The biggest and best raceday for Queensland racing is Stradbroke Handicap Day at Eagle Farm and the 2023 edition rolls around this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

11 Isthmus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given another look. She was backed with confidence when debuting at Flemington a few weeks back and did more than enough. In the run, she was the only one you wanted to be on given how she trucked but she just whacked when let down, finishing third to Scheelite. Bred to appreciate 1300m and you have to respect the strong market push she had for start one.

1 Namesake (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the Celestial Legend form, which looks to be one of the leading form references for the juveniles this season. That run came three weeks ago at Rosehill where they rode him warm on speed and he tried hard but couldn’t quite finish the race off, eventually settling for fourth. Reckon with a more patient steer, a bunny to chase, he’ll be more effective.

5 Abounding (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing like a rise to 1300m will be ideal. Three weeks between runs since contesting the Carter at Doomben when closing off with purpose but couldn’t quite get the win when a narrow second to Zia. That is three runs on the bounce at 1200m so the rise to 1300m is ideal and the depth here, as a whole, isn’t deep. Leading contender.

1 Yellow Brick (Bet Now:  $SP.00) wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Stradbroke but this looks a nice back up for him. Dominant winner of the Gold Coast Guineas fresh at the Sunny Coast before racing here two weeks ago in the Fred Best in search of a Stradbroke berth but things didn’t eventuate for him when a closing second to Hawaii Five Oh. He’ll love the rise to 1600m and hard fit, could be a case of good luck beating him.

4 Rediener (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a three year old heading in the right direction for Chris Waller and clearly appeals against these. It was an ugly watch at Gosford two back when spotting them too big of a head start behind Token Capitalist before going to Rosehill where Franklin sent him straight to the front and once that eventuated, it was race over, and he spanked them. The way he finds the line, 1600m against these is no issue and is a key threat.

2 Soothsayer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a proven miler and has upside so don’t dismiss him. He ran a ripper behind Yellow Brick in the Gold Coast Guineas, which was why he was kept relatively safe in betting in the Fred Best but he just got into a tricky spot from the wide gate and couldn’t get involved behind Hawaii Five Oh. He’ll love the rise to 1600m and with a positive steer, he can take this out without totally shocking.

5 Sinawann (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat with his absolute best. The query being he hasn’t really produced his best in some time but the return a few weeks ago was encouraging. That came in the BRC Sprint at Doomben and found the line quite well from near last on the turn behind Surf Dancer. Tick over trial last week at the Sunny Coast was strong and up in trip, he’ll be stronger than most late.

8 Antino (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a nice horse and wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Stradbroke but was too far down the order of entry and instead runs here. He ran over 1400m here two weeks ago and I thought the win had good merit to it given he did work to the front before Orman stacked them up and that breather was the winning move as it allowed him to kick strongly at the end. 1600m no issue, hard to beat.

2 Dark Destroyer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to the mile. Kiwi Group l winner who resumed several weeks back in the BRC Sprint at Doomben where he got dragged back from the wide gate and just couldn’t get involved, finishing down the track behind Surf Dancer. Great second up record and is much better suited up in trip, so I wouldn’t be dismissing him.

Hard to knock 9 Teofilo Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for GaiBott. It looks like his future could well be jumping but he showed last Saturday at Flemington that he is capable on the flat, spanking them from the front and gave nothing else a look in. He’s had the right grounding for the 3200m assignment, he likely leads this field up and will take a power of beating I’d suggest.

10 Outlandos (Bet Now:  $SP.00) a proven stayer that will keep finding the line so he has to be respected. He tried his best to throw the race away a few weeks back but thankfully he had enough momentum to get the win, just. He will see the trip out better than most and now with a win on the board, his confidence is up, so he’s one of the leading chances.

2 Platinum Invader (Bet Now:  $SP.00) won the Auckland Cup over two miles in March so with that in mind, I think this former Kiwi commands some level of respect. He ran two weeks back in the Premiers Cup where he got a fair way out of his ground and worked to the line okay without threatening behind Kukeracha. Fitter, up in trip, I wouldn’t be dismissing him.

15 King Kapa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous with his best. Too bad to be true fresh over 1000m here when down the track behind Richon. He then went to the Chief De Beers and ran a much improved race in defeat from on speed when a narrow third to Mishani Sniper. He’s hard fit now, gets to his ideal trip, lands near the speed, definite chance.

