge two back before continuing on from that at Morphettville three weeks ago and he was much too good, again the last bit of the race being the most impressive. He can win again.
1 Crockett (Bet Now: $6.00) can bounce back here for the McEvoy team. He was very good in defeat on the Parks track two weeks ago I thought. France’s Boy got an absolute picnic in front and gave nothing else a look in, winning comfortably, but Crockett kept battling away and was good. Hopefully the tempo is more genuine this time around.
6 Analytica (Bet Now: $13.00) is worth another look. First run for Travis Doudle came two weeks ago on the Parks track where the market thought he was no chance and it was right. Had the suck run in behind the speed but when pressure was applied to build the revs, he didn’t find a great deal. Better than that, so up in trip, give him another chance.
Race 6. (15:06) Adelaide Plains B'stock (58) 1700m
6 Just Rolling (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Sue Jaensch trained gelding that landed some decent bets at odds when resuming with a win over the mile at Murray Bridge, coming with a strong finale from near last and despite wanting to lay in under pressure, he was too good. Hard to knock that win and you’d like to think there’s more to come.
Was on 2 Call Me Shamus (Bet Now: $5.50) last time out and happy to include again. Just think the track bias was against him two weeks ago on the Parks track. Got back when he couldn’t really take advantage of the inside gate but was still good in defeat behind Rothmoore. Classy Joe, the runner up, ran well last Saturday so the form reads okay and up to 1700m suits.
4 Getouttheway (Bet Now: $3.80) is a Sue Nolan trained gelding who is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Murray Bridge where he got back off the speed and looked to get the right run into the race but he couldn’t finish off and was quite disappointing. He’s better than that and likes racing at Gawler, so giving him another chance.
Race 7. (15:46) Coopers Xpa (rs2ly) 1100m
11 Octane (Bet Now: $2.30), if he’s within range on the turn, looks the winner. Above average sprinter for Phillip Stokes that resumed three weeks ago at Morphettville where he was ridden very negatively from the gate and spotted those in front an impossible start. Did a remarkable effort to get as close as he did. Much better suited here and should take some beating.
7 Brimarvi Vehero (Bet Now: $6.00) can bounce back. Ran over 1000m on the Parks track two weeks ago where like most, I was keen on his chances, but the track pattern was against him and he couldn’t finish his race off as well as expected behind Irish Mint, but in saying that, he could have done a bit more late. I think up to 1100m and hard fit now, he can get back into the winners list.
5 Tatoosh (Bet Now: $15.00) is a son of Beneteau for Will Clarken that resumes. It’s probably been around a year since we’ve seen anything near his best but he’s still got enough talent to take some beating here. Wheels kind of fell off towards the end of last prep but liked the way he went in a recent Gawler jumpout and can sprint well fresh.
Race 8. (16:26) Gbjc Thanks It's Members (66) 1200m
4 The Natural (Bet Now: $2.70) is worth another chance I feel. Was on her when she resumed at Sandown but she just went way too keen in the run near the speed and tired badly late behind Beatrix. Market didn’t want a bar of her as well so they got it right. Suspect overall form, but in the right stable and this race has little depth.
1 Classy Jaybee (Bet Now: $3.70) deserves a crack at Saturday grade. Gave them a spanking first up over 1100m here before going to Balaklava last Wednesday when near the speed throughout and was there to be run down, but he found plenty and kicked on strongly to win. 1200m might see him out but he’s got the right racing pattern.
Interesting placement here by Beetroot Williams when it comes to his filly 8 Renouf (Bet Now: $8.50). Lovely ride from Yendall saw her win first up at Donald before going to Geelong where she was back near last in a slowly run race but worked home well behind a good one in Wicklow Town. She’ll want a good tempo but gate one helps.
Race 9. (17:05) Cornerstone Stud (bm64) 1200m
Going for some value in the get out via 14 Call Me Dexter (Bet Now: $12.00). Had some market support at a price when racing over 1200m at Balaklava in a maiden last time out and what I liked was the turn of foot he produced when he got the split and was strong to the line in winning. Form out of that has been franked, the form from the start prior is outstanding and double figures seems more than acceptable.
10 I’m A Legend (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Kristi Evans trained son of Nicconi that is racing in just about career best form. Tempo was against him two back behind Just Kappy before racing over 1200m at Morphettville where he got back and closed off hard late to just miss out on the win when third to Beeokay. He’s going well and can take this out.
12 Sunmate (Bet Now: $5.00) can be an improver here. Ran over 1200m at Morphettville three weeks ago where he just got a fraction too far back in the run and I’m not sure he was 100% happy on the very wet track behind Beeokay. That was his first run in over a month, so you’d like to think there is plenty of room for improvement.
