SA metro racing this Saturday heads to Murray Bridge. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out ten metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out three metres from the Winning Post-1600m; True for the remainder.

Race 1. (12:02) Mt Lofty Ranges Vineyard 2Yo 1200m
2 Proven Correct (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will love getting to 1200m on the big track. I was keen on him last Wednesday at Gawler over 1100m but he just found them too sharp and only got warm very late in the piece behind Sweet Rock Candy to run third. Hard fit and up in trip, bigger track, more time to wind up, he can certainly finish over the top.
6 Lapilli (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks like she will take beating here. Team Jolly trained filly that debuted a few weeks ago on the Parks track here where she got back in the small field from the inside but tracked up and found the line strongly when second to Walk Like An Angel. Should be better for the debut run under the belt and if she can settle closer in the run, she’ll take beating.
3 Voltage Point (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can be an improver for Chris Bieg. He debuted in the Walk Like An Angel race from a few weeks back where he was kept pretty safe in betting and while he was never a threat, I didn’t mind the way he found the line late in the piece, beaten over four lengths by the Macdonald/Gluyas juvenile. Had trialled well prior to the debut so don’t dismiss him.
Race 2. (12:37) M Bridge Cup Book Now (Bm70) 2500m
4 Keevs (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be the one to beat. Rob Blacker trained three year old that has won two on the bounce, the latest win coming two weeks ago at this track/distance where I thought the win was massive. He was there near the speed and was there to be beaten by Wolf Prince, but he fought hard under pressure and on the line, safely held his rivals at bay to score. No reason why he can’t win again.
6 Wolf Prince (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Grant Young and he strikes a winnable race once again. He ran a fortnight back at this track/distance where he got a mile back in the run in a race where they ran it at a genuine tempo and when the leaders stopped, he was there to win but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Keevs. Think he’s hard to beat against these.
10 Hallaroste (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one that can pinch a first four spot. He ran in the Keevs race from two weeks back and I think you have to be very forgiving of the run where he was near the genuine speed throughout and just couldn’t sustain the run, finishing down the track behind Keevs. Think with a more patient steer, his prior form was solid enough to command some level of respect here.
Race 3. (13:12) Bridges Event Centre (Bm68) 1200m
Tricky race to sort out with confidence but I have landed with 4 Oceanography (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), who is having his first run for David Jolly after formerly being with Maher/Eustace. His best form is at the mile but he’s looked strong to my eye in a couple of trials and the stable do have a good record with tried horses. Looks like it will be truly run so he’ll get his chance to finish over the top.
7 Classy Kenny (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to rate highly against this lot. Hickmott/Riggs trained gelding that is a few weeks between runs since contesting the Golden Topaz at Swan Hill where I thought he was far from disgraced in defeat, beaten 1.6L by Yulong Storm in an excellent effort. Back home to 68 grade, only has to hold his form to be around the mark.
2 Aiguilette (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for John Macmillan since racing over 1250m on the Parks track in a strong 86 and against the race shape, I thought he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Metro Legend. That proved to be a decent form race last Saturday via Picargo. Back to 68 grade, the way he’s racing, he has to be considered one of the leading chances.
Race 4. (13:47) Happy 60Th Steve O'shea (Bm82) 1400m
8 Pontedera (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a step back up to 1400m for Michael Hickmott. He placed over this trip two back during the Warrnambool Carnival before going back to 1200m at Murray Bridge a few weeks ago and was solid after sitting near the fast speed, and probably just ran him off his legs. Back up in trip, more gentle tempo, he’s one of the hardest to beat.
2 Oh Mo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is working up to a win for Sam Burford. This gelding ran here a fortnight back at the mile and ran a credible race. He kept chipping away from off the speed but I just think 1600m is a tad beyond him at this stage, running third to Pudding. Like him back to 1400m and with home track advantage, he appeals as a key chance.
I don’t think 5 Dr Dee Dee (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can win, but for wider multiples, I can certainly entertain him. He resumed over 1200m here two weeks back where he clearly needed the run, finishing down the track behind the very much in form Jacks On Ice. He does go much better second up and up to 1400m, weight relief, he can run a much improved race at odds.
