10/3/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville, Adelaide Cup day

A bumper nine event card has been set down for Morphettville on Monday for Adelaide Cup Day. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

3 Hard Prince (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it. That win came over 1800m here just over two weeks ago where he got into a decent spot behind the speed before angling clear and knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. Back in trip no issue and looks to have found a very winnable race.

7 Chambers Bay (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Just looked in need of the run fresh at Murray Bridge before having three weeks off and racing here a few weeks ago when back off the speed and made up minimal headway behind Sabaj. Hard fit now and up to 1600m, he appeals against these.

10 Master At Arms (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes through the Hard Prince race mentioned above. He got off speed and while he was never a winning threat, he kept chasing and was pretty good in defeat. If he can get a drag into the race, he’s dangerous at a price.

6 Free Beer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is better suited over slightly further but he is a really nice horse for Justin Pickering that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Nov 9 on the Parks track where it looked an end of prep run, finishing down the track behind Misludi. He can sprint well and his recent trial was good to my eye.

2 Steel Tsunami (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a three year old heading in the right direction for Clarken/O’Shea and is one of the key chances. He has won two on the bounce, the latest win being over 1050m here when on speed and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found to fend them off. Harder here, but think he can measure up.

10 Lapilli (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes to town for Team Jolly off the back of a first up win at Naracoorte where she was ridden like she was the best horse in the race and duly saluted to win and win well. Has run at metro level before and this isn’t a deep contest.

7 Super Alana (Bet Now:  $SP.00) seems the most obvious here. Francis/Kent trained mare that hasn’t raced since Feb 8 when near the speed at this track/distance and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through. But, she was beaten by a potential Stakes class horse, Sabaj. That form reads very well and she gets B Shinn.

1 Dual Pressure (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very, very interesting runner. He hasn’t raced since Ballarat Cup Day when racing over 1400m and was as game as ever in defeat behind a borderline Stakes class horse, The Open. That form clearly reads well for this and his trial work has been strong since joining Bain/Taylor.

2 Yasuke (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of racing patterns but can launch at them late, as seen early on in the prep. Last start, I think they rode him a touch too warm near the speed and he couldn’t quite finish off. More patient ride, he can bounce back.

I reckon 2 Morty (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps at the big odds. I was keen on his chances in the Port Lincoln Cup last time out but he was given a really ordinary ride I thought by Tootell. Four wide for a fair chunk of the race…just a nothing ride and the horse ran accordingly. Big upgrade in rider and maps much better this time around. Keen to speck at the odds.

6 Madison Kate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing really well at present for Phillip Stokes and has to be respected as one of the key chances. She ran over 2000m last Thursday night at Pakenham where she was back and held up at times before eventually getting clear and found the line okay behind Burlington Gate. Returns to SA, has run well here previously and this is a winnable race.

12 Bellavardo (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 2000m after racing over 2250m on the Parks track when off speed and kept working to the line without threatening behind Sebonna. That form does read well enough for this and with a more positive ride, he’s dangerous.

5 A Samurai Mind (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since a first up win over 1250m on the Parks track here when leading throughout and credit to him, he found when asked and was strong to the line in winning. Good upside to come and despite coming to 1600m, he’s got enormous upside.

3 Elphinstone (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can bounce back. Total forgive at Caulfield last time behind Duke De Sessa, getting stuck wide no cover for a fair chunk of the race and just felt the pinch late. J Melham on and with a better run in transit, she can take this out.

7 Angelic Appeal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over this trip at Morphettville Parks where she was given a sore back by Opperman I thought, getting caught wide no cover for the trip and that early burn just told, but she was quite gallant in defeat I thought given the torrid run. I think she’s one for exotics.

9 Gala Queen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a filly I have plenty of time for and up to 1600m, I say she takes beating. She ran in the Futures Final at Pakenham where she got too far back in the run and was held up at times but when clear, she savaged the line and was very good late. Like her up to 1600m and with clear air, she takes a power of beating.

1 Sabaj (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very promising three year old for Team Jolly that is 3/3 to start his career. Latest win was over 1500m here a tick over two weeks ago where, like first up, he got better as the race went on and was impressive in the run to the line. 1600m looks ideal…the only knock is that he does still a bit wrong.

4 Menzah One (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a last start maiden winner but he looks to have ability. That last start maiden win came at Kilmore where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted, albeit he didn’t beat much. Lands in a good spot from the draw and is one for exotics.

4 Taramansour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the one from the Lord Reims into this race. He made a long sustained run from the back and drove hard, just missing out on the win in a close finish. The two miles is fine, he’ll get a beaut run in transit and take beating.

2 Promises Kept (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner for Ciaron Maher. I would pen him given he’s been a busy horse. But, the saving grace is he gets B Shinn and the man can do no wrong in the saddle at the moment. He does command a level of respect.

11 Highland Blaze (Bet Now:  $SP.00) lacks the class of some of these but one thing he does have in his corner is that he will eat up the two miles. Hasn’t raced since Feb 19 when a dominant winner over 3000m at Sandown and has been kept up to the mark with a jumps trial, so fitness is no issue, and with his racing style, he’ll run a beauty.

4 Prairie Flower (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should take a power of beating here I say. She comes through the Oakleigh Plate where you can make a case she should have been right in the finish but had zero luck in the straight. She returns home, she’s flying and with better luck in transit, I think it could be a case of good luck beating her.

8 Sir Sway (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Jaensch trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Nov 23 when a strong winner over 1200m when leading throughout and credit to him, he found under pressure to fend them off and score. He’ll land near the front and only run well.

14 Tiffany Valentine (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with her best. She comes through the City Of Marion where she was back in a fast run race and just couldn’t get involved behind impressive winner Taunting. Back to 1100m, she can run an improved race at odds.

6 Startide (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps in the get out. Phillip Stokes trained mare that has won at the track/distance previously. Hasn’t raced since Feb 8 at this track/distance when back and made up some headway without threatening behind Overextend. Good speed in front, she’ll sit off it and be strong at the end.

3 Fun Forever (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since a win over this trip on the Parks track. He lobbed into a beaut spot off the speed and was trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. Maps ideally again and is one of the hardest to beat.

10 Shadowfax (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver at odds. He ran at Kangaroo Island last start when wide throughout, doing too much wrong, and that early burn just told on her late in the piece behind Babayka. Better run in transit, he can be a knockout hope.

BEST BET: Race Eight Number 4 Prairie Flower

NEXT BEST: Race Six Number 9 Gala Queen

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 6 Startide