7 The Big Goodbye (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is such an honest animal for Rob Heathcoate that has to be respected. He ran in the Chief De Beers and kept finding the line from just off the speed, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Mishani Sniper. Back up to 1200m and back to Eagle Farm, where he loves, he’ll take beating.

11 Blondeau (Bet Now:  $SP.00) deserves another look. Chris Waller trained gelding that resumed a few weeks back in the Luskin Star at Scone and wasn’t too bad in defeat after getting back to near last in the run, making up ground without threatening. He has a good second up record and in a fast run 1200m, can see him sitting back and looking to launch at the end.

3 Without A Fight (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be the one to beat. Team Freedman trained imported stayer that resumed two weeks ago over 1800m here and for the most part, he looked like he would be an eye catcher, but the last 200m or so, he put the afterburners on and absolutely gapped them for an outstanding win. Can only see upside/improvement and up to 2200m, could be a case of good luck beating him.

12 Duais (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a top class mare when she is on song and I think she is on song this prep. Resumed three weeks ago in the Doomben Cup and I thought she was very good in defeat, getting back in the run and closing off with purpose behind Huetor. Has that run under the belt, good upside to come and if she runs up to the resumption, she’s hard to beat.

5 Nonconformist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous if he is switched on. Just no idea what to make of the Doomben Cup run. At one stage, it looked like the ambulance would beat him, but he picked up the last 200m and savaged the line, albeit he beat just one runner home. Like him up in trip and we know that his best is just about the best in Australia at 2000m+.

8 Chevron (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is still a maiden after six starts but I think he is flying and can certainly take this out. Like most engaged here, he ran two weeks ago in the Sires and was excellent from near last in the run, beaten just under three lengths by impressive winner Cifrado. He has been getting a mile out of his ground this time in but if he is able to settle closer, gee I think he’ll run a big race.

4 Make A Call (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very smart maiden for Team Snowden that is one of the key chances. It was well debated the Sires and his run, whether he would have won or not. He likely does win the race, but saying definitely he wins is another matter. Either way, it was an ugly watch behind Cifrado. Fitter and up to the mile, more positive ride, he can certainly take this out.

10 Solidify (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is too good of a horse to pen off one run. And it was a clear forgive run in the Sires I thought. He got badly checked early on in the straight and it took the wind right out of his sails, so forgive and forget the run behind Cifrado. He showed elite quality in NZ and was kept safe in betting in the Sires. I think he shouldn’t be dismissed.

9 Think About It (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be rated as the one to beat. The Kingsford Smith two weeks ago was his first look against the big boys and girls at WFA and he passed with flying colours, once again showcasing his line finding qualities to win again. At the weights, he looks so well in, and was only second up, so he’s got plenty of room for improvement.

18 Hawaii Five Oh (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is putting it together and is very dangerous. The ride from Nash was 12/10 in the Fred Best two weeks ago and no doubt in my mind that the ride won the race, getting a margin on Yellow Brick and maintained it in the run to the line. He can be a bit erratic re racing manners but in recent runs he has been much better and right down in the weights, clearly appeals.

4 Scallopini (Bet Now:  $SP.00) a big track horse so getting to Eagle Farm from Doomben is a big tick. Resumed in the BRC Sprint and was brave as ever on speed behind Surf Dancer. He loves a fast run 1400m and has home track advantage so he has a bit going for him to run a bold race.

15 Opal Ridge (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a filly that I think could measure up in an Everest. She is that good. Her win in the Luskin Star at Scone, her change up speed, was that of a Group l horse and she has shown this prep that dry ground is right up her street. I’d love to see her in the Stradbroke but likely runs here, wins here, wins the Tatts Tiara and confirms her spot in The Everest.

1 September Run (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a fair bit on these in terms of class and runs on the board. Just a matter of where she is at given she hasn’t raced since the Sangster at Morphettville when doing too much work on speed. Think with a more patient steer, a drag into the race and launch late.

4 Promise Of Success (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will likely be spotting them a start but should be quite strong at the end. She resumed two weeks back in the Helen Coughlan where she got a mile out of her ground, back to near last in the run, and made up solid headway without threatening behind Comrade Rosa. Better for the run under the belt, she’s dangerous.

BEST BET: Race Nine Number 15 Opal Ridge

NEXT BEST: Race Six Number 3 Without A Fight

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 8 Chevron