Race 5. (14:27) Bremerton Wines (Bm78) 1000m
7 The Magistrate (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win one for Sam Burford. He has been runner up his past three, the latest being two weeks ago at this track/distance where he was outside the speed and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to The Gov. Racing well without winning but confident he goes close against these.
4 Karacasu (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quality animal for David Jolly that resumes and I think he can resume with a win. He hasn’t raced since December 17 at Gawler when back off the speed and worked home strongly without threatening Picargo, who has franked that form this time in with a couple of wins. Looked sharp in a recent jumpout win and does have a good record at Murray Bridge. Hard to beat.
5 Pegasi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks like he will be enjoying life under the care of Travis Doudle. First run for the stable came here a fortnight back when leading throughout under Pannell. What I liked about the win is that he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure, fending off his rivals to score a super first up win. More depth here, clearly, but hard not to be impressed by the return.
Race 6. (15:07) Dutton's Easy To Do Bus.-Bm62 1000m
2 Sea Witness (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will take running down from near the speed. He attempted to lead throughout two weeks ago at this track/distance and gave a decent sight from on speed but just couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Starspangled Saga. The end of 1000m will test him but with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.
14 My Ruby (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win. She was several weeks between runs when racing a fortnight back at this track/distance. She was near the speed from the wide gate and seemingly going sweetly under Payne. She loomed to win the race but couldn’t quite get the job done and had to settle for a second to Starspangled Saga. Has that run under the belt, should be better off, hard to beat.
12 Prance N Dance (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has an ordinary draw to overcome but I am convinced she is racing well. Her last couple of runs have come on wet ground, genuine wet ground, and I just don’t think she likes it. Freshened up, nice trial, firmer footing, she can run a much improved race.
Race 7. (15:42) Magic Millions (Bm68) 1600m
11 Motell (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Jon O’Connor after racing last Saturday at Morphettville where he was back and wide throughout but I didn’t mind the way he found the line late in the piece behind Exalted Ruth, beaten three lengths. He gets in really well after the claim for Codi Jordan and has the potential to settle much closer in the run.
5 Headsmart (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Mark Webb and he always has to be respected when he comes to SA. This horse has won three on the bounce, the last two at Moe where each time he has been dominant. Good test here but confident he measures up.
7 France’s Boy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for the Hickmott/Riggs camp. He’s been solid in two runs back, first up seeing him run third at Bordertown before an okay effort here two weeks back behind Annihilate, beaten just over two lengths in a solid return. Like him up to the mile and the depth here isn’t overly strong.
Race 8. (16:22) Golden Grove Tavern 3Yo 1200m
7 Hope At Hand (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win and I think she strikes a very winnable race here. She stepped up to 1400m on the Parks track a few weeks ago against the older horses and found the line strongly but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Tahnee Tradition. Back to 1200m should be fine for her and back to her own age, she appeals.
1 Klabel (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is 2/2 at the track/distance and that should help his cause given he likes racing here. One of those wins came two back when dominant from the front before going to the Parks track three weeks ago and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Noble Magnate. Tricky draw, but should slide forward and prove hard to run down.
12 Our Shining Star (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a knockout chance for Team Jolly. This girl has been beaten by Bristler in both runs back from a spell, the latest being two weeks back here where she got back off the genuine tempo and while she was never a winning threat, I didn’t mind the way she finished her race off to run third. Like her up in distance and with a drag into the race, she’ll be effective.
Race 9. (17:00) Spry Civil Construction (Bm62) 1400m
1 Annihilate (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a three year old for Chris Bieg that is racing in pretty good form. Formerly with Chris Waller, he is 2/2 for the new stable, winning fresh at Bordertown but proved that was no fluke with a strong win at this track/distance two weeks ago, getting there eventually in a driving finish. This race isn’t much harder so I think he has to be given serious respect.
2 Important Product (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Peter Nolan. He has placed his past two, both over 1200m here. Latest run, he was near the speed and battled away really well but was no match for Saville, who is flying. 1400m should be fine and rates highly.
4 Lomax (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will be launching late if they overdo it on speed. He doesn’t have the best of racing patterns but does have a big finale on him. He comes back to 1400m after racing over 1800m last time here where he got a mile out of his ground but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind Silent Don. If they go hand in front, look for him late.
