Brisbane racing this Saturday heads to Doomben for a handy card and while there are no feature races, the depth looks very good once again. The weather is overcast, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:17) : Buy A Bale Handicap 1050m:
Back Me: Going with 3 The Storeman (Bet Now: $4.40). He resumed at Toowoomba and was an alarming drifter in betting ($4-$7-$5.50) and ran accordingly behind proven city performer Tisani Tomso. He has an outstanding at the track, the track/distance, second up…I think he is a real sharp improver.
Big Danger: 1 Saluter (Bet Now: $3.70) hasn’t raced since July 30 over 1350m here when sitting on speed and tiring late when midfield to Lucky Tom. He saves his best for the sprint trips and this is a significant drop in depth. If he brings his best, he’ll go close.
Roughie: 2 Hard Stride (Bet Now: $5.00) is the very interesting runner engaged here. Former Ellerton/Zahra galloper that had two runs for Tony Sears in the early part of the Brisbane Carnival and was just fair. He has now had a proper grounding under Sears and he has had a pretty good run with these tried horses eg Pillar Of Creation. Market watch.
Race Two (12:52) : Bartercard Country Cup 1200m:
Back Me: In a tough race, I’ve landed with 10 Bizarre Rock (Bet Now: $8.50). This six year old ran at Beaudesert last time out where he sat on speed most of the way and fought on quite well when running a game second to Landale. Overall form is very solid, he’s reliable and should be in it for a long way,
Big Danger: 1 Heroic Action (Bet Now: $6.00) had his first run for Ben Currie at Toowoomba a fortnight ago in an open handicap and was game in defeat behind Ol’ Brown Eyes, beaten just over a length. Drops a bit in depth and should take some beating with upside.
Roughie: 2 Mishani Gladiator (Bet Now: $8.00) resumed at Dingo in a 900m sprint and got the job done narrowly. Not sure how the Dingo form will stack up against the rest, but in a prior life, he did perform well in town and he will appreciate the step up to 1200m.
Race Three (13:27) : Integrapay Handicap 2200m:
Back Me: 5 My Diamantine (Bet Now: $4.20) ran over 2000m here a fortnight back where he had solid market support at longer odds and that was justified as he closed off strongly late between runners to run third to La Spiaggia. The extra furlong is right up his alley and he should have improvement given that was his first run in six weeks. Leading contender for me.
Big Danger: 1 Black Jag (Bet Now: $6.00) ran sixth in that race mentioned above, and I thought his effort was pretty brave given he copped pressure on speed throughout and did give a really good kick in the straight, but just tired the final 150m. If he doesn’t cop as much pressure here, he’ll be a tough nut to crack for sure.
Roughie: 9 Ranked (Bet Now: $9.50) ran over 1800m at the Sunny Coast a couple of Sundays back and did a good job to finish as close as he did given the leaders absolutely crawled in front (first 1200m in nearly 1:20). He has a really good record at 2000m+, he comes from a different form line, he has a stack of upside and does have a solid record on the track.
Race Four (14:07) : Super Butcher Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Ringo’s A Rockstar (Bet Now: $3.10) beat most of these here a fortnight back when sitting back in the run and producing a lovely turn of foot to win, which followed an impressive trial win, so he has clearly come back in good order and actually drops 1.5kg in weight for winning. On that basis, you’d be surprised if anything from that race will turn the tables here.
Big Danger: 3 Mishani Sleuth (Bet Now: $11.00) was well backed to win here a fortnight back but unfortunately for his supporters, he just did too much on speed and tired late to run fourth to Ringo’s A Rockstar. If he can get a softer trip this time around, he can bounce back for sure.
Roughie: 7 Dapper One (Bet Now: $21.00) was a total forgive run in that same race mentioned above given he was four wide no cover for the entire trip on a hot speed and rightfully finished last. Draws much better here and Tegan rides. I can see her punching this horse out of the gates, leading and giving a bold sight at odds.
Race Five (14:43) : PFD Foods Handicap (85) 1200m:
Back Me: 6 Sony Legend (Bet Now: $5.50) was well backed late when resuming at Eagle Farm a few weeks back and gee the punters got it spot on, because as soon as he peeled out, the race was all over and he ended up winning by a space. He save best for early on in a prep, and while he is in that sort of form, you can’t ignore.
Big Danger: 13 Land Office (Bet Now: $2.80) was backed as if unbeatable when racing at this track/distance a fortnight back and the punters got it absolutely right as the five year old led throughout and absolutely bolted in. His last two wins have been dominant and there is no reason why he can’t continue the picket fence.
Roughie: 4 Big Tree (Bet Now: $9.00) is a really talented galloper that resumes for Peter Balzen. He contested some high quality races during the Carnival, including a midfield effort behind Takedown in the Gold Coast Guineas. His trials leading in have been sharp and he does love racing when produced fresh.
Race Six (15:22) : Heaton Ferns & Anthuriums Plate (Class 6) 1350m:
Back Me: 2 Sea Red (Bet Now: $6.00) ran behind Mr Epic four weeks back and really, she had no hope given the on speed bias that afternoon, but under the circumstances, her run was one of the best of the afternoon. If the track plays fair and every horse gets their chance, I think she is the winner.
Big Danger: 12 Pepperano (Bet Now: $3.90) ran over 1200m here two weeks ago and closed off hard late to run second to impressive winner Pienkna, beaten just under half a length. That was her second run since December, so she should have improvement in her and she can certainly win this.
Roughie: 5 Action Button (Bet Now: $10.00) ran over this track/distance on August 17 and stuck to the task very well I thought when running third to Bracteate, who ran well here in defeat next time out, so the form doesn’t read too bad and with Action Button, I think she likes to race on the fresh side.
Race Seven (16:02) : Connected Australia Plate (Class 6) 1350m:
Back Me: 12 Monsieur Gustave (Bet Now: $2.10) has won two from two this time in, and on both occasions he has been smashed in betting, like he was over this track/distance a fortnight back when leading and bolting up. He has a stack of upside I suspect and he now gets a 3kg weight drop. You’d be a brave man to tip against him, because I just think he picks himself.
Big Danger: 1 Friendly Dragon (Bet Now: $26.00) resumed at Eagle Farm and made up eye catching ground late to run fourth to Hidden Dragon, who went to Randwick last weekend and was far from disgraced. Horror record at Doomben, but the compressed field with the scratchings helps his cause.
Roughie: 15 Sharpe Hussler (Bet Now: $16.00) ran over 1200m at Eagle Farm three weeks ago and worked home really nicely late to run fifth to Tailevent, who was well backed to win. Right down in the weights, handles a wet track and Tarrant has been in fab form since returning.
Race Eight (16:42) : 4 Real Milk Handicap (75) 1615m:
Back Me: 14 Bound For Love (Bet Now: $3.60) ran over the mile at Eagle Farm three weeks back and the mare just absolutely loved her winning, spanking her rivals by nearly four lengths and increasing the margin with every stride. She is in a great frame of mind at the moment and she can continue on for sure.
Big Danger: 13 Silento (Bet Now: $4.60) was an impressive winner here two back over subsequent Saturday winner Bentles before going to the Sunny Coast where I thought he was a tad disappointing, but perhaps the rain affected track wasn’t his go. D Browne on from a good draw, down in the weights. Big improver.
Roughie: 9 Fusina (Bet Now: $5.00) ran a couple of weeks back over the Sunny Coast mile where he sat off speed and chased hard throughout but the slow tempo was perhaps against him when running fifth to proven city performer Yoho. With a more genuine tempo here, which is likely, he could improve sharply.
